Socially friendly cats!

My boys are very shy! They hide under the couch when any visitor comes and when they see them, they run right away. I feel bad as my visitors sometimes get offended. I do wish I can show off their cuteness to my friends.. but they do not like to be social! Is there anyway, how I can loosen my cats up to my visitors a bit? They both were more friendly when they were kittens but not so much anymore... Also, I was feeding this kitten outside a while ago and she/he was very afraid of me as well... will he keep being afraid of me?

My kitty is just like yours! She doesn't like strangers at all! Whenever someone new comes into the house she'll run away and find a spot to hide. When we had a family reunion, she spent the entire evening hiding upstairs under the bedcovers! I was really sad because I wanted to show her off to the kids. She doesn't seem to like men much. She's still scared of my Dad, and will only let him touch her if I'm holding her still. She won't go anywhere near my sister's boyfriend! I've gotten her to get used to a good friend of mine, but she's still not really ever snuggly. The only person she ever seems happy to see is me. lol She follows me everywhere.

That's like my cat.. My parents make fun of them because he's always following me around everywhere.

My sister makes jokes about it too. She calls my cat my "furry cat-shaped shadow" and "your fuzzy stalker". I think it's adorable when she follows me around.

The best way I know to make cats like visitors a little more is give the visitor their favorite treat. A lot of times they will come out of hiding long enough to smell the person and get the treat. Do that a couple of times and they may be more friendly to guests. On the kitten issue, if he/she has been living outside most of its life it is close to being feral and will most likely always be distrustful of humans. The kitten can also smell your cats on her and she may feel that is a threat since she can't see the other cats. Once the kitten gets older and is completely feral don't be surprised if it never comes near you again, but will eat most food that is left out once you leave.

sometimes it takes a while if you are patient I'm sure the kitten will warm up to you in time. my cat likes people but not other cats. I used to have alot of cats but i found them good homes and now I only have one. my daughter brought one over to visit recently and my cat was really vicious. She also beats up my daughters dog and gets along with mine.

If the person is a regular visitor, your cats will likely eventually get used to him or her. However, there is no reason to push your cats to socialize with people if they don't wish to do so. My male cat isn't especially fond of new people. However, he is extremely sweet once he deems someone worthy. He made up to my boyfriend within a couple days of meeting him, and he now has his daddy completely wrapped around his little paw.

my cat - This is my playful cat
Lore, my boy kitten is the opposite of yours. My kitten is very friendly even closer to me than my real boys! Every time I wake in the morning, he is right in front of our door waiting. He also shows off when visitors come and they like his sociability. He can sit on their laps and can play with their children.

Hi friend, sad to hear about this, i wonder why your cat is doing this? may be it will get fear while seeing the new persons. Are you always keep them inside in your house? let them to move every where in your house, as well as took them for a little walk in the street, hope it will change their attitude

There might be something wrong with your cat but I'm not really sure about what it is. Maybe something happened to him outside. Try to hold him in your lap. Cats like it and he's feel comfortable again.

I would think that the more visitors they are exposed to, the more used to it they would become. But other than that i think there is little you can do to encourage them to be more sociable. Why would they want to be petted by strangers after all? Good sense tells them to be wary.

I do hate cats like that, the ones that run away when they see a person.. Since i do like touching cats.. Most of the cats are like that, but there are some, that if you approach slowly, can be touched. maybe you should try making them used to many people..

i was also like that when i was a kid. Now i am a professor, teaching to many students, and my shy nature is not there! Another important thing is that my sons were also like that.i thought that, they will also become all right when they grow up . But they have grownup but still they are having the same shyness!
