Dadaji ‘Get the frog out’

When I was taking my breakfast this morning my granddaughter said, ‘Dadaji, please take the frog out from throat of Dadimaa; (Dada means-paternal grandfather; ji-is a mark of respect, Dadimaa means-paternal grandmother).
I was confused, asked her why she said so; her reply was; a frog is there in her throat; so she is unable to talk.
Actually my wife Kalyani was effected due to sudden change of weather and her voice was almost gone, it was coarse like male voice.
Now she is better after several times gargling with warm water.
Here in India we have a say; when someone swallows a live frog, it sits in the throat hence the sound of the person is like that of a frog.
Later I came to know one of our renter ladies told her this.
Any way I explained her, nothing like that, Dadimaa will be ok by this evening, it is due to the bath in rain on rooftop with wind blowing; she was convinced and sat in her lap.
In my opinion we shouldn’t give wrong information to babies; it sits deep in their delicate mind; might be harmful in the long run.
Did you have any such experience with your kids or grandkids?
Did you ever suffer from such ‘coarse voice’; how you got rid from that?
Please share and comment on this story.
Thanks in advance.

Yes professor saying wrong words to children might affect their thinking but we can explain it to them properly so they will not get confused.
I respond to your wife discussion last night about her sore throat I actually told her to used some strepsils a little bit help for her throat. It happens tome sometimes if i went to stay out late with friends to hang out, singing and shouting while having fun. After i woke up in the morning surely i will have a sore throat. I hope your wife get well soon. Please say hi for me.

Hi Professor, I agree with you, we should be very careful when explaining things to young children. Never give them wrong information or say anything that will frighten them as it can cause great harm and stay with them even into adulthood. Blessings.

Honey is supposed to sooth a sore dry throat.I expect it is all that dryness and heat you are going through. We say you have a frog in your throat if you cough suddenly. We say these things and never think it is going to affect the little ones.I suppose you are right ,I always try to give correct information to my grandchildren although sometimes I pull their leg ,naughty nanny likes a bit of fun.Your grandaughter sounds delightful. My friend has had a baby girl few weeks ago,her older son who is four looked in the cot and screamed ,it is moving. His little cousin had a dolly pram with a dolly in it,but she always called the dolly her baby. And my friends little boy thought his mum was having a dolly.Just thought you would like that.xx

Thanks for the details, children are so simple; when Bishu was born, he is 10 months now, came from hospital, her mom said she bought her from hospital..

hello professor,
nini is such a darling. and i know she is very smart too.
i agree with you that things should be explained truly and in the simplest way so that the children understands. there are so many parents who, for the sake of explaining, tell children of myths, or hearsay just to feed their curiosity.
i am a favorite of these kind of disease professor, i easily get cough and colds, and yes, sore throat. i am advised to take vitamin c and more liquids when it happens. it is so difficult not to have a voice especially if you are working in an office.
when i dont have a voice, i usually chew on strepsils and i drink lukewarm lemonade.
have a nice day.
