yes! i think dogs and owners have a bond and understand each other. it definitely wasnt automatic though when i got my puppy a couple of months ago, we grew to understand eachother and she grew knowing me the most, so she is definitely in tune with me. my pup (jane) now 6 mos is emotive and very aware of my family's feelings too, funny story a couple of days ago me my sis and mom were on her bed talking about something tragic and very sad when jane pops up on the side standing(wide open mouth showing her 2 canines on each side baby teeth not fallen out while new teeth there already, something spears may have sung about, and tail wagging) she sees our faces and tears from her gramma and aunt ;) and slowly closes her mouth and puts down her tail. so i call her over and make sure she doesnt think its her fault. belly rub!

I love animals in general but my No 1s are dogs. I have three, all girls. They are wonderful. My life would be terribly empty without them. I get home and Mila (my moscow guard dog) runs to greet me jumping up, running around and trying to kiss me, demanding hugs. She actually expects everyone of the family to hug her many times a day. Fig (an airedale terrier) is 6 years old now, but behaves like a puppy, wanting to play all the time chasing mice, birds. Bonnie (a central asian shepherd) is an angry-bunny, growling and barking at everything: birds, chickens, airplanes, fireworks even the thunder. They are my sanctuary from all the bad stuff that happen in this world.

I always know what my dogs are feeling because they are so expressive. It's almost funny sometimes when I have to leave them in the house while I go out because they refuse to look at me like they're thinking I'm a traitor for leaving them behind. I always spend time with them before I leave, cuddle them, talk to them, and let them know that they have a very important job while I'm gone, to watch over the house and protect it. I know that they have no idea what I'm talking about but it makes me feel better to do it. lol I can tell when my dogs are sad, when they're not feeling well, when they want to be left alone, everything. I have two Maltese dogs and they are no good at hiding their emotions. The thing I like most is that they are also able to understand MY feelings. When I'm sad, they are always beside me, trying to give me kisses and cuddle with me. In a lot of ways, I think dogs are better than humans sometimes.

well said mentalward, since they are the man;s best friends and always wait for our love and when we care for it the most,it plays back and enjoys our move.you must always allocate time for dogs and make them happy for sure then life will be superb for both of us

hi, of course we cant understand what they say if they bark to us because we dont understand that, but through feelings they have shown we can know what they wanted to tell to us,sometimes they cry if they hurt or if they are hungry.i also know if there are happy or not.

I think both owner and dog can have a wonderful bonding relationship that can help each other to know the feelings of each other. If you as the owner is observant enough you can tell when your dog is happy and when they are not.
