So you are upset with this user and you want to use the most abusive language ever. But suddenly you stop because that would mean a guidelines violation. Even if you see red you have to cool down and then count ten. If you can do it here then why not in the real world. Why do you not count ten there and cool down. Wish myLot was there every moment in our real life too to tell us that losing one's cool is a guidelines violation a violation that will vitiate the environment. Do you need myLot around you in your real life too?

NOPE...nada..nein! I had the greatest mentor in the world..my Father, whom NEVER retaliated...NEVER lost his cool, No matter what! And I know, as a rapscallion as a child...I tried him to the utmost! When I was mature enough to realize the moderation of his temperment, I asked him...HOW he always remained calm! His concise answer; "I get mad..I give away my power!" I put this philosophy into play...and it has stood me well, all my life! And, boy, I put him to the test..

How are you doing, my dear, I missed you! I really like your father's philosophy, Perga, and it is wonderful that he could implement it so well! I do not think that getting angry necessarily means giving up my power, although in certain situations or circumstances I definitely have to agree with this, because there are people that will anger you on purpose if they know that they can, so allowing them to do so is definitely giving up your power to them.

@ perga.. May be myLot guidelines were guided by your father! If I can control my temptation to be rude here I see no reason why I cannot do it in real life. But honestly I feel I am getting a practice here to behave!

@My dear PA...missed you, too! Desperately needed a sabbatical from the REAL world...maybe because of all my suppressed anger...LOL! Possibly it is so ingrained in me...but I really do feel I lose my power now...if you can make me angry! I so delight in catching flies with honey! P.S. Lot's of the hiatus spent under the grape vines...watching them grow another PARTY!!! Yahoo! @allknowing..In reality, as I know you as a cyber friend, I don't find you rude..I find that you: "calls them, as you see them!" And I just bet, when you lean a trifle to the caustic side...you have a twinkle in your eye...just a spark of; "I got you!"

Oh no, I hope it wasn't me???? I know the reason why we can't do this in real life and why for some, an online relationship can't work in real life. This is because online we don't see each others facial expressions, body language that tells another exactly how we feel, and we don't have to reply back right away. In real life, not only do we see the eye rolling or hear the frustrated sigh, but we also get the "full impact" of emotions when we are talking to another, that can cause his or her friend's emotions to override their logic, and thus you will have a fight, whether a minor one or a major one. Now I have heard where couples met online, got married, and had a wonderful life. That may work for some, but I know it won't work for me. I was in a debate where I mention something I believe, (it was something I could have left out, but didn't, so I regretted bringing it up) and next thing I know, I am trying to let this person know why I stand and won't support something. I tensed whenever I saw a reply back, but I made sure I had info and took a deep breath. In real life, that isn't as easy..

I was just looking at the number of responses and comments I have posted here and out of those atleast 10% have been properly weighed before posting lest they should be termed as flaming!. This thing about seeing the eyes rolling and what have you can it not be imagined carmel.. Even as I am typing this I have a smile on my face. Why should I frown or look angry. Similarly a rude response will definitely be typed with a face showing some kind of resentment and that can be easily imagined. Why else would a flaming be considered so here. One does not need expressions but a determined effort to move on. I am also as guilty as many here who have not had myLot guidlines around to take care of violations in real life.

LOL! If I commit too many Guideline violations offline, then will they cancel my account as well?! I actually think it would be a good idea if we could hit the "pause" button in our offline existence, which would give us a minute or two to think over the situation, cool down and react in a more appropriate manner. I do try to think of the example that I am setting and react accordingly, but I do not always manage to do it properly the first time. I guess that with all things practice makes perfect.

That's right. In my parlance it is called 'to count up to ten'. No other way purple. mylot does not delete you forthwith but waits for you to go on with flaming and so I believe in the real world the same rules apply?! Yes. Practice makes perfect and what better place than here in myLot where we have ample opportunity!

