Choosing To Be Homeless

i know someone who actually chose to be homeless. there purpose is to try to get social security for some kind of made up disability. she had a big two bedroom house rental with her husband. she didn't have to work, because he worked to pay all the bills. to make matters worse, he isn't even a citizen. he is working under a green card doing security work. so, you could tell he is not rich, but she married him so he could stay in this country. i guess she figured out that the guy wouldn't be able to provide the high lifestyle she wants. so, she she leaves him to come out to this state. this is so she can be homeless and claim that she can't work because of a disability. would you ever chose to be homeless just to get services from the government. i know times are rough, but geez. this has been going on for two years now.

As someone who was homeless as a young child who had no control over the actions of her mother, who was doing something similar, things like outrage me. I mean it's not only abuse of the system, but it's just crazy. Life on the streets is hard, I don't understand why anyone would choose to live that life, although I have met others who have. I've never understood people like that, and most likely never will.

i think people like that are afraid of the responsibility of maintaining a regular living standard. i am surprised they don't consider that in itself a disability.

I know people like that too, it's like the fear of growing up, and in some cases it may be considered a disability. I'm working my butt off right now, through several real health issues, to not have to borrow money from my dad, because they don't consider my conditions serious enough for disability, and usually I'd agree with them, but do to a foot injury that's refusing to heal, I can't work, and can't get help from the government. So people like that really peeve me. It reminds me of my mother's current boyfriend, who is trying to get on disability for ADHD, he can work, he's had jobs before but never keeps them because he calls in to play on World of War Craft.

i know people who are amputees that can't get their benefits the way they should. this really peeves me off, as well. then i see a blind man going to work with his see and eye dog, on the other end of the spectrum. she doesn't even consider things like that. she just knows that she is willing to marry someone from another country and leave him to be homeless, she is so lazy! you would be amazed some of the things she would do to prevent from working.

Hmm, that's an interesting scheme to 'employed' in order to get money. Anyway, I suppose people try whatever they can to eek out a living.., for any variety of reasons. Hence, what can we say, or who are we to judge anyone based on our circumstances? All I can say is best of luck.

i appreciate your response. however, i certainly can judge anyone trying to make a living for free off of the tax dollars of working citizens. this is not fair to the community an to other homeless or disabled people. i heard from this person i know who is being homeless for benefits that people come to my hometown just to be homeless, because the benefits are so good. so, she is a shameless moocher.

I had known people like that too, on one hand, she is receiving all these side rent income from her out of sight property and real estate, at the same time her's the other hand is getting government benefit through various programs that aims to help desperately poor people, obviously she know the system very well and is working the system to her own advantage. She out smart the politician alright.

Wow, that's totally unfair but I guess, people can get away with it. I would not choose to do that. But I've read of people who choose to be homeless because they want to be frugal. They want to live life plain and simple so they don't become bound to material things and society. I think that is interesting.

I would never choose to be homeless. I would do anything I could do to prevent being homeless. I don't even like having to be on unemployment. I am at a situation that in 5 months the current job I am at now will be loosing its contract so I know if I am unable to find myself another job then I will have to do what I don't want to do. I hate the idea of having to rely on the government for anything but I guess for me to make it by I will just have to claim unemployment. I will just add to the state/national unemployment rate.

I think that is very wrong. A lot of people are lazy and prefer to take the easy way in life. But life is not easy, you have to work, you have to make it the way you want it to be. There are a lot of homeless people in my country but I've never heard of a case like this when people want to be homeless.

Thats just crazy! My husband and I were homeless for a few months and I would NEVER choose to live like that!! It was the hardest time of my life! I know someone who is choosing to be homeless but for a different reason. He has no motivation for himself to save money. Hes a bad gambler and I think he will only change if he finds love. I think a good woman will change him. But thats the only thing that will get him on his feet. I would never want to be homeless again though!

I think it would be a lot easier and take a lot less effort to just get a job rather than to spend years trying to scam the system. What is wrong with people today? When will it end?
