Hi mylotters, I would like to share my shame story with you. I am now 32 years old going to 33. But i still cannot drive. I was going to driving school and learn driving halfway on 2007 end till 2008. My R.I.P dad always telling me to learn drive, becareful when drive and etc but i always give answer to my dad that i want to buy this car and that car. All in my memories. My dad gone on 2008 April. Can i know anyone here that cannot drive and at what age are you now? If you can drive what is your age you start driving?

I learned how to drive in late in my life. I so very much wish I had learned how to drive much earlier in my lifetime. Being able to drive makes my life so much easier. I began learning to drive in 2001 and the first lesson seemed way too difficult to me. I found a lovely kind driving instructor and carried on driving lessons with him in 2003 and 2004. I passed my theory test easily but I kept on failing my practical driving test. I moved to a different area in 2005. I had driving lessons in 2006 and 2007 but the driving instructor wouldn't let me go in for the test. I gave up learning but got a final chance in 2009 with an excellent driving instructor. I finally passed my practical driving test in February 2010. I love my car and am happy driving it. Good luck learning to drive.

i've already got my license last year but i'm not confident enough to drive a car. i rarely drive since the day i got my license. i'm currently staying in hostel which is near to my faculty so i do not have the need to travel by car. so it makes me feel less confident to drive.

i'm 20 years old. yeah..confidence is important. without the confidence to try, we cannot learn anything. even my brother who is 3 years younger than me can drive better than me cause he's not afraid to try.

hi there loveshop, you are not alone in that situation. although, i am not saying directly that i do not know how to drive. well, i once had a driving lesson 5 years ago. but after that, i left for a job outside the country. and was not able to use my license at all since i will drive on the other country, i need to enroll again and apply for another license which will cost me a lot. so i opt not to enroll to save time, money and effort. as i don't need a car during those time. however, the situation now is different, hence, i am thinking to enroll once again to driving school. to be honest, i am older than you are.

Good day Loveshop, I already resigned from that job. Hence, I have tried to do a career redirection but apparently, it didn't work. So I tried to dwell on doing internet jobs. And until now, I am working on it. By God's grace, I am coping up and able to received job orders via online. And still looking for more ways to earn, as I have set my target earnings within this year.

Hi ryanong, i just answer to someone else, you are true, the cost for learning and getting driving license is very high. So, if no money, very difficult to take license. And you are right, get a car and you take license, cos if you take now, and you don't have a car, most probably you will forget to drive or afraid to drive!!

My sister cannot drive and she is 49 already. She started learning how to drive when she was 28 years old and it happened that a drunk driver hit her on the back while she was practicing and she got so scared and nervous about what happened and after that, she never tried driving anymore.

Being able to drive gives one independence, but I would suggest that you learn when you are ready. Beginning drivers are quite often involved in more fatalities on the road. This includes teens. When one does decide to drive, he or she must do so defensively. I believe learning to drive is done best with a combination of a written test and driving practice with an expert. An expert will help you learn the rules of the road as well as correct operation of a vehicle. In my experience, I took driver's education in high school. I got my driver's permit after passing the written exam. The permit allows one to drive with a licensed driver only, and there are some restrictions. I was 17 at the time I received my permit. A couple of years later I got my driver's license after passing the driving test. If both requirements are satisfied, successful completion of written exam and driving test, one can get his or her license at 16. My brother got his at 16, and I got mine at 19. But know this, one is always learning while on the road. Learn to drive when you are ready. You have maturity on your side, and I think you will do well.

Just know that it is not always necessary. It is just a nice skill to learn. Take Care.

