Collecting souvenirs from my trips!

Every time I travel, I love collecting souvenirs from the places that I visit! It doesn't matter if I go to another country, or just a new city that I've never been before. I usually buy something that is representative of the city or the country and if I don't have time or money to spend for something special I buy small magnets and postcards. My friends are sometimes tired of me when I go to the souvenir shop and they think it's strange. I don't really mind about what they say because for me it feels like taking a piece of this place with me, a piece of memory that I'll keep for ever! I have travelled a few times and I have small things from every place that I've been so far. I even keep the museum tickets or the city maps where I have notes of the important parts of the city and the monuments! I was wondering if this feels strange to you or if other people have the same habit!

It is natural that man would like to keep souvenirs of the country which he visited , to remember the days spent in this country .. He may not visit this country again

Yes, if it's a country that we'll never visit again, we tend to buy even more stuff that represent the country! Thank you for your comment :)

I used to collect all souvenirs from my trips including my tickets...but since i moved a lots, i lost it all...and now i just have 3 luggage of clothes and my important documents only. I may move again so that i can't keep many things. it is a reason why i wish i have enough money to buy a house, and then i can keep all things i got after every trip...

In that case it's not easy to carry with you all those stuff, you can probably store them at your parent's storage place. That's what I did when I moved last year! I wish you good luck with buying a house, it is an important step in a person's life to get its own home!

I had a friend who used to buy T-shirts for the children and let them wear them and when they outgrew them she saved them and made a quilt to give then when they graduated from High School. They enjoyed the useful souvenier and had a life time memory of their youth.

That's a very nice thought and a very unique idea! It's impressive what memories we have from all those small objects and it's great when we can have them with us for many years!

I love to travel to different countries in the world. At the very least I buy some postcards which I place in special looking albums when I get back home. I have kept some bank notes and coins. The most interesting has been a triangular coin and a 3 dollar note from the Cook Islands. Wow! I always look around and try very hard to get a costume doll for my collection. I got a wooden doll in Romania and a family of bead dolls in South Africa. I sometimes buy fridge magnets. They are cheap, light weight and don't take up much space in my luggage. I love to keep happy travel memories. My costume dolls are in my glass door book case. My magnets are on my fridge door in my kitchen. I am very keen on buying those types of souvenirs.

A triangular coin! It sounds interesting, I've never seen one like this. I also keep some coins from different countries, I started collecting them mostly because coins can't be changed back to my home currency once I leave the foreign country so I keep them in small pouches. I've always admired doll collections in people's houses and it seems that you have a good one! Thanks for sharing :)

I agree with you. I always bring something from my trips, no matter how small it is. Many times I also bring souvenirs to my smaller grandchildren. We used to buy bigger things, but after some time we discovered that we were full of knicks and kncks from everywhere. I had, among other things, a doll collection from every place that my husband had been when he was a soccer player. After a while, we started or mug collection. And then, easier, I started buying T shirts when I became a widow and started traveling alone. Now I even buy keyrings, and magnets for a dollar if I don´t have more money.

Yes, souvenirs are very good ideas for gifts as well. Every time I bring something back home for my friends and family to show them that I didn't forget them while I was travelling! I forgot about T-Shirts! I also buy the classic T-shirt with the logo "I love Rome" or "I love Spain" :))) I wear them at home and they are lovely reminders of the trips! Thanks for your comment! x

When my grandchildren were small, T shirts were the gift after a trip. It was good that everyone had a similar gift and parents liked the idea of a useful souvenir.

I don't like collecting souvenirs from my trips.I think it's just waste my money.I prefer spend my money to give for poor people in my place trips.sometimes i collect my photo in my place trips.and the important think is bring my family to feel happy together. My favorite place to bring my family is the zoo.and my favorite animal is give a hug for monkey.

Thank you for sharing! For me it's like a hobby but I can also understand your point of view. I've never been to the zoo, I imagine it must be fascinating! Have a nice day!

I purchase souvenirs sometimes from the different places that I visit; however I do not just buy anything, I usually try to buy something that either will have some kind of use to me or something that won't just take up space in my home. I have seen places where people have too many knick-knacks around the house and it can be more clutter than anything. For example, a lot of times I will purchase shot glasses. When I have friends over or am entertaining at my place I will use these for shots for people having drinks. They do not just sit there on a shelf to be displayed because I just don't really have the space to be doing that with these little things. Or perhaps I will bring back candy or something else that will allow me to eat it, enjoy it, but not have it create a clutter in my home. I think the biggest things for me are pictures and/or memories. Those are always good for me because they can remind me of a trip without being too cumbersome to have around the house.

