I love you and you. And I also love you, you, and you....

Why do I love everybody? Because from 10pm Tuesday night to 9PM Wednesday night my electicity was out. Now I've had my power out before longer than that, but not when it was so blasted hot! Add to that my back was so bad I can't even describe it. For some reason the car accident injury decided to come by me in the rear. To those of you who remmeber all my surgeries, you know, I don't have to tell you, how painful it is. I spent time outside, I went to my parents, and I ran errands. But then my parents had a church service at their house last night, and I had gotten a migraine, so I had to stay in my apartment. I finally got in my car and started driving around, the air conditioner on full blast. I didn't care about wasting gasoline. It was just too hot. Tuesday night we had a powerful storm with 70mph wind, and they said it got to 80mph in some places. The next day bushes had been uprooted, and part of trees were scattered over the property. Usually, I'm not so impatient, but the heat totally got to me. I kept praying, Lord please turn the electricity back on, and if you won't just do that automatically, make the OG&E guys SUPER FAST! We had 80,000 without power, and I have a feeling my apartment complex was about the last one to get the power back. Do you guys have trouble keeping patient when you are physically uncomfortable? When was the last time your power went out? I had a small flashlight, and one candle, so I was okay the first night when I was plunged into darkness. I'm going to get a few more candles so next time I'll be able to see even better.

hi dear Ambie, we never had a power shortage so far at least no longer than a few minutes. When reading about them such as you just experienced, I always ask myself whats then happening to fridge and freezer contents.... we have lots of stuff in the freezer right now so it would create havoc if power was out and stuff gets to thaw and consequently rot. But I know pain problems. My back gives me hell sometimes too as I have a herniated disc. We have good medical chairs at the office but sometimes I really think cant that work day end sooner as I want to get home and get to bed.....so then I am impatient too.

Most of the food was okay, but I didn't have too much because of the end month and everything. However, I did have one piece of fish in the freezer. And that was totally spoiled. The smell is still not gone, even after I cleaned it. How much are ergonomic chairs in Germany? Is that how you spell it? Do you know what I am talking about? I had for you to sit in a chair that many hours a day and not be in the best position you could be.

hubby says to use vinegar to get rid of the fish smell. You poor one having additional work cause thst power outage. I dont even know how much these nice office chairs are, there are even newer ones than mine but I didnt want one as I find it uncomfortable to sit in them, have tried 2008 after I got back to work from rehab for the disc. Instantly said no thanks want to keep my old chair and hope it works for 10 more years till I hope to retire. LOL

We always have flashlights and candles because living in the country, when the lights go out at night, the darkness is very thick and sometimes it takes a while for the electric company to fix it. We always loss electricity at least 1-2 times a year due to high winds and storms, but the most it has been was only a few hours, with the exemption when we got hit by the remnants of Hurricane Ike, that was 4 days...:O Since we do have flashlights and candles, plus the fact that we like camping, so we have the equipment to do most anything without electric, it was kind of fun. . .At first..At least when we go camping, we can hike up to the showers, but after depleting the hot water from our water heater, we only got cold water and in Sept. though the weather was nice, it was not hot and taking a cold shower was not something I'd want to do. So, we heated up water for sponge baths, but my daughter and I have somewhat long hair, can't really sponge bath that. Fortunately before our hair got too gritty, it rained. Why was that good? Because we like camping, we had camping soap, good for a variety of cleaning, from dishes to body soap to shampoo. It was gentle and biodegradable and rinses out in cold water. So we go outside and stood under the gutter where a huge stream of water was coming down and we washed our hair..I know it sounds crazy, but hey, the temp outside was just warm enough that the rain felt good and we needed our hair washed..lol

That doesn't sound weird to me. My dad and his family used to have to haul well water to the tub to take a bath. So if the rain was pouring down, they'd go outside to wash. You wanna hear something funny? They'd put the well water in the tub, then starting with the girls, they'd get the bath first. The boys were last. Then his mom used it as mop water. One night my dad came in from working in the fields and saw the tub in the kitchen, still filled with water. Filhty dirty he got in the tub and soaped up. The next morning my grandma asked him why there were towels hanging up. He said he used them for his bath. His mom said, "But son, I had already used it for mop water!" Ew! He took a bath in water she'd already used to mop!

I do not remember the last time we had power out for more than an hour or so, which was last week or two weeks ago. It was not too hot, and I have trees around my property so the house is shaded. I think another thing you could have done was maybe sit in a tub of cool water, but you know, when you have pain it is hard to think of anything except that pain. I find that I will be gritting my teeth and it will be because of some kind of minor pain, so I am not sure I can imagine how awful yours was. I guess it would not do any good to suggest you go to the library or a store that was cool, cause they probably would have had their power off as well. I am glad you had the presence of mind to go drive in your cool car for a while.

