Yesterday after visiting his surgeon, my son and i went to a bookstore. I found some R.L. Stine books and told him to go over it if he would be interested since it was one of my favorites when i was in grade school. He did as i told him and he said it's too scary he couldn't read it, but he didn't want to let go of the book and in fact he took another one by the same author and asked me to pay for them. So we ended up buying two R.L. Stine's and a Jughead Double Digest comic book. Night time came, he asked me to read The Nightmare Room by R.L. Stine. All the time that i was reading it he was under the blanket covering himself and would just take a peek at what i'm reading once in awhile. It scared the wits out of him but he didn't want me to stop!

oh my goodness!! thattakes me back to being a kid! I LOVED the R.L Stine books so much! Goosebumps was brilliant for when I was younger, and then the other books for as you got older. Fantastic. Completely loved them lol! Awww was he scared? lol I usually scared myself reading them too but they were good! Some of the books were made into little mini tv programmes too when I was a kid! :)

Oh yeah saw the mini programs on tv too when i was in high school lol! Really love R.L. Stine. Last night i slept earlier than usual and my son went into the room and tried to wake me up but dad told him i was too tired so he shouldn't. He started crying and he cried himself to sleep because i couldn't read him a book. He was so looking forward to chapter 4!

Oh hell yeah! I remember him he is the goosebumps and Are you afraid of the dark guy:) Wow I used to watch that all the time when I was a child. I have to admit I have never been much of a reader as a child or adult, but out of the very few books I have read some of his were among them.. in fact I still have one of them.

When I was younger I was in love with RL stines books!!! I can remembered doing the same thing by crawling under the covers with a flashlight and reading the books. I now watch goosebumps on one of the kids channels on cable and it brings back how much I loved reading his books!!!

Yeah it's funny how something can trigger a hidden memory like that and give you an urge from the past. I admit that I was never a avid reader but i did enjoy those books and i loved the TV shows!

I am not sure I have read any of these books, since this is not the type of Books I like to read, but if your Son is not wanting you to stop reading to him, then at least he is enjoying the story even if he is acting scared. Plus this gives you time to read to your son while spending some time with him.

I love spending time with my son, especially bed time. I like reading him bed time stories or we both read each other's books. We stopped at chapter 12, he's too scared to continue but i know that he will find that courage to go on soon.

I remember R.L Stines books. I used to love them. Most of all I loved the collections of short stories that he has written. One of them is called "The haunting hour", but I forgot the name of the other book. I have also read some of the Goosebumps books and I enjoyed them as well. Your description fo your son's reaction when you read the stories aloud to him reminds of myself when I was a child. My father used to read horror stories aloud to me. Some of them really scared me, but I still wanted him to read the stories. Afterwards I couldn't fall asleep because I kept thinking about the scary stories

What an exciting moment for your little one! My children enjoyed R.L. Stine as well, both reading his books as well as the television shows / videos. I would have thought that they would have been frightened, but for the most part it didn't seem to bother them at all. So, did your son make it through the night without nightmares?

Oh no nightmares for him! My son is a really scary boy. Even if i'm the one reading he gets this vivid imagination and really think it's that scary when i haven't gone that far yet with the story.

That is so funny It is like my younger niece who watch horror anime. He is so afraid and he would cover his eyes with his hands. I said to him that the anime I watch is not for kids, but still he wants to watch it

I have never heard of that story before. I have heard of JugHead though. I used to buy the JugHead comics all the time as a kid. I think those nightmare books look pretty cool, I just looked them up. End even though your son was scared, the fact that he did not want you to stop reading is a good sign. I think he will out grow the fear of stories like this.

Well we stopped at chapter 12 and he didn't want to go on. He's too scared to continue with the story. So now he's just reading his Jughead comic book and we bought two more Archie's.

Well, those books do sound interesting. I was a big fan of JugHead and Archie. And of the SadSack comics as well.

Although I don't know about the books you're telling us, I find nice that you read those stories to your son. It is a nice way to share moments in life and you're improving his interest for reading books. Have a nice day.

My son is really into books. He took interest in reading books when he learned how to read and that made me happy.
