Why Thank Me

@p1kef1sh (45681)

Today I received an email telling me that the discussion under which I have posted a comment had been deleted. The site then thanked me for using them. Why thank me if you don't think that the topic was worthy of discussion? What are you thanking me for? Clearly I have exercised a lack of judgement by contributing to a discussion that in the eyes of the site's moderators is not worthy to grace the boards. Therefore every responder, unless they are objecting to the discussion, is as guilty as the original poster. Have you had a discussion deleted, or a comment removed recently? If you how do you feel that you've been treated unfairly?

Haahaa I never took much notice of that, I see the title come up in my inbox and just delete it. I don't care what discussion they've deleted because as you said obviously it was poor judgement from me to even bother replying to such a discussion. Maybe it should say, "Thank you for wasting your valuable time on MyLot"

I had my first discussion deleted very recently, which really p1$$ed me off if I'm honest. The discussion was new to me and I hadn't seen any of my friends post something similar in all the years I've been a member here, yet it was deemed a repeat discussion. Of course, upon searching, I came upon a number which were similar. So why mine? On a site this large, with as many members as there are, there is bound to be duplication. After all, a certain amount of life experiences are repeated in every household all over the world. Bah humbug. I think I've only been on myLot a handful of times since.

I am not necessarily taking about this site Gabs. But I have certainly felt the irritation of having a discussion deleted. XXXX

Those are the only notifications I get these days... You realize, of course, that they might delete this one under the guise of being an "individual issue with myLot".

I don't see why. I have not specified which site that I was thanked by. People are simply making an assumption that it this one.

hi,i have stopped bothering about it altogether.Yes, a few discussions to which i had responded were deleted. The wise men who make up the mod dept seem to have their own criteria and i have seen some very harmless discussions being deleted.I think its time we all grew thick skins and let those guys do whatever they want. And its all for a few pennies which even beggars nowadays would refuse to take.

I agree with most of what you said I'm. But my point is about why use platitudes; there is no need to thank us for things.

but why not read the guidelines and check to see if discussions have broken a guideline rule I do it and have less responses lost because I did that.

I guess it is probably because "Thank you for using this site" sounds much better than "Next time us your brain a little more and exercise better judgement when using this site, stupid".

But who are they to tell me whether I am bonkers or not? Maybe discussions should be moderated before they are put up?

hi purplealabaster he he right on sort of my advice to self, KISS keep it simple stupid and it works for me lol ll yes if they said that to us we would be sounding off."wah, they called me stupid" and really if we do not look closely at the discussions and notice two things is it polling us and are there no responses as at times we do know a discussion will be deleted and we do not respond. so KISS EVERY ONE KISS and you will get fewer thing deleted here.KISS meaning keep things simple stupid. other words do learn how to detect rule breaking discussions, the dos and donts are in the GUIDELINES

Maybe they thank you because that's their way of saying that you haven't done anything wrong so they appreciate that you have participated. I haven't had anything deleted recently but I have had comments on some of my discussions deleted and discussions on which I have commented. I don't know if it's unfair sometimes because I don't always know what it is that has been deleted. That's the thing I don't like. For example, there was a comment deleted from a discussion of mine a while ago. Someone in real life did tell me what it had said but I wouldn't have known otherwise. Then there have been a few discussions where I have had the email saying that a discussion on which I had commented had been deleted. They never say why. I mean, I know they say that it's violated terms or whatever but they don't give a proper reason. Apart from that, though, I wouldn't mind knowing what the discussions are which have been deleted. It is frustrating to have stuff deleted but to not even know what it is, that's annoying. How can you know if it's unfair if they don't tell you what the discussion/comment was. I don't suppose everyone remembers everything to which they have responded.

I think that your first paragraph is the reason. It just seems a tad bizarre to me.

Why wouldn't they thank you? Instead of just saying "no points for you", they're letting you know that they appreciate your usage of the site. Not every discussion looks like a violation to us, even though they think it is. The fact that you responded to it means you want to use the site. It's been a while since I had a comment removed (unless I have a notification in my email that I haven't seen yet). Sometimes I've been disappointed and other times I've wondered how the discussion was a violation. There are a few times that I've commented on discussions that I know will probably be deleted just to let the person who posted them know I saw them (even if deleted, we still get the notifications). But, I honestly don't remember if I've had a discussion deleted.

It falls under the same heading as "Have a nice day" to my mind Jerz. A platitude.

Perhaps it does, but I think it also falls under the heading "manners". I'd rather they thanked me for participating than simply telling me they took my points away. "Dear user - the discussion you commented on was deleted. We took your points back. The end." The other is simply polite.

Yes my some posts deleted because the 0riginal discussions were deleted. I also received thanks for using mylot. I think the organizers do not want to discourage me. Actually I don't understand the guidelines . It should be explained clearly.

Yes, I've responded to discussions that were then deleted. Despite putting thought and effort into replying to a discussion, hoping for further dialog, instead it's like having a door slammed into your face. I guess, the only satisfaction to be had, is in knowing that we're keeping the 'delete' button well dusted.

Oh yes, I got a few of those emails today too. Mostly from commenting on the discussions of a certain young sheep, but also one on homosexual behaviour which I am not sure why got deleted. I think I was definitely ripped off there. I was also wronged greatly today as I got too many red lights on my way home. I felt betrayed, dismayed, and all sorts of other negative thoughts ending in ayed.

Usually we don't pay attention to all the details. We know that they say "thank you" at the end of all the emails and we don't ask why they do this when this is not a good news. Yes, sometimes the discussion has breaked the guidelines. But they are not so clear, sometimes it's not easy to notice that the problem. And what to say about cases when the inappropriate comments have been made after your response? The good thing for me is that I earn just a little money here, so don't care about the lost earnings .

the word of "thank you" only work as formality greeting on it. as the member we know always there is possibility to have our discussion and response deleted due to particular reason. the point is mylot always telling us why they deleted our discussion, or it means our discussion won't deleted without any reason. we can't check anytime that we already made discussion with the same topic that other member create nor response discussion that contain duplication. I never mind with that. Mylot admin had done the good job

I am a new user of this website.I don't think a comment should be deleted unless it's disconnected to the topic or it's illegal.Everyone has a saying in this site, and that's why I come here. Also,I strongly supposed that we all need to respond carefully and wisely.

Personally, I think we have all been there a time or two, and being a member here it is just something bound to happen many times wondering why. I often wonder what their decision is when they remove one, especially not against the TOS, but you never know... and why Thank us for being a member here if it is deleted? Can often be quite frustrating for sure... Especially for the New people coming in.

Platitudes are such cliches! lol Perhaps the algorithm that sends out deletion notices was programmed to be overly polite, and as is often such the case, is merely annoying instead...........

okay once more. I had a comment deleted because the response to my own discussion was irrelevant.okay so why tell me to go read the guidelines? it was not my irrelevant comment but the responders irrelevant response. this gets me why bawl us out for some silly response they did not like as it was not my response, it was my discussion and my comment.grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.not fair.Yesw I think it is silly thanking us under those conditions too.

It had happened to me many times. One of the discusions deleted was "which weird ice cream flavour would you like to be made true?" I dont know why it was deleted, I said I'd like to taste something really sweet like cupcake flavour. Then the thread got deleted for some reason I don't know, if someone said innapropiate things they should delete just the answer not the whole topic.

In the past one week more that 30 of my responses has been deleted as the discussion has been deleted and every time the last time is "Thank you for using myLot!##". Hence I have started posting to responses which are old. Such that there is no chance of loosing the post. :D