I did take a cold shower, but I couldn't actually sit in the tub because my back hurt too much to bend over and sit down. Getting out of bed in the morning, physically, is the most painful thing besides having to bend over.

Girl! I'm so sorry I am coming late to this post! I'm glad you are safe! Suggestion, get big flashlights . They are better than candles. I hope you are feeling better. To answer your question, I think it was last year sometime we lost power for a few hours. But the one time I will always remember is Hurricane Irene. We lost our power for about a week. It was in September so it wasn't too hot.But I remember how dark the night was. And how hard it was to past the time without t.v. back then I wasn't online! So I'm just glad you got your lights sooner than a week! And I hope you are feeling better.

I'm SO happy to hear you have your electricity back! I can't remember if this was the same day that I was watching the Weather Channel and was watching a live shot of somewhere in Oklahoma, a HUGE counter-clockwise rotating cloud (they said it was at least a mile wide) trying to become a tornado. That was also the same day/night that we had severe storms roll through here, too, which is why I was glued to the Weather Channel. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning for hours and I was worried that we'd have a tornado warning here, too. Every time I see something live about Oklahoma's weather, I worry about you. I'm very happy to hear that you made it through your day without electricity. I know how miserable it can be, especially when you aren't feeling well. I've been through four days without electricity before so I know. Like you said you're going to do, I went out and bought more candles once we got our electricity back. I also placed one emergency candle in every room, along with a pack of matches. Who knows which room you'll be in when the power goes out, especially if it goes out at night? That's why I wanted to be prepared and not have to stumble around in the dark to find the candles and matches. I'm glad you're feeling better. This weather can wreak havoc on our poor bodies. My hips have been talking to me through the 3 or 4 rainy days we've had recently so I can imagine how you must've been feeling. In times like this, can you go to your parents' house and just lie down in a quiet bedroom? Or, is it too noisy in their house when they have a church service? I know I'd feel a lot better to hear that you were with your parents when you have a migraine since they get so bad, plus there were others there who could help with your mother if you had to go to the hospital.

The night the electicity went out there was a rotation wrapped in rain, so that may be the one you're talking about. Before the lights went out I called my dad and said the tornado weather was passed us. But the storms were still here. I couldn't sleep at my parents because guess what? They invited a young man to live with them this summer! lol Well, my dad invited him. He's the son of one of my dad's best friend. He's trying to help him save money to he can get his own place in the fall. So there was no place for me.

Aww. Well, at least the young man is getting help. That's so nice of your father. What an awesome man he is. I wish more people were like him. Maybe this young man can help your father from time to time with your mother, too.

I absolutely hate not having electricity there is problems in this house with the electricity and we never know when it is about to go out. The longest I waited was 17 and a half hours for the electricity to come back on and I was bored out of my mind.

I do get impatient......after I sit around and read my magazines by candle light...or do everything I can to entertain myself without electricty...then I start getting impatient for the power to come back on....luckily I have a bunch of candles available for when that happens..it's been about six months since I have lost mine for any length of time...and that was because of a fire.. Lightening hit a house not so far from here and burned it down....the fire followed the wires and so we all lost our power.....I can stamp during those times though! LOL...

I am never really patient during power outages/interruption. But one power interruption I had I wished was longer. It was night time and my partner and I was preparing to go to sleep. We weren't really sleepy but thought that since there was nothing good on television, we'd just talk until we fall asleep. Before we could settle in the bed, the power was out. So he suggested that since it wasn't so hot (thank goodness) we'd just light a few candles. Then he started flipping songs on his iPhone and attached it to our battery-operated speaker (Altec Lansing) and then music filled the room. After flipping several songs and playing them, he suddenly said "let's dance". We were on our Pjs and we danced inside the room, lights out with candles around. It was the most romantic power interruption of my life! after a while, the power went back and I was hoping that it would have been a little bit longer. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Oh that is awful! Your power was out for such a long time, and I'd probably go crazy! I feel so bad for you. That was some storm and I would have been pretty scared too. I'm not a very patient person when it comes to feeling ill, or being physically uncomfortable. I remember when I hurt my thigh and hip muscles and had to lay around for almost one month because the pain was so unbearable. Talk about being crabby! That was just horrible and I hated every minute of it but had no choice. As soon as I would stand up the pain shot through my legs within 30 seconds...just miserable. And I don't like to be waited on either. I'm glad you're safe and sound and hope you don't go through this again.

I did have that experience. It feels so annoying and frustrating to have black outs for a long period of time. The weather is hot and I hate sweating a lot. Plus, its dark and I can't do the things that I have to do due to inconvenience. I just sleep and try to forget it.

The last time we got brown out was last Sunday but it only last for five hours and it is daytime. But I still remember last year when we are in flood all electricity was totally block. I have my candles, flashlights and matches. To keep from impatiently wait I work some things to make me busy. I clean my house when it is brown out. So after I finish it the lights will have on.
