How to explain?

As I have said in my previous discussion on Rath Yatra or car festival, I am enjoying the live telecast of the festival at Puri in my state Orissa with my granddaughter Subhee and my 10 months young grandson Bishu, you can see him on his walker.
She is holding the remote control of the TV and keeps changing channels because it is telecasted in several channels.
I always say she is intelligent and a keen observer.
The same scene seen and the voice of the commenter heard in different channels have little time delay; it is so because the data transmitted from the transmitter near the Chariots has to pass different distances in reaching the TV set; some may have to travel around the globe via the satellites.
This Subhee could mark and asked me the reason.
She is just 4 years young, I can’t convince her about satellites, signals etc; so; on paper I drew one globe, over it antennas and high above satellites, drew lines to show direct and around the globe signal reach; any way she is convinced; but not fully; she will ask me later; I have to quench her thirst for knowledge.
Can anyone suggest ways and means?
How you explain your kids/grandkids?
We must try to give correct information as far as possible.

Hello Professor2010
It is good to see your young granddaughter's thirst for knowledge, as well as your determination to quench her thirst as much as you are able.
I like your idea of drawing the picture a globe with the antennaes and the lines. As you say, these concepts may be beyond her abilities to grasp at this age. She may need something that, for her, is a bit less abstract.
How about showing her an example of the speed of sound? It could be as simple as standing 600 feet or so away from a person who has a bat and ball. When they hit the ball, she will see the ball fly into the air, but there will be the delay of the sound of the impact of the ball with the bat. She will see this and hear it. It could be a good learning example about the speed of sound, and this concept could help her to understand the delay of transmissions.
It is just a thought.

The idea is not bad i will try.
Actually the picture and sound signals from transmitter travel as electromagnetic radiations with the speed of light.
Thanks

Yes, but she cannot understand that. The concept you are trying to teach is that of a delay in communications. Why not use something more tangible, that she can understand? As she grows, she will remember this concept and apply it to other areas.

hi professor,
subhi is very smart and can easily understand but still she wont understand technical things yet.
give her the simplest answer in her own layman's words.. adult baby words.
what i know is, all little girls have questions one after another. just be patient in answering.
have a nice day.

Sweety
Few hours ago while talking food i was explaining her, she is not convinced, because of the technical terms.
