Amazon's great, but for a laptop?

I was thinking of purchasinga laptop off of amazon. I could save up some amazon gift cards and credits and that way I'd have a few dollars off atleast, and could get it faster that way. Of course I've also wondered if I should go that route.
Amazon's great and all, but for a laptop? So I turned to mylot, yourlot, ourlot, the lot, to see what YouLot think of this.
Have you bought a laptop from amazon before? Was it a good decision or bad decision?
Honestly I was inspired to write this discussion from something I read on reddit! lol!
So, to buy a laptop from them or not to buy a laptop from them?
(walmart's cheaper)

Oh, yes, absolutely! I bought a brand new Acer netbook from Amazon.com last fall. I was originally going to buy it from Newegg.com but Amazon had the same model I wanted for over $100 less. I had a Prime membership then so I only had to pay $3.99 for one day shipping.
If you do decide to get it from Amazon, make sure you're buying directly from Amazon not a Marketplace seller. Marketplace sellers aren't necessarily authorized resellers for the computer brand and buying from someone who's not an authorized reseller could make the manufacturer warranty invalid. You could also end up in a situation like I did when I bought my laser printer from a Marketplace seller--the price was fantastic but I didn't get the full balance of the manufacturer warranty even though my printer was brand new.
The one complaint that I have about ordering my netbook from Amazon isn't even their fault. I ordered it with one-day shipping. The next morning I woke up with a horrible sinus infection. I went to the urgent care clinic and spent about 6 hours waiting to be seen. I didn't worry about the package because UPS always holds them for me when I'm not home to sign, and a signature was required on the delivery.
I was really annoyed when I got home and found my netbook sitting under my doormat that evening. The driver had just stuck it there without getting a signature at all.
I'm so glad they put it in an Amazon box instead of just putting a shipping label on the packaging. It was sitting there for about five hours before I got home. If it'd been in its own packaging it probably would have walked off.
In Amazon's favor, I had customer service call me the next day and the representative I spoke to was just as appalled as I'd been. Every other package I've ordered since then has required my signature on it... even the $1.50 bag of paper penny wrappers.

This makes me feel better and waives it (amazon) more in my favor. That UPS driver was crazy to have done that and it wouldnt' surprise me if it hadn't gotten back to him or her and they'd since been fired.
I will be sure that I am looking at amazon directly and not one of their sellers, thank you. Though if it's a seller well known for computer products I may go with them. Either way i had been looking at acer's on their site, so I was wondering are you happy overall with the acer brand?

Yes, I am. I absolutely love my Acer Group computers!
We have two Gateway desktops plus my netbook. We haven't had a single hardware issue with any of them, and the performance on all three of them is fantastic. It's been such a relief after all the hassles we had with the HP laptops we had!

There's no reason not to go the Amazon route, unless it was way more expensive there than on some other shopping portals you might be considering..and if you have a bunch of amazon vouchers or gift cards to use up,consider them as a discount on the purchase..Wallyworld works too..If as you say,if you can get the same one there cheaper, why not,and you should be able to check if the laptop's in stock before you call in..

It wouldn't be the same laptop and amazon is more expensive BUT.. I've been making $6.00 every two days on mturk. I think if I just wait out, use mturk and the money I get here I could get a laptop from amazon. Of course if I wait about two months I could get a laptop from walmart...
I guess I'll just wait, play both scenarios out and whichever way I have the money faster, I'll use it.
With walmart i'd have to pay the full retail price, but with amazon I could get a higher quality laptop for a little more but get a "discount" so to speak by using my mturk points and amazon gc's.

Even though I have a balance of gift vouchers on Amazon, both from gifts and survey payouts,I'd not just jump at the opportunity to buy something using them..I'll check out the alternatives, both on and offline with cash, credit,or voucher payment options as you're doing and work out what's best for Me!

I never bought a computer from Amazon before. I had checked their computer price against other stores, they aren't cheap at all though. It is better to get their tablet, or cell phone, books, CD than computer I guess. If you find a similar item from Walmart, you don't have to go through Amazon, why not stick with wal- mart to save your money.

That is what I was thinking was to save my money by going through walmart, but I'm not sure. I most likely will pick walmart but if I can get more amazon credits and gift cards I may just go with them. I want to keep my options open anyway.

It's no more hassle than buying from a local store, believe it or not. Here computers come with at least a 1-year manufacturer's warranty. If there are any problems with the computer while it's under warranty, it needs to be sent off to the manufacturer for repair or replacement.
Usually you just call the manufacturer's technical support number, explain the problems, and if they can't troubleshoot the problem on the phone they arrange to send you a box with all the padding to ship the computer and a prepaid label. It takes a week or two for them to repair it but the consumer doesn't have to pay anything toward it.
Most of the local stores send out computers instead of repairing them on site so it's more convenient to deal with the manufacturer directly.

yea sure that site amazon is good and really amazing site if you live in usa but if you are out, you are going to pay for the shipment just as much as the price, so that means you are paying double the price for a thing you can buy locally that is the bad thing

I wouldn't even be considering it if I had to pay a hefty shipping fee.

I personally have never bought a laptop from Amazon. I know Amazon.com is a lot better than Amazon.ca is. I think its a good idea Canada Amazon doesn't sell items such as that so I am saving for household items (such as pot sets, vacuum) this saves me money and I get them mailed to me. You could always save up Paypal money (from Swagbucks and so on) to put against say Walmart.

If I were to do that I would go to a store first and find what I wanted, then look on Amazon. I think I would save up PayPal and purchase it in person, though.

Well, I already bought some items throught Amazon and I found it very cheap and trusted. Anyway I have never bought a laptop from it.
If you have found the same laptop and with a cheaper price I suggest you to buy it on Walmart.

Well, I am not so sure whether amazon will give you a cheap laptop or not. However, if ever you buy on amazon, you don't need to pay for the delivery fee and that is their advantage.
