Do you you take vitamin tablet or capsule everyday ? If it is asked many us will give positive answer. Many of us think vitamin tablet helps to maintain good health. Many of us also take anti-oxidant tablet regularly. But whether vitamin tablet is helpful for our health ? A study for a decade says that to take vitamin tablet regularly is not helpful for our health ,but instead by this the natural resistance power to protect from diseases declines.
The researchers say, though in some cases anti-oxidant protects our body from some diseases, but for long time regular use can make risk. Even this habit can invite immatured death. In 2010 a study report says, by anti-oxidant the risk of cancer in the bladder of urine increases by 50%. Regularly taking of vitamin E the risk of cancer in urethra increase by 17%. In the contrary the sale of these vitamins is increasing.

I prefer taking the vitamines that my body needs from natural sources like fruits, vegetables, salads etc. I don't take any vitamin tablets, because I don't like artificial products. Rarely, when I am sick I might take vitamine C in tablets or pills because they say that it can help in faster recovering. But generally I believe that the vitamins that we need can be covered by healthy eating and variety in food. For example, it is better to eat every fruit when it's the time of the year that it is produced. The rest of the year it is preserved with other method and probably chemicals that take away the healthy ingredients from the fruits and vegetables.

The good way is we have to eat multi-types of food in a day, so that we don't need to worry much about lacking of vitamins.
I don't think taking vitamin tablet or capsule everyday is good, somehow it is harmful back if we don't follow the doctor's guide.
However many people still buy vitamin tablet or capsule and drink it everyday, they do it themselves, no doctor's guide at all. It is really dangerous...

Vitamin tablet buyers may not read your writing.
I believe that each medication contains chemicals. Chemicals harmful to the body, especially the kidneys.
Therefore, I eat fruits and vegetables to get vitamins and minerals. @lady1993 (27221)

I don't know, but I have read an article somewhere that there is little to no risk of taking vitamin and minerals supplements regularly. The risk of toxicity due to regular usage is none. From the article too, studies show that there really is no adverse effect of taking regular vitamin supplements. Maybe for overdosing it in a day, something bad will happen. But if for just once a day, I think there is really no risk at all too.

I will appreciate it if you can give me a link or resources to check on that study. I am quite curious too of the research.

Dear Bhanusb! The vitamins are required by our body is very small amounts on regular basis. Some vitamins are synthesized by our own body and while other vitamins are prepared by our body from the precursors available in our foods. Some foods may have vitamins naturally and these are absorbed by the body for natural physiology.
Thus vitamins are supplied to the body so long we are taking a balanced diet and there is no additional supplementation required by the body. In the conditions when we get sick our body may not absorb proper amount of vitamins required by it or may get failed in synthesising these Vitamins and during this time we may require to have some additional vitamins in the form of some tablets or capsules.
This too one has to take only under the strict supervision of a qualified personnel. Consuming vitamins without the prescription, presuming that they always do better to the body is not a good thing. Hypervitaminosis is a condition where excessive vitamin gt accumulated in the body and they have some harmful effects on the body. Si in my opinion taking vitamins on regular basis is not a healthy way of maintaining our well being. Better consult a doctor and have them as per the advice by him/her.
Same thing is applicable to anti oxidants also. By popping in ready made vitamins and anti oxidants we're making our body dependant on these products which otherwise the body produces them in normal way, and the body becomes lethargic and stops manufacturing these products naturally i they are made available from outside. Thus we are making our body dependent as far as these products are concerned.
Thus instead of having ready made vitamins and anti oxidants it is always better to have them in a natural form through various food ingredients like fruits, nuts, meat , fish etc. so that we will enjoy our life healthily! Thanks for the discussion, I liked participating in it!

It is most likely that we get most of the essential vitamins and nutrients from our daily intake of balanced diet. There is little help vitamin tablets or capsules could lend in respect of health gains. But in therapeutic conditions the supplementary vitamins help considerably. There are also instances of health deterioration on account of the undue use of vitamin capsules and tablets.

I regard the vitamin is a kind of medicine. So it will have some side effects anyway. I don't understand why people prefer to take the vitamin pills to obtain the vitamin rather than getting it from the natural food. I want to eat something good for my health rather than the medicine. If it is not necessary, I never want to take medicine.
I love China

In the past when my iron levels got too low i was prescribed iron pills to take on top of the foods because eating iron rich foods alone was not enough. It took a few months for my level to get back to normal. So see people have good reasons for taking the vitamins. I try to get in enough vitamin C every day from oranges, tomato and other sources, but I take a supplement if those things aren't available at the time, because vitamin C really helps with my allergy symptoms.

I believe it's important to get the nutrients our bodies need and we rarely get enough from out diet.
I choose to take supplements because I feel better and more energetic when I do. I also feel it's important to do some research so we know what we're putting in our system.
I understand enough to know that too much iron could be a problem but I believe it's in my best interest to supplement my diet.

I really agree that every medicine has it's therapeutic level and if taken over what is allowed, it may lead to overdose and can be detrimental to someone's health. It is always a great idea to seek medical advice to doctors before taking vitamins and supplements. Doctors can evaluate you, do some laboratories, evaluate you what is lacking to you or those deficiencies that you may have that needs to be corrected. I myself, take in mega-doses of Ascorbic acid everyday and vitamin E every other day. I choose also those natural vitamins which can be taken in fruits and vegetables.
