Beware; your SIM might be cloned

Source-ONE INDIA NEWS It says, missed calls from some numbers are causing headache to subscribers now. When they call back, their phone's SIM is immediately cloned. The numbers to watch out for are the ones starting with +92, #90 and #09. If a subscriber attends the mobile phone before it starts ringing, the person on the other end pretends to be a call center staff whose job is to watch whether the connectivity and call flow is seamless. The subscriber is requested to dial #09 or #90 to contact the caller in this regard. When the subscriber does so, it leads to cloning of SIM. This enables the culprits to then utilize the information stored in the phone as also the SIM, memory and data cards. In case the culprit misuses the SIM's copy for any nefarious purpose, the subscribers land in trouble and then find it extremely difficult to prove their innocence. Telecoms operators including BSNL have already warned all the broadband users and are also issuing SMS alerts to the rest of the subscribers. As the probability of the culprits using different combination of numbers other than the aforementioned is high, ignoring calls with unusual numbers and from those people not known to us is the safest option. Also, subscribers should not store details concerning their bank account, ATM/ credit/debit card numbers and passwords in their phone memory. Today I talked to one officer of BSNL, he said, ‘you can receive the call, BUT DON’T DO WHAT THE CALLER asks you to do’. DISCLAIMER-Friends, I share what I get for benefit of all. Hope my Indian friends will find this useful. Do you store details of your bank account, ATM/ credit/debit card numbers and passwords in your phone memory; if you have please delete them . Please comment on this. Thanks in advance. Prof. Bhuwan 4th July 2012.

Hello professor. Thanks so much for sharing the information. I knew very little about this but now, I know not to alttend or call back to these numbers. If there is a missed call, never call back. If it is urgent, the person will call back, right? Good day.

Hi. I do not attend calls from unknown numbers. But in case I do get missed calls, I never ever call them back neither through my mobile nor from my landline. As I had explained, if it is very urgent or important, the person would call back, right? Thanks for the info.

Hello my friend Professor2010 Ji, Thanks, I alongwith many more are very much affected by this. I have BSNL MBL, a registered one at my home town. Two yrs back I got 'DND' service introduced. But, it is of no use, I have some numbers like, 911409807735, 91166493900, 911204904157, 91120490419, 911409807706, 911409807705 and so on. Recently I want to go to police station and lodge a complain, why at all I should get them. I nevcer respond with my MBL, at times I called some of these numbers by my LL, and to my surprise, they are not listed. It means it is a bussiness, that if I call these numbers on my own MBl, my roaming charges would benifit many companies. As a common person I have reasoned out and till I recognise I just Ignore them. Please suggest futrther. May God bless You and have a great time

Hello professor. Now-a-days the technology is developing and as well as the crime rate is also increasing. People misuse technology for their welfare. So the people has to be careful. We cannot guess that what may happen to us in the next moment. Life is a race. One pushes another to win the race. Its very difficult to live in this competitive world. Awarness should be created among the people. Robbers should be punished severely. Anyhow thanks professor for giving me information. Happy MyLotting.
