Why Didn't You Tell Me?

We are struggling to keep cool in the heat this summer since my a/c isn't really working all that well. One of the things that we've been doing is wetting a wash cloth with cold water and laying it on our forehead or wiping it on our faces. Well, that stopped being enough when the temps hit near 100 degrees so I came up with an idea. I told my daughter to take my wash cloth, wet it and put it in the freezer. Naturally, when we use these wet wash cloths we fold them to fit our foreheads so I didn't think anything of it when I told my daughter to put it in the freezer. Well, she didn't fold it before freezing it and came to me with this stiff, frozen wash cloth all flat! Have you ever tried to fold a frozen wash cloth? I told her you need to fold them BEFORE you freeze them! She asked, "Why didn't you tell me?" Of course, my response was, "I didn't think I would have to!"

Probably about the time you learn to think of these things, yourself. Also, now that I think of it, if I do tell you, you say, "I KNOW!" like I shouldn't be telling you such simple, obvious things.

oh friend you really are innovative and funny in a jolly way. I have a suggestion, why not hung those frozen clothes in the electric fan using a hanger (so it would be away from the motor) and turn it on full blast!hahaha.., just put something like a bucket under to catch all the drip. Take it from me, the hot climate expert haha... If she did not fold it before freezing then why not freeze the clothes with like a mold and wear it afterwards, that outta keep you cool.

i was thinking that it might have broken in half. believe it or not, i have heard of when people used to dry all their clothes outside year round a long time ago, they had to be careful in the winter that the frozen laundry they brought in from outside wouldnt snap in half! lol!

LOL...yes, it was tricky getting it folded without breaking it. Now she knows better and folds them before freezing them!

Living in Puerto Rico year round what I tend to do when its 100 degrees or more is wet a bandana then put a roll of ice cubes in the middle and then tie it around my neck. It is so cooling with the ice melting down the back. It also tends to last a long time. Once the ice is melted I do it again if I need too. Good luck in keeping cool this summer. It's beginning to look like its going to be a long hot summer.

That is also a good idea. Thanks for the tip. We don't move around much in the heat so rather than have the ice melting in my bed, I'll stick with the frozen wash cloths.

Sometimes what we think would be a sensible resoonse to a situation isnt the same to someone else. if you want to be sure of a certain result, explain it even if you think you should not have to. Having children myself i can understand what you go through. i hope you can get some relief from the heat soon so you will not to rely on a frozen washcloth anymore.

The funny thing is that my daughter isn't a child anymore...she's 18 and should be able to think of these things herself, she's lived with me long enough. It just made sense to me but noooo...she is still a teenager, I guess.

Yes, it has been unbearably hot here. I just had to laugh when she brought me that stiff wash cloth and I had to try and fold it, frozen. This is something new we are doing to keep cool until my new air cooler arrives. I just had the bright idea to freeze the cloths after using just water to cool off for several days.
