I am starting to lose it

It is getting more difficult for me to do things, my memory is starting to go on me, but writing is also becoming an issue. I am making mistakes in writing. I am making a mistake all over. I needed to write my last two cheques for the July and August rent where I am now, and I tore up six cheques because I made mistakes when I filled them out. That is getting bad.

It is a shame that your memory is having problems. You need to take your time doing things and feel happy. You must not blame yourself when a mistake happens. I think writing notes might help your memory. When writing a cheque try writing a practice copy first. Then you can copy the information to the real cheque. Good luck.

it is on the real copy I make the mistake, I know how to write a cheque, I could make a perfect copy which I wouldn't because it wastes the cheques but when I go to make the right one I make a foolish mistake. It can't be helped. I hand to tear up cheques every single time I make cheques now in the last couple of years.

Maybe you could try to give a rest somewhere which will help you to deal better with things. Or you just have many problems on your head and just can't concentrate on anything. I don't know if are old but if you are than maybe this is then. How old we get more we forget. So try to relax like going to a holiday which might help.

Hello winterose. Boy life sure can hand one lemons can't it. I am having difficulty with remembering words and names. It took me three days to remember the word tempura for Japanese deep frying. I wanted a recipe for it but couldn't look it up because I couldn't remember the right word. I keep telling my kids to read my mind and not to pay attention to what comes out of my mouth because it isn't always what I mean. I sometimes say one thing while thinking something else My son tells me it's because I'm older than dinosaur duku or poo. It really is aggravating when it happens. So far it hasn't affect my check writing. Hang in there and remember that getting old isn't for cowards.

Not so much a joke as a light hearted observation in an attempt to make you smile...or maybe even chuckle.

I have a problem writing checks, too, but my problem is hands that shake. You need to talk to your doctor about y our memory problems.

Maybe you need to slow down. Rambling thoughts can be a problem. Could your son help you with it? I am so sorry you are having this problem. If I was close I could help you. You need to try to calm down. I know getting upset, then stressed is hard to back away from. Slow and deep breaths to begin with and try to think before you take your next step.

I am not upset just stressed, I like to have things run smoothly which they are not they will be all worked out for sure, but when I go to the bank I want them to give me the info I ask for not the run around. As far as the cheques my son never wrote a cheque in his life, I know how to make them I just make stupid mistakes which I catch right away. For example I needed to write a cheque for July and one for August so what do I do, I write them both for July. Stupid things like that. I don't like to send a cheque with my initials for a correction, I tear the cheque up and write another one. Another mistake on one of them was that I wrote my rent 630 but I wrote it like this 630:00 and not 630.00 so I tore it up and wrote another one.

I think you are taking these mistakes too seriously. I put my initials on them occasionally because I have made a small mistakes. Which yours are. I would just use a black pen, and darken where you make a mistake. These are not big mistakes. You are losing it for nothing I think. Calm down, don't stress and try to think before you act. Take it slow. You can do it. You are in major stress. I have been there and I know it is hard but you can back your way right on out. Just slow down, breath deep and think before you make your moves. Take it easy!

There are ways of improving your memory. Cashews, cashew butter, beets and avocado are some of the foods that are said to boost your memory. Exercise can also help. There are also various mind exercises that you can do. Stress can be extremely detrimental to your memory and your mental and physical health. Try finding ways to relax--soothing music, meditation, yoga. You should also see your doctor to assess the situation.

I know I am a psychologist by training, I am just starting to get old, a fact of life

Having had that training, you know how important it is to get checked to see if there are underlying physical problems that are causing your memory issues. I agree with Stowyk that you need to get a check-up from your doctor.

You should take more rest and eat more full vitamins food. Don't get mad because of it...It could happen to all of us, not only you. Writing down is very good to memorize it also. You should keep that habit...

I know what that is like. There are tomes when I can't even recall what year it is. I have 'forgotten' how to write a check when at Target a couple of times. Kim had to. Write my checks for me. My psychiatrist says it is due to depression and oxygen loss. My forgetting how to write started about the same time when I forgot how to talk. Now I have stammering most of the time but there are times when I forget how to talk. It's conversion. Yours could be too. I need to write articles but I can't seem to make myself do it. I know how, but the passion is gone. It's not my life anymore. It's not desirable or fun for me any time. You know that when we ghosted together we could write up to 10 a day. We did when we worked for EW. Getting older and deepening depression and stress can totally turn your life around in a bad way.

with me it is not coversion I don't have a conversion disorder, it is stress coupled with the fact that I don't write anymore, I do everything on the computer. I caught all my stupid mistakes made new cheques. I don't like sending a cheque where I initialed because I made a mistake so I just send fresh cheques.

I didnt know I had conversion until I was diagnosed in the hospital. Even my regular doctor throughout I was having a TIA. turned out it was just conversion. It's awful to lose functioning of the mind and body. hope you feel better soon. I don't even write checks anymore because I have to constantly think how to do it.

First don't get too pessimistic ( from what i think you are from your post ). Secondly there is nothing wrong in memory failing us. Even for most people, memory failing us is a norm just that they don't occur regularly. Lastly, if you want to try, you can always get to improve your memory by using it more often or playing games that requires it. I heard that playing mahjong can juice up your brain greatly

first of all I am talking about life my life and what is happening, you have no idea about memory failure you are 20 years old, wait till you are a grandmother and you will understand what it does I am taking about it is happening to me now it is neither pessimistic or optimistic it is a fact of life. you don't have to tell me what to do I am a psychologist, my mind is very active but it is also starting to fail which as you say is normal. Nevertheless when you find you come to the stage that you cannot do what you used to do it is a big change in your life, I am just starting now it has been going on for a few years but the signs are there. As a psychologist I know the signs and I report them.

I am sorry to hear that. Take your time writing the check and possibly write down on another piece of paper everything you need to write in the fields. Try not to get too frustrated or shaken up, it only makes it worse. Maybe, as others suggested, ask your son to help you for awhile until you can get through this. I think once you've moved and gotten settled and adjusted you'll be better.

I am starting to conclude that age has something to do with our mental health. In my observation, most of the people I know who are getting older have the tendency to be forgetful. That may be true to most people, including the rose in the winter. I do pray and hope for some miracles upon you as you face these realities in life. I know that you can still read this message and hope that those you love will be a great encouragement and help to you. God is still good - all the time.