Hi loveshop. I know how to drive and i started driving when i turned 19(after passing legal age for driving which is 18 in India). I joined a driving school and they took my class for around 8-10 days. And i learned almost 60% from there. After that, i used to practice on my own(actually my dad's) car in the morning. I used to take my friend who know driving very well along with me in the morning just for precaution and some help so that he can guide me. And now,i'm 22 and i'm quite perfect in driving. One thing i wanted to add that i used to play Car racing games a lot and i believe those games helped me a lot in learning how to drive a car in real world. I'm quite a good gamer in NFS Most Wanted(Car racing game) and i used to play that game a lot. Later on when i realized that it can help me in learning driving, i purchased a Racing Wheel kit for computer to get the real feel of car. It is somewhat similar to this(different brand). http://www.walmart.com/ip/Thrustmaster-Ferrari-5-in-1-Challenge-Wheel-PC-PS2-PS3-Wii-Universal/11004208 It comes with pedal and a steering wheel and i used to play Car games actually imagining that i'm driving in real world. I used to try my best not to hit any other car, wall, object or poles on the street. So, that added to my driving experience as the cost of Petrol is quite high . I hope that sharing how i learned driving might help you in some case.

Learning anything through interactive and interesting means always help and help us to grasp better. So, I tried this interactive method and i succeeded. So, i hope if you play the racing game seriously, it will help you a lot in understanding the real world scenario. And as far as good racing games are concerned, Electronic Arts releases one of best racing games titles under the name of "Need For Speed"(in short NFS) franchise. So, grab a copy of the NFS("Most Wanted" Or "Carbon") and start practicing. And you can play along with your husband too.You both can enjoy this game as NFS Most Wanted support LAN play. So, one can play on 1 desktop/laptop and other on the other desktop/laptop. So, both of you can virtually race with each other. It's really fun. And he will enjoy playing it with you too !!

I started driving when I was 20. My advise to you is to just keep on practicing with a patient mentor, and not with a nagging one. LOL Driving is fun once you get to know how it works. But, it could get boring when you're caught in traffic. Why not try using an automatic transmission car, that you won't have to bother about changing gear. All you to do is step on the gas and brake when needed. Good luck, loveshop! Have fun!

I haven't tried driving, and never did I learned one even though we have a vehicle back when I was middle school that time, I am scared to try to drive. My younger sister, she was elementary that time when we had that vehicle. She has tried moving it backwards. though we are in the garage and they are the only two people in there. she was with my youngest sister back then. It was just backward move. the engine isn't that on that time. Of course, I'd love to learn how to drive and soon get a car or van of our own again. It's been a long time since we don't have our own vehicle...

yes, there are countries which have different sides of driving seat. I don't know why. Well, maybe people will learn to get used to it when they know how to drive safely... :) So, what side is your preferred driving seat? Have you ever tried to drive?

Hi, Even I am little scared to learn driving. Though I crossed 45 and my son is upto me to get a car and I just say an excuse saying that I don't know driving so that I am not going for it. My son is so keen in getting nice cars and he prefer to Audi, Skoda & WW etc. and he got some particular model in his mind and in a hurry to learn driving. He rides scooter and bike and (not got licence as is a minor of 15 years). My cousin taught him to handle the steering and he drives well, but cannot come out on roads as is a minor. Anyway I am scared and I don't have the confidence to drive a 4 wheeler. Even I rarely takes the scooter and if I want to go somewhere I always ask my wife to drive and I will sit behind (wow...) and just enjoy.... how's it. People used to say comments, but I don't care - ahahah

Not because I am rich, but he has a great desire for cars and such things. I was wondering he know most of the prices of the expensive cars and I used to get the motor-magazine for him (a subscription weekly) alongwith the news papers. Also he has a good knowledge about cars. It is his ambition and I hope after some year and when he is able to drive (now he is a minor and could not apply for a licence), but what to learn driving, he says. Just some hours back, one of my friends wife and his son come to my residence and she come straight from the driving classes. She is a house wife (my sons's friend's mom) and she is learning. They took a new car about 2 months back and she now learning. So, why I said it - you don't get panic and I encourage you that you can learn driving and once you are on the right track, you will easily manage to do driving. I a scared and nothing else. I have the confidence that you can learn so easily and hope you will drive properly in few months time. Best of luck. Thank-s

