Remember Friends serial where a girl Monica was one of friend amongst them but she was American, then why her name was Monica? I think Monica is an Indian name.
Monica got attention because of Bill Clinton also I do not know what the matter was.

Monica is very popular name in almost every country apart a very few where they go for traditional names. I am an Indian and if I go through yellow pages or telephone lists I see this particular name as very common. I can see this name in almost every continen t so this is not limited to America or India only.

yes, in India it is one of common name like Puja, Geeta etc that is why I thought it is an Indian name. yes we can see number of people with same name and we can realize how that name is common.

thanks for the information, I did not know the meaning of Monica but because of you I came to know the meaning of Monica. I did not know that it is Greek/Italian name which means a person who lives alone or solitary.

Monica seems to be a name of North African origin whose meaning is uncertain, since the mother of St Augustine, who was born in North Africa, bore that name. It has since become popular as a Christian name because of its association with St Augustine. It is not an Indian name, even though it may be popular in India and nor can it be said to be an 'American' name, though it is quite a popular name in English-speaking countries as well as France (where it is 'Monique') and other Christian countries.

thank you for the information, monica is very common and popular Indian name when I heard it in Friends I though why they are using an Indian name for a American lady but now I have came to know it is an American name and very popular and well know in several countries.
I think, it is related to Mr. Clinton as well, when I was in school I used to heard news about them.

Monika, is very famous name in India, and there is song "monica oh my darling", we had a Madam in college her name was also Monika.