I think that there are some people right here who obviously are looking for some kind of reaction. The number one rule of the Internet is not to feed the trolls but there are people who are good at pushing the right buttons. There are times where I want to post something on here that is really blistering someone for something that is said. And there have been times where I think that I have taken a couple of people to task, but really, the original posts were much worse. I think that is is best to dial back the anger a few notches. Let the person know that are being an utter numbskull without utterly going right over the top with it. That is something that people need to understand while online. Sometimes all of us write something that we may regret, it is just a matter of catching ourselves before we press the post response button.

Ignoring is sometimes worse than being verbose. So let those that are 'fist ready' keep those fists for themselves. This mantra should work really but sometimes calling a spade a spade does give one peace but not here though. No flaming!

Keeping my temper in check:) I am one of the many persons who have very little patience. But I've been really working hard to manage my bursting out. In irritable situations, I'm telling myself not to react, to keep silent. And it works because lately, I can control my temper. And we don't need myLot to remind us of violation to the rules. Think of yourself. Choose to be happy. Keeping our temper in "good shape" is a choice.

I do not know if you have had reasons to lose your patience here but the rule to keep one's temper in check here which has been thrust upon us will help us in real life! I feel good when I call a spade a spade but alas we are not allowed to do it here!

Although it's easier said than done, I still applaud for the act of keeping our temper in check whenever you are understand very upsetting circumstances. The reason for advocating for that is very simple since losing control of temper will not solve any problem . In stead, it complicates issues to some extent . A better way of ventilating is to calm down and have a peaceful talk with the other part. Sometimes discuss this at a later time is an even better choice as it give both of the sides time to think .

How right you are ! This Is why it is normally said that one ought not to talk in anger, when you are angry count one to ten ,take deep breaths , write down all your emotions and thoughts on a paper etc. etc., In my lot, there is the advantage of a bit of time where we have to type out our responses. Unfortunately, in real life, some tongues would run away on provocation. I am a person whose tongue runs too slowly for my own peace and wish I am quicker in giving offensive remarks when provoked. I hesitate but I lose my peace.

Obviously not allknowing! I am not too quick in that. If I express , then it is better. But generally I don't like it and so I try to avoid situations rather than taking offensive people head on.

Why do you say that you lose your peace when you hesitate. Does it mean you hesitate but express all the same?

But sometimes it becomes inevitable that we do say something but may be the way it is said could diffuse the situation. I can visualise you as I know of someone in my circle who does that.

You are the chosen one dawnald as not many would have the kind of disposition you have. If bottling up has not had any adverse effect on you all is well. May your trible increase!

Say it again jaiho. Why in myLot but not in our real life? But with constant practice here it will one day have a positive effect in our real life too. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

hi there allknowing, i do always check my temper, since, many people told me that if a person always upset, he/she is prone to look older. hence, a person will look older rather than his/her real age. that is why i always prevent to get angry easily since i am already old so i don't want to look old. as i would like to retain a younger looking and a young at heart.

That indeed is a fantastic discovery! Mum is the word from me from now on here or in the real world. I certainly would not want to look old. Spread this message airasheila and there will be peace on earth. Not even Jesus Christ succeeded in getting peace here!

Rarely do I lose my temper. Only when I am oppressed or really really tired. But yeah, if we have a mylot as a referee in our everyday lives, the world would have been so much calmer. It is good that mylot is a clean environment unlike other sites I see where users bash each other with hurtful words. I would never have lasted here if people are allowed to be rude

We don't see much of it here these days but I have seen it girl- earlier in my days here. But fortunately I have not participated in such discussions. When I find a user who precipitates 'flaming' I just walk away. That is the benefit we have here unlike in the real world we cannot just get rid of them

I have come across one discussion here in mylot where the author and one mylot user do not agree on something. They fight through the discussion and it is very frightening to join the discussion because you might get entangled.

you are absolutely right! people react before they even think and, here, I thought were ADULTS!---before losing your cool out in the real world maybe we should think about the consequences of our actions!

The number of times that we get to react in a bad way here and yet we keep that in check is an exercise that will go a long way in helping us in our real life, hopefully!
