Do you keep or give old Clothes?

old clothes - old enough to wear
Philippines

Hello Lotters, I remember once in the past, when ever we have poor relatives in the provinces visit us, my mom would give the old clothes to them. because they don't fit to me any-more, some are actually torn already. beyond your years. unfortunately, i don't buy that much clothes anymore so i can't give any more haha. i think some were donated to the typhoon victims, but i don't remember.. Have you kept old clothes, give it away, or throw them off??

I have lost a lot of weight over the past year or so, and this has meant that I have a lot of clothes that no longer fit me because they're so big. I like to give them to charity, because this means that other people can benefit from the things that I have bought in the past. I love to do this as I hate wasting things, and if I threw the clothes away that would mean that nobody would get anything from it and that would upset me a little bit. We have a charity shop in our village and I tend to take things there because it is local charity which will be of benefit to the community that I live in, and to the people who I live near.

Hello GemmaR, I wish i can loose weight myself so that i can give some of my clothes that are obviously too big one for me. that is really cool for something of a good samaritan here. it's nice that poor people gets to have free clothes since they can't afford them, keep doing a great job. well, throwing the clothes isn't sane from the start. Have a Nice day.

Hi, normally if I have old clothes I pass them on to the lady that cleans our house. She then takes what she wants for her family and passes the rest on to her friends. I once threw some really old clothes away because I felt they had seen better days and I was too embarrassed to give them to her. But when I looked again she had scratched them out the bin and took them home with her, so now I just give her everything.

Hello Jennib1, that's a really wise decision because even if you put them on the trash others will take them. it's a different view when you're talking about people who can't afford clothes so they will desperately look for a new ones. it's a real waste if you just throw them away, good thing you can give it to some one else's. Have a nice day.

really, what is the point of keeping old clothes that you don;t like or don't fit you any more? i always go through my closet about once every year and then donate what doesn't fit anymore or i don't like anymore.

Hello cher913, I trongly agree with you that there is no point of keeping those old clothes because you have to make sure that the unfit ones should be segregated. besides, if it doesn't fit there's no use wearing it or it's gonna tear or something.

I am guilty keeping clothes that don't fit me anymore just because they give me motivation to trim my body and be a little healthier so I can wear these clothes again. Although, I must say, this trick has not worked for me yet. haha

Hello Jazel_juan, you're such a kind hearted person for doing this. it means a lot to those who people had been victims of the disaster and typhoon, very good work. most specially in the orphanage because children there cannot afford to have clothes. am sure they are grateful for you giving them your old stuff. better than throwing it away and be just another clog in the pipes or useless trash. Have a nice day.

Hello Ifa225, Wow, you have clothes for modeling or you don't like it to be just display in your wardrobe any more?? well, if it doesn't fit anymore, the logical choices are give it away to some one who can fit in or use it as a rug, which is i find ridiculous. good luck on how you give it away then. have a nice day.

Always i give my old and used things to charity and orphanage. As we don't do anything with our old clothes and things. If we offered the old used clothes, unwanted things and old books to the charity or the orphanage other people will get benefits with our things and we will get more satisfaction with our activity. In my childhood, my mother always provide our used clothes to the near by orphanage. She visit the orphanage once in a year and provide our old clothes, books, notes, stationary items to the kids in the place. At that time i went there with my mother and siblings and spend some time with the kids there. Really we have a great time while playing with that kids. I watched the happiness in the kids face while receiving our things. They will get more enjoyment and excitement with our used things and we will get more pride by helping them. Some persons in my place will provide their old clothes and things to exchange for new items or to buy new things. But this kind of activity don't give any satisfaction to us. If we offered our used and unwanted things to this kind of charities and orphanages, lot of people will get benefits with it. The books given to the orphanage is placed in their library and lot of students in that place have the ability to use the book. In this way, our old book will increase the knowledge of lot of students. Offer your old things, books and clothes to orphanage or charities, you will get more happiness with your activity.

I always donate clothes that are reusable and are in good condition. There is a local church that has a clothes closet with a sign that reads Take What You Need, Give What You Can.

Nowadays there are much less people who are otherwise takers for old torn clothes. In this instance the preference is to burn those old worn out clothes in an effort to do away with the same or dispose of it .

Hello Sukumar794, I think those who can't afford to have those new clothes had no choice but to put up with the clothes they have. salvaging the old clothes from trash were no one's using it any more i think. those old people would eventually take the clothes they don't have. Have a Nice day.

