Seems I can’t take up journey strains any more

I went to attend the ‘Engagement Ceremony’ of my nephew’s son on 25th of this month, it was held at the bride’s residence 250 kilometers away; as the senior most in the family I had to perform certain rituals. So we a group of 25 persons moved in 4 cars at 9a.m, reached there at 1.45pm, actually we were supposed to move at 7am; but it was not possible. We took some snacks on the way; I confess it was oily and spicy. After we reached we were given accommodation in a hall attached to a temple; the weather was hot, we were given cold drinks, snacks, but this was again oily and spicy. We were given food at 5.15pm after the Engagement Ceremony’; we started back by the cars at 7.15pm, reached home at 11pm. I was feeling uncomfortable, tired, exhausted; I rushed to toilet, next showered; while I was coming out; I felt as if I saw ‘white zigzag lines, stars’ in front, I called my son, he hold my hand and took me to my room; he measured my BP, it was 165/100 and pulse was 106. I tried to sleep and could sleep after 2 hours. Next morning doctors checked, I was given medicines; I was told it was due to hot weather, exhaustion, spicy/oily food at odd hours. I was advised total bed rest for 3 days; today I am feeling better and sharing my story. Seems I shouldn’t take up journeys any more, should avoid spicy oily food totally. I must not take strains of any kind; my body won’t accept. Please share any similar story and comment on this. Thanks in advance. Prof.Bhuwan 29th June 2012.

I think professor, you should refrain from travels of long distance, specially if you will take it by car. The car may be air conditioned, but once you alight the hotness of the weather outside can make you sick. In your present health condition, experiencing that, can indeed elevate your BP and make you sick Also, one never knows what kind of foods will be served at the party. But you can expect that they are oily and even spicy. So, maybe you might as well avoid them and maybe delegate your duty to others.

SIMPLYD; yes. Professor Bhaiya should not indulge in strenuous trips though it may be for four or rive hours. After travel he should take complete rest. In this case he has travelled for nearly 9 hours in a day and that too participated in function emotionally. Also food is another thing that causes strain to our physical system. good day,

Simplyd, I agree with you completely. As we get older our bodies will definitely let us know what we can and can not handle. And the hot weather definitely will make us sick if we are careful. I have air conditioner in my home and car, even then coming and going I start to feel a little sick. It would be a wise chose for him to avoid traveling like that. It is a hard decision though as we enjoy spending time with our family and friends and attending special occasions.

Well, if the occasion is only on a near place, professor can attend. But if it will take him a long time to travel just to go to an occasion, then he might as well just stay home and be updated by it through pictures and video taken from the occasion. At professor's age and sickness' history , it is better to be careful of his health.

I would tend to think that the majority of the reason that you experienced the problems that you had after this trip was because of the fact that you did spend a lot of time sitting down and also eating foods that really aren't that good for you. In the future, when you do need to make a journey, you should take snacks with you that are healthier and also make sure that you are taking breaks from travelling frequently so that you are able to move around.

Professor! Not only you, many of us suffer like this if we travel in hot weather. And oily food really compounds the issue.I get nausea , headache and feel totally sick and miserable if I get up very early and travel that day in hot sun. I have to take it slowly. Getting zigzag lines is also a problem related to this travel and I have faced it.Complete rest and taking it easy for the next few days would get you back to normal. If you have to travel by car, take Domstal before you travel. This will make you feel much better. It was prescribed by a doctor for me.

hi, In my opinion you should travel less and rest more. I think at your age it will be good for you to stay at home most of the time and rest. Its also useful for you to eat healthy foods to provide you energy and should be avoing any stress. Or else you will be in trouble. So stay healthy.

Oh, Professor! It was nice that you were able to attend the family Engagement Ceremony!! I know it's hard when our bodies can only take so much - particularly on a long journey and having to be with a large group where we can't necessarily control the situations. Though this is totally different, I think I mentioned before about when I had gestational diabetes during my second pregnancy. Already I was nauseous practically all of my pregnancy (just like my first), so I had to make sure there were bathrooms and strategize where they were wherever I went. High heat never helped with that situation either - so I had to avoid getting overheated by drinking a lot of water and bringing spray bottles and cold towels (all of which I packed and had with me during the summer days). I had to be VERY strict with my diet as I was avoiding ever having to use insulin . . . so I'd often ask the host ahead of time if I would be able to pack some of my own food - as most party foods are carb-ful rather than contain any protein. In otherwords, I had to plan and pack whereever I went . . . and it was rather tiredsome to do it - but I knew I had to do it or else that meant my body would pay for it later. Glad you are feeling better now, Professor! Please take care and no more over doing it!!

Professor bhaiya: yes. strain is causing the problems. Travelling for four hours in a car - though it may be air conditioned--causes strain and causes fluctuation in BP. When I travelled from chennai to Brussles -- at one stage I felt the cramp in my left leg/thigh. So I got up and walked a few yards inside the plane. that helped me. I know all this is due to our age. Of course you have travelled only 4 hours --but immediately after that function was held -- these things cause tension in our mind - to see it is celebrated well. probably you could have travelled the previous day-- slept in the night there and then participated in the evening function - take rest there that day night and travelled back next day morning. good day

Hello Professor2010 It is unfortunate that you had such a calamity befall you on you journey. I am sure that your family appreciate your efforts in making it to, and officiating at the Engatemen Ceremony. I am glad that you are recovering. Peace
