I cant have any pets at my apartment unless they are like fish, I think a turtle would be aloud since its the same type of thing its in a bowl its not in a cage or lose its not hairy and so it wont make a mess. My dad and his girlfriend got a turtle that gave me the idea, they also have cats and fish. But, i really want a turtle now they are so cute. Then i found out the aquarium and everything they would need for it cost them 117 dollars. I never thought a turtle could cost that much. i cant afford a turtle. I just dont see how they are so much, when i had rabbits they only cost about 20 for a cage and then cost of food and bedding but even with the ra bbit it wasnt even 100 and they found the turtle they only bought the stuff for it. does anyone else find this insane price for a turtle?

Turtle is a good option, I myself has 2 turtles and it's really not hard to look after them. It's fine to go on holiday for a week or two if you give them food before leaving. They rarely need an aquarium cleaning as they have an aquarium filter. I found a glass manufacturer who made me an unique aquarium which has a shelf in it, where I put rocks. I fill the aquarium with water until it reaches the shelf and I attached wooden steps so they can go out on the dry part of the aquarium anytime. I put a lamp over their land, it's very useful at wintertime. At summertime they have their own enclosed basin at our garden, but you will need to keep them at their aquarium all the year I guess, so think about that they won't stay small, they will need space. Sadly aquariums are not cheap, but making it with a glass worker may be cheaper than buying it in a shop (sounds not to logical, I know) and it even be more useful for it's purpose, like mine is. If you are interested, I can upload some pics about it.

wow that's quite a lot!! In this price we can get a brand new decent smartphone :) i live in india and i can get it for free anytime .they are available in abundance in villages and small cities river banks.117 dollar turtle then more added expense because of it's food and maintenance.i think you should contact to your relatives and friends to ask the actual price so you can get a fair idea how much they really cost.

Hello musicluv4life I was under the impression that little turtles were no longer sold in pet stores because they spread some sort of disease. I don't know what. Maybe I dreamed all of this. That does seem like a hefty price for a turtle. I used to just catch my own turtles for myself when I was a child, and then later, I got them for my children. Perhaps you could look on craigslist or elsewhere and find an aquarium for next to nothing. I sometimes see them on the curb. Then just find yourself a turtle. Peace

That does seem high. Have you looked on craigslist or on freecycle.org in your area to see if someone is giving away or selling some of the equipment that you would need? I've heard that turtles can be delicate to raise. I don't see why you couldn't have one in your apartment if it's not too big (the turtle, that is). Where my son lives, the rule is that they can have any pet that can't drown - fish, seahorses, water turtles, etc.

I have a red eared slider turtle named Leonardo Da Vinci and she is precious. Those prices for a turtle is insanely cheap! I had to pay more. My red eared slider cost 25 and then the take like 140 for the 40 gallon one. And then there's the rest of the materials. You spend a lot of money when you first by for the turtle but then it's all the love left there. You save food because they don't eat a bunch, you just feed them a little every day. They're easy to take care of, the only hassle is just cleaning the tank. To me, getting s turtle is worth it and a really interesting experience. =)