I don't keep my old clothes since I will not wear them at all. It means nothing if I keep them. I have no more room for them. So I will give the old clothes to the people who are in need. At least it is a good cycle. I don't like wasting. I love China

Hello Youles, there's no absolutely no reason to keep them when it's just gonna be part of the crowd. or it will jut add more dust to the wardrobe. always consider yourself giving your clothes to some people that can't afford, like the people who walks out in the streets there. never consider keeping it at all.

hi knight, i would really love to give away my old clothes. however, the country that i'm staying, it's quite difficult to find orphanage to give clothings too. either it's too far away or there's one that i think there's already too many people donating and i would want to donate to one who really needs it more

Hello Dream Ozn, that's good for you that you have given your clothes to the orphanage but of course, those are mostly kids. there's obviously a lot of orphanage here in the Philippines. in fact, there are more kids than the center itself. so, you have plenty of time to give it to them in the future. keep doing it and am sure soem will benefit. have a nice day.

I give them to my older sister. Most of the clothes I buy are of good quality. I don't even buy most of them since my sister-in-law sends me clothes every year i don't have to buy anymore! So when they no longer fit me or i'm bored with them already, I just give them to my older sister who's smaller and shorter than me. Sometimes i give them to my nanny.

if they were out of trend, I either give them away to relatives/charity or recycle them as rags. some of my clothes, I had been wearing them since I was 12 and they still fit.... I dont buy cheap clothes cos they get ruined so fast. I am more into long term investment. T-shirts from Tribal,Lee,Fubu and Bench lasts for along time. The made in China ones.... they got ruined after few months. The T-shirt I am wearing now, I purchased it when I was 15 and I am going to be 27 this June.

I never put raggedy clothes down there just toss those in the trash but wearables I do take downstairs. these are things that look good but nmot on me or else are too s mall.

Hello Hatley, that's good to know that even though you are living in the retirement center, you still able to put some clothes that can still be wore by other people. I wish i could do that now a days but my clothes are scarce and not much in the wardrobe except the ones i wore for the past few years. yeah, throw the one that shouldn't be use for rags, but in here we do recycle it and then turn it into rags. Have a nice day.

Hi Letran, happy to see you here again. As for my family old clothes, we usually would collect them and give them as a hand-me-down clothes to our relatives living in the villages. We always make sure that those clothes are still in good condition. For those torn-off clothes, we will use it for wiping the house. At least, we are not wasting them at all. My family didn't like to waste anything in our home. We always re-use or re-cycle them until they are can't be use anymore.

dear LK, Well, I do not keep old clothing, I always check my kids drawers and closet for clothes that needs to be discarded. I gave it to charity institution and victims of calamities. It's rainy season again, so we need to sort out unused clothes for donation. Our municipality will soon have their vehicles roam around the area collecting old clothes.

I give them to a charity organization usually, unless they are ripped or something so badly that they cannot be used again (which is pretty rare for me, but it does happen). There are a lot of people who need that kind of stuff after all, so I just feel better about myself doing that.

Hello puccagirl, well i hope you would have time to stitch them because ripped ones won't probably look good if they wear it and walk in public. the reason why they need it because they can't afford to buy clothes even the cheap ones in the markets like quiapo or something. am sure they feel better doing that.

Hi, My mom also used to give away the old clothes to the needy/poor. In our city, you can see many persons who collect old clothes (but in good conditions) for re-using them and instead they exchange some household items like steel utensils (usable in kitchen), plastick drums and buckets etc. However, i prefer to give away to the needy and sometimes in some charity camps etc. have a nice time.

Hello Viju0410, good to know that people collect clothes that are old and no longer of use. well, as long as it can be used for something else by other people except killing some one then that's good. as for the clothes, i think that is also important because they can't survive the night with out the clothes. they get sick with out it, have a nice day.

I used to give aways my clothes before to my poor patients or relatives but now I saved it because my niece is getting bigger and need clothes too. It is much better if she's the one wearing my old clothes since I only wear them 3 to 4 times and still looks new. Also so that I wil not spend lots money on shopping during holiday while she staying here with me.

Hello Bhebelen14, just like our familt, my siblings and my parents used to give out old clothes to the poor and my relatives in the province. but since my nephews and niec are growing i think it was wise of them to give it to the kids. some of my siblings childhood clothes were given to thekids and it was truly a legacy there. have a nice day
