Dear Michelle,
On the day that your husband was elected, you said that you had never been proud of the United States until that day. For the last three and a half years, I have been observing your husband and you, and I feel that it is time I share my thoughts with you. The day your husband was elected was the first time I was ever ashamed of this country, and today I am even more ashamed.
Letter continues at this link:

I wonder if she really sent it. If you've read it you will understand why I wonder that, she's pretty blunt and to the point.
take a peek and tell me, did she really send it? Do you concur with this lady?

Who knows if she sent it but I'm afraid I'd feel embarrassed for her if she did since she really has her facts mixed up! To begin with, Michelle made that out of context comment during the campaign, actually fairly EARLY in the campaign before her husband was even the official nominee, NOT the day he was elected. I'm also more than a little offended when anyone claims to know why those of us who voted for President Obama did so! Who is this woman to say he was elected because of the color of his skin?
I know I'm going to really "get it" here, Deb, but please bear with me and don't get mad or take it personally. To be honest, things like this actually make me feel ashamed of and embarrassed by some of the people in my country. I mean, anyone who voted FOR Obama is supposed to be fine with being accused of only doing so to somehow "prove" they're not racists while at the same time if anyone dares suggest that SOME of those who hate the President and everything he stands for may have some racist feelings we get trashed for even thinking such a thing.
You know what made me PROUD of my country back during the 2008 campaign? I was proud that we had an African American, a woman and a Hispanic among those vying for the nomination of a major party and that it came down to being between the first two NOT because of their "minority" status but because people liked what they heard from them and seemed to be getting past their prejudices. I was actually proud that the GOP VP nominee was a woman for the first time in history, never mind that Palin herself ended up being a tremendous disappointment on so many levels. By the way, that was something else I found offensive, that some within the Republican party seemed to think women who had supported Hillary Clinton would hop on board with McCain/Palin just because of her gender.
We'll have to agree to disagree again but I happen to like Michelle a lot. I've actually liked all of our First Ladies that I can remember and I have to give them ALL a great deal of credit for what they have to endure. Can you even imagine what it must feel like to be the first African American First Lady and to have to hear and read yourself described as "angry" all the time, no matter what you do or how you REALLY act? Heck, may she sometimes IS an "angry black woman" because of certain Republican Senators whose goal it is to "break" her husband!

I've also always been proud of my country but one can love and be proud of something or someone and still think they could do some things better. I still think and always will that Michelle was taken out of context with that remark. Haven't you ever said something that didn't come out EXACTLY as you wanted it to? She clearly meant she was proud for the first time of the way the American people were engaged in the process, which you have to admit has often been dismal. We have this wonderful right to vote and less than one quarter of those who CAN vote actually DO vote.
Anyway, I think you already know that MY view is that Romney would finish the destruction of America that Bush started. Obviously, that just one of many things on which we'll have to agree to disagree...hopefully without being disagreeable!
I have to add the only time I remember anyone being told they're lazy, selfish, etc. has been when Republicans have said that about the unemployed.

These are the two comments I'm refering to.
“The way I think about it is, this is a great, great country that had gotten a little soft and we didn’t have that same competitive edge that we needed over the last couple of decades. We need to get back on track.”
“But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America.”
As for the 'for the first time in my life, I'm proud of America...comment; I don't see how you can take that out of context. Pretty straight forward.

The president of the United States, and his wife Michelle get wagon loads of personal mail every day. What makes you think this silly letter would standout enough to even be noticed by the Obama's? Its quite ok for you to be ashamed of your country ( Most Canadian's are ashamed of the US too) but please try to put yourself in prospective. Its going to take millions of like minded people to get the US back on track, and Romney is not one of these!

And what makes you think as a nonAmerican that you know the feelings of the majority IN America?
and you are the ONLY Canadian I've heard from that feels America is something to be ashamed of. I AM not ashamed of Americans, and this woman was not either, we are ashamed of the current administration that works so hard to MAKE us ashamed of being American.
And Romney made $4.6M in donations in contributions under $250 from internet donations after the Supreme Court decision on Obamacare. I think that signals a shift in how Americans feel about him.

Wow. It would be nice to think that she sent it. She might have, but the chances of Michelle Obama actually reading it are less than me winning the lottery (and I don't buy lottery tickets).
I wish she would. I wish she would be forced to read it from beginning to end.

Someone read it, I'm pretty sure about that. And with the election looming would they not bring it to someone's attention? Not to mention the fact they want to make us all look like fools and racists, would they not be interested in the general feelings of common folks out there?

I wasn't suggesting they'd want to know cause they CARE, they'd want to know so they can think up the next lie.

I don't think she did, because it seems anymore if you speak your mind, they don't take kindly to it. We are losing our free speech and I really think she would have gotten a response or visit, that she would not want.

I was kind of wondering if she did send it, would it have repercussions for her. Isn't that sad? I mean, Americans having to be afraid to speak their mind. Many times when I am commenting or tweeting or posting here or on FB, I wonder. I was arguing with a liberal on FB, I don't cuss, or threaten, or even call names...but I was banned for 15 min. from posting due to being reported. I was stunned.
You're right, we are loosing our freedom of speech.

