We should be able to text 911 !!

Sometimes, it is litteraly impossible to call 911. Not because we can't reach a phone, but it is due to the situation in which we find ourselves, and that pushes us not to use the phone, even if we have it.In fact, Let's immagine that we are hiding from a killer, how would we contact 911 then ? We should be able to text them people !! What do you think about that ?

You make a good argument for the texting of the 911, OYouness. I know on the few occasions when I was being chased by an axe murderer, as I hid in in the tree as I watched the her looking for me below, I wished that I could communicate silently with the 911. Alas, I could not, and I nearly lost my head over it. Welcome to the myLot.

Haha. So you agree with me. We should really be able to text 911. Unless you want to lose your head again .. Anyway, it sounds a good idea to me. Thanks for the response PageTurner and happy Mylotting.

Actually, it does sound like a good idea, OYouness, and exactly for the reasons you state.

I think he did more than that. He was the killer himself and he noticed that his victim was trying to text 911 from a tree. So, he took his head of as punishement and came to this discussion in order to share his experience with us; and here he is! Have a nice day stowyk.

I totally agree with you, and the police should consider that. I bet if we are able to text 911 many life would be safe if the situation of the person is bad and are hiding from a killer like you mention. I hope the police really consider this and us people can do something about it like start a big petition or a group of members who want this to happen world-wide.

However, I do think we should draw the line at driving and texting to the 911 at the same time, even if we are being chased by a truckload of axe murderes from whom we've barely escaped and we have a gag in our mouth secured with duct tape that is rigged to a bomb if we touch it, and are scrunched down in the seat trying to make it look like a ghost is driving the car so that we are driving with our knees but our hands are free to text. In this case, we should not text because texting and driving is just murder on our roads.

We have to do something to make this idea heared by the police as you said, and I don't think that it would be rejected since it aims at the safety of citizens in some particular bad situations. That is what 911 is made for.

I do really appreciate your responses PageTurner: You have your own way of expression, and I really like your imagination and sense of humour. You should be a director of a film or something. Why are you wasting your time on Mylot ?

I think that's a good idea since texting could prevent from the killer to know that you're contacting 911. You're right. There were some situations that its hard to use the phone probably might put you to harm instead asking for help. Aside from the precaution it would be easier to contact 911 when you witness a crime. it would be helpful to lower crime rates. i really do love the idea of reporting to 911 thru text. :)

We should work hand in hand in order to make this small idea true. Because it may save many lives in the future and help the police to achieve their role that is to protect citizens from any kind of danger. It won't take that much, I guess it is easy to be established.

I have thought about this many times. You are right. In a lot of situations of needing to call 911 it is hard because you are in a tough situation where the person who is trying to hurt you has you under constant observation to make sure you're not trying to run away or turn on them. If you were able to text 911, you'd be able to give them your address and that you need immediate help. It's almost genius!

Yeah, that is the idea, and since we have created 911 in order to avoid or, at least, to go out from crimes and law's violation with less dammages, we should take in consideration different situations, so, different ways to contact 911. Among these latters, the fact of texting them seems like a useful one.

I agree with you. The Emergency Services are there for a reason - all extreme emergencies, but by not accepting texts they are essentially denying help to some people who need it. Alot of crimes could be stopped BEFORE they happened (rape, murder) if the Emergency Services accepted texting.

That's the idea: We should allow texting because it would help a lot of people as it would help Emergency Services themselves to fulfill their job, which is to protect citizens whatever the situation is.

I have thought about this before. Because you are right. There are certain situation where you just can not talk. I have thought about this so many times before. Not sure how it would work though.

I totally get where you are going with this. But if we could text 911, I truely think that there would definately be a massive amount of false 911 calls. Mostly because people accidently call and text people all the time, and little kids often play with their parents or elders phones. And that alone may cause a mass amount of false 911 calls, tieing up the phone lines for any true emergencies. Instead, I think that people should leave their text tones on vibrate, just in case they have to text somebody in an emergency. Then that person can call 911 for them. That might work out a lot better.