Hi Loveshop, actually I dont drive very well yet but I really want to drive and get my driving license. My dad always encourages me to drive but it seems my mom always worry me whenever I start to drive, so its been months since the last time I drive. My dad stopped driving after he got an accident, not serious accident but he feels traumatic and doesnt want to drive anymore. We hire a part time driver but my dad thinks it will be better if his kids learn how to drive, well there is only me and my younger brothers at home so i have no other choice but to learn it. You know i feel guilty, I told my dad "dad, i will learn how to drive but if you bought me a new car" and then he did it, he bought a brand new car but still i cannot drive perfectly yet. I would like to learn again, but I guess when my mom is not at home. Actually I prefer riding motor bike, the fuel is cost less than a car and then we can avoid traffic jam, but during rainy day I really wish i can bring a car lol. I think if you want to learn how to drive, dont be afraid and be confident, you ever learnt it before, and also the memory of your dad can help you to be optimist and to be a good driver. Im sure he will be smiling from heaven to see you drive a car.

hi again loveshop, Im not from a rich family but Im grateful that my dad able to provide us the best he can do. I've wrote it in your other discussion about my family economic condition in the past time when my father had to sell everything he has, we moved to smaller house I had to share bed room with my sister, but now everything is getting better, I have my own room again. Probably my father bought me a new car because he wants me to be comfortable when driving and not worrying the machine will broken down. Yes I agree with you riding a motor bike is fun and not cost us a lot, Im a student who doesnt have a part time job so i cant spend too much money on fuel. I only need 1 littre of fuel from my home to my university, but if I use car I need to spend more than 10 littre. Well, I hope you can overcome your fear and able to learn manual type of car.

I learnt it while I was only 9and a half, and did it on my own just watching my father drive. I always watched him carefully how he shifted gears or waived his hand to turn to a side because there were no indicators those days.

Hello there, I have got my driving licence more than 10 years, but am still not a good driver. Frankly, I hardly drive as I cannot drive on the fast lane. I just get nervous and lost among the lanes. Therefore, I only drive very slow when no one will be available to take me somewhere. Apart from this, it took me a long time to learn driving, which costed me a fortune. I know driving when I was 33 years old. However, I am lucky as I have friends who will take me everywhere. :-)

A lot of adults do can't drive. Its nothing to be ashamed about. I'm 35 and have failed the tests more than once because I always get too scared. I hate cars and do not want to drive. Unfortunately I'm also forced to live with my family due to circumstances and this place is not for pedestrians. If only I lived down town things would be slightly easier.

I', 27 and turning 28 very soon. I'm a Mechanical Engineer by profession, without a car and still don't know how to drive. Sometimes, I find that a little bit shameful on my part. One day, my friend taught me to drive in a cemetery and I was just trying to learn low gear and all that. It was just for a few hours but I was actually scared. Then there was a point where I almost had his car hit a tree and that's when I said I've had enough. That was years ago. Now, I still don't know how to drive. As for you, it's never too late to learn how to drive. I think it just takes a few weeks or so before you can actually drive on your own, so there's no shame if you still can't drive.

Well, even in Italy (my country) the age that I can get my license, so driving is 18 years, I was able to enroll in driving school only two years late, or at 20. This was because I had to put away money for the license. I, however, the year when I received my driver's license was 1995. At first I was very excited, but today, some for the price of gasoline is too high, a little to the parking problem, I prefer to move by public transport such as bus or subway, and sometimes by train.

It is true, the parking is very expensive, traffic is everywhere, and gasoline or petrol is very high. But to travel via public transport is very tiring, waiting for the train comuter is taking 30 minutes, sometimes the train delay, can go for 1 hour waiting, train broke down, i have this experience when i was in my country, LRT or MRT ( fast train) is damn crowd of people cos it is faster than train comuter. But you have to suffer smelling people sweat :(

One day my neighbour saw i bike like racing cos i late to work, and he complaint to my mum. though i learnt driving but later moved overseas and lacked practice and slowly gradually with time lacked the confidence as well.I could not spare much time overseas to get a car licence and turned habitual to public transport.I am 30 now but realized that its utmost important thing else miss many growth opportunities in life and a lot of time wastage with public transport as many a times one has to wait.So thinking its never too late,i should learn it as soon as possible.