She probably sent it but it won't be read--if you want anyone in government to read anything you have to keep it to just a few lines and to the point.
I disagree with her on one thing--he wasn't elected because of his race, although that did probably help seal the deal. Obama was elected because the American public is so stupid and lazy that they refuse to think for themselves and latched onto his "hope and change"--they didn't examine it so didn't realize he said nothing of substance, just repeated the same tired speech over and over with a few minor changes. He didn't outline his plans for recovery and progress, just made empty promises and repeated his mantra.
I'm ashamed that so many of my fellow Americans will follow someone with charisma and empty promises like a flock of sheep and keep on bleating all the way to the slaughterhouse. Many of them will vote for him again, figuring a socialist society is better than having to think or fight and less freedom is acceptable in exchange for more security.
Obama did not win because he is black. He won because America has become a nation of sheep, a celebrity-driven society that grabs anything trendy and hangs on for dear life as long as they don't have to think, analyze or make decisions.

A long time ago, my mother (who was a conservative Democrat) said of Reagan, 'nothing but a celebrity'.
He turned out to be a pretty good leader.
We've elected a celebrity. And he acts like it. IF he was getting things done and actually helping America, the singing and glad handing would be endearing. It isn't. It is disgusting to see him act as if NOTHING is wrong when people are suffering and afraid for their futures.
I get the mental picture of Nero, fiddling while Rome burns.

I would love to believe that she not only sent it but delivered it personally. It is the gist of what many, many Americans are thinking today. What a joke our president is!

There are so many things I would say. I've actually dreamed I am given an 'audience' and the dream ends with me dragged off or gagged.

..a little humor there at the end (of the letter)
It was a very good letter, but I can't help thinking that whether it was sent or not will make absolutely no difference.. I'm sure Mrs. Obama is very proud of her husband and also herself and if she read the letter would quite easily dismiss any of its claims..

She's better at speaking than her husband.
And she almost had me sypathetic when she told the story of the little boy touching her husband's hair. BECAUSE I do understand (as best I can as a white person) the terrible struggle blacks have had in the past with obtaining basic human rights, and how black people DO CARRY that memory with them in their deepest heart of hearts.
Then she began likening 'Barack' to those who, in the Old Testament, looked forward 'in faith' to the coming of Messiah, not for physical deliverance, but to spiritual deliverance from the 'wages of sin'.
Alarm bells went off in my head. You see, the same man who wrote in Hebrews (which she referenced) that all those Old Testament saints looked forward in faith to Messiah, Jesus Christ in faith, also wrote that anti christs would come speaking great things, making false promises and claiming to be of God. (which was her intended implication, that 'Barack' is of God) But the writer of that scripture also wrote that men would puff themselves up and call evil good, and good evil and think themselves wise in doing so. And he also wrote that they would practice homosexuality and think God would not judge them for their rebellion agaisnt His law. So, I can ascertain from that, that 'Barack' is NOT of God at all, he accepts homosexuality as 'good' when God calls it 'evil'.
And every black Christian who actually reads their Bible knows all this as well if not better than I do. But then, the Bible also says a great delussion will be taught and those who are not truly seeking the truth will believe it.

I usually do not follow links in discussions. I did this one. I hope she sent it, but it may be that it will reach more people and even Michelle this way. I know that things are very wrong right now, and I am hoping to see that it will be turned around before it is too late.

She herself may not have read the actual letter, but I can almost guarantee you that the people that matter to the administration got the message.

laglen, by saying they 'got' the message, I am not implying that it changed the way they view America, I am saying that when you are in a fight, it helps to know your 'enemy'. I'm sure they're putting the info to good use against us.

I don't think it matters if she did send it. I doubt Michelle received it. She probably has staff to weed through her letters and remove those that are unfavorable as long as they're not threatening.

Hi Deb,
If the letter was sent, there is no telling that Michelle actually received it.. the letter might have been tossed out or filed for later use.. like if there were ever some plan to 'pay her back' they could maybe set her up to take the fall for something.. these people embrace terrorism from everything I've seen. They hide it fairly well from people who love him because he is the first black president. He's there in office because the consensus is that if you are against Obama you are against blacks.. not true.. just against anyone who doesn't support our country. He wants to tear it down from the inside. Michelle is a beautiful woman who gets a lot of attention. It's hard to even say anything bad about her because she seems to pure. If I were a Democrat I would probably adore her.

Isn't that scary, that our own president and government could or would harm us?
I agree with you, he was elected because people wanted to think that America's racists days were long gone, participate in a hisotrical election, and the believed him. They were ready for it. I believe the 'planning' for it went as far back as Bush's presidencey, the press made it sound so much worse, Pres. Bush sound so terrible, so people would be psychologically ready for 'hope and change' in a big way.
I would not adore her. She is very angry in every interview or picture I've seen her in. And I don't like rumors but many in Washington say she's 'very unlikeable'.
