I remember when I was young and we used to visit my GRANDMAS house all the time and yes if you remember a while back when I started the discussion on the old phones that had the long chords well yes she had one and it was the rotary dial kind you would see in an old movie he he he l.o..l. But anyway I was thinking and missing those days and God Bless her soul I miss her and my Grandpa but anyway every time me and my daughter are watching a movie every once in awhile we will run across a movie where the front door int eh house has a see through window and glass and yes Grandma had one but to me and her we said no way!! I could not have one of those old timey doors where the window you could see right in the house! These days are just not as safe as they used to be what do you think? Would you have one? Or do you? Do you feel safe?

All of the entry doors in my home have windows. I have dual front doors, with each door having a window, a side door with a window in the door, and the back door has a window. I have no problems with them at all. I enjoy rotary dial telephones as well. I used to have two, but now I just have one. The one I have is a working pay phone with a rotary dial. It's amazing how long things last that were made so long ago. Oh, my stove/oven was made in the 1950's and it's still going strong.

That is kind of cool I would love to have a rotary dial phone these days and especially a 50's oven!

We love the oven. It has has a huge cooktop and dual ovens and it works very well.

Try looking in antique stores. I always see rotary dial telephones in there. Fortunately, I have a friend who used to work in the telephone company, and he has kept me supplied in old telephones.

I agree. I wouldn't only not feel as safe but would feel watched all the time. I responded to this because I remember my grandparent's old rotary dial phone. And the party lines we had back then. And my grandparents doors(both front and back) had the window in about half of the top. I miss them alot and my mom now. My grandparents never even locked the doors until one evening someone came walking in, maneuvered around the room with my blind grandma right there and then left. She called us and we went right down. No one around but sure scared us. She locked up after that.

I like those design all walls and windows are all glass and you can see the whole thing inside the house. But I know it is not safe to that kind of house without any privacy anymore. I have a two doors here, one is screen door and the main door. At daytime my main door is open while the screen door is closed this is to protect my house from flies and mosquitoes. True this days nobody can tell the safeness of ones house. Here in my area I have many neighbors front back and side by side. I have my Odie too so if anyone who wants to go in we can easily know. Last day I forgot to lock my door they are all shut but I never locked it I'm away for a whole day luckily Odie is here and it is daytime.

Misty at the door - I took a picture of Misty sitting near the open door.
I sort of believe in fate, I think. That is, if a thief wants to come and steal, he´ll find a way no matter what. So although My door is made of wood, there´s a big glass at it´s side to let the light and sun in. I´m enclosing a picture of my fron door open and my darling Misty posing there, years ago.

Aww the dog is so cute!!! That is true if a robber wants a way in they will find one I just would not have a door with a window like the ones from the past that I have seen.

Now a days it is not at all safe to have windows with glasses because they can be eaisly broken and the thieves can eaisly enter to it. I have a solid window and doors made of hard wood. Because of it's hardness it is not able to break it eaisly as compared to glasses and i feel some more safe in my home.

I live on a main street and our front door can be seen from the street as houses in our neighborhood do not have gated fences. It's a solid door and we hardly open it. it's locked all the time and we use the side door to go in and out the house so people from the street cannot directly see.

We have a solid door too that stays locked as well with just a peep hole

I think I know what you are talking about. I think the ones where they put the lace panel curtain on it is lovely. However, you are right if you live in an average neighborhood with a side walk or even a less than savory neighborhood you don't want people seeing into your house. Plus those doors are just asking to be broken by a thief.

Well, I must say that our modern times, are less safe than those who have passed our ancestors (and I suppose that me and you have more or less the same age). At the time of my grandfather, the door swung shut with string, and at night all in bed! At the present day , the world fear most, that me and you have many security systems, but in the end we feel not equally sure at 100%, theoretically. Already a regret of the old days, you will definitely for everyone, especially those who have really experienced in the first person.