When I vivit a place, I think I am the classic "touristic" type and I do what every other tourist would do! You think in a most practical way and it sounds more logical. Generally, if I travel overseas to a place that I'll probably never visit again, I try to find something local that represents the country. I might bring back a local drink or a food that can't be found easily back home. Shot glasses are very traditional in my country, they have printed images of the country or the island that you visit and they usually come with a small bottle with the same design!

That's a good hobby. I also do that, as much as possible I also buy souvenirs every time I visit a new place. Of course, aside from things that I bought, I always make sure that I have taken pictures from that place. It's almost a must to bring camera all the time when you are travelling or going to new places. Good day!

Hi! Pictures can't be replaced with any souvenirs, they can capture the place and the unique moments during each trip! Souvenirs offer something different, they make me feel nostalgic about those moments! Thank you for sharing!

I think that it is just normal to buy souvenir items everytime we go to other places. In fact I even kept the parking tickets of all my travels. But later on, I no longer buy that much since everytime a friend or a colleague will travel, they usually have something for me. I don't know how many keychains I received from friends, mostly from Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. I took photos. A lot of them, then I would post them on fb. That way, I could also share to my experiences with my relatives and friends.

It feels nice when other people remember you when they travel and I try to do the same for them! Facebook is ideal for sharing your experience and showing how great time you had when you are abroad and you can't communicate directly with your friends! Thank you for your comment :)

I don't think it's weird. I also love collecting souvenirs from my trips (including tickets and maps too!). I always think that when I grow old, looking at the souvenirs I've collected through the years would bring back lots of good memories.:) I don't want to forget the places I've visited so these souvenirs are there to remind me of them. I put some of my souvenirs on my bookshelves and they look really nice. They make my home look cozy.

Cozy and interesting at the same time! I like magnets a lot so if someone sees my fridge, it is full of them! My brother has broken a few though because he closes the fridge without being careful.. Thank you for your comment :)

Like you , I love collecting some souvenirs from the places that I visit. I usually collected native dolls and snow balls in every country that I visited. But locally I collected key chains, T-shirts and pictures which serves as very memorable items. I feel very happy when I see all my collections because its always reminded me of the wonderful vacations and travelled that I had.

Yes that's true! I like to hear that other people have small souvenir collections like me.. My friends only take pictures and they think it's boring to buy souvenirs while we are on vacations. Thank you for your comment!

Thank you! They just have sentimental value for me and I buy small items that don't take much space, so they usually cost a dollar or two! But it's a good idea to search for unusual items that can be reselled in the future. :)

It sounds nice that you have the charms to remember your clidhood trips! This is exactly why we buy the souvenirs, after many years we will still have something to remember. It doesn't matter if you don't wear the charms, they are always going to hold the memories of those old times! Thanks for your response !

I usually buy some souvenirs when I travel. I try to find some things that I can use in the house for instance mugs with pictures from the places that I have visited or a calendar with pictures from my destination. I collect pop and rock music from around the world and when I visit another country I usually buy some cds. I have found some nice music that way, and it would have been impossible to buy those cds in my own country. In past I also bought lots of postcards when I visited a new place. Today I don't have a postcard collection anymore, but I love to take pictures of the places that I visit and I keep all of those pictures in my photoalbums. Like you I keep the city maps from the places I have visited. Sometimes I am able to recycle them when I visit the same place again and they are a nice memory from my trip.

It sounds nice to collect music from the world, you must have a unique collection! However I found mugs hard to carry in the suitcase because they take much space and they are very fragile. The last one that I took was 5 years ago from Dubai and it is my favourite. City maps are the best because it is a great reminder of the road that I have followed in my trips and the areas that I've visited. I am really bad with names and as you said it can be updated and used again the next time! Thank you for your comment!

hello besweet! It is never strange to me at all. While I was reading your post, I can even imagine myself as you, because that is so similar to what I'm doing every time I have trips.I think it is normal to buy souvenirs to places that you've been, and almost every tourist do that. Aside from souvenirs, I also take a lot of pictures, because those are very different from souvenirs, those pictures are priceless. I also do keeping of tickets, passes, maps, guides, and all those stuffs that I can keep to remind me of my trip to that certain place.
