Well people in the USA and Canada expect the prices to go up on crops and meat in the USA and Canada, 5 states have lost all their crops, and Ontario farmers in Canada are losing theirs.
It is the worse year from crops in Ontario
This summer heat is couple with lack of rain which is drying the crops out. Even the meat will be more expensive because the animals eat the crop.
This is the first time I heard of the waters being low in Quebec. Some boats will be permanently docked because the water is not high enough to sail them.
Any thoughts?

It is sad, the crops were doing so well. They were able to get them in early, and they looked so good. It is really bad.

The lakes here have been very low. Everything is so expensive here. The packaging of stuff is made smaller. Like oatmeal which was one price for 18 ounces is now the same price for fewer ounces. The public never notices too much because they don't factor in they are buying less.

I know they have been doing that here too but what I am talking about is very recent because of the this incredible hot summer which by the way is listed as the hottest summer in US recorded history, anyhow this new high prices has not even hit us yet because it is still crop season and when the crops are low because of too much heat and no rain we are going to be hit badly again,

I heard this on the news too. Hubby and I eat a lot of stuff like nacho chips (homemade from the maret) Grits (American friends send them up to us) and corn on the cob, which I just reminded Waler to get at the Farmer's Market. :) YUmmy!!! wish I'd have remembered to tell him this morning. Market's only open on Saturday!

yep everything is going to be so expensive but I guess we are used to that, the prices are always going up for one reason or another.

I think we're all in for a doozy of a price hike in everything. There's no winning in this situation unless we can get some rain and a substantial amount soon. We got a small shower lasting about an hour yesterday, the first rain in a month!! We got the same amount previously in June and that's it. May was fine but the past nearly 2 months next to nothing.

I'm in WI, we are at a severe drought level in the lower 1/3, the middle third is moderate.

My food supply is tied to how the local crops fare. We have a CSA share and shop the local farmers' markets. The CSA price is fixed; we have already paid on it. The question with that, should our summer be so severe as to adversely affect the crops, is not price but, rather, the quantity and quality of food that will be available to us throughout the season via our share.

yes that certainly will be a major concern as well, food will be short for everyone because there is less of a supply to fall back on. For the rest of us that drives up the prices.

hi winterose s outhern California has had few hot days yet even
though its July but we also have not had any rain here. At this rate fall promises to be a bad fire season as the forests are tinder dry; arsonists pop out from under rocks to start wild fires not caring all the damage they cause, hundreds of homes destroyed. livestock killed ,wild animals killed. as for crops I have not heard that northern Calif. has any problem with its crops
this
year at all.
this
year at all.

I didn;t catch the five worst States, I personally would have guessed California because much of California lacks water in normal conditions, but I don't know all I know is that the corn producing states are doing really bad,.
They say this is the hottest summer in US recorded history.

Ya, and Obama is trying to start problems with our water and power here in U.S. It never ends. Its either the heat and lack of rain or too cold and the crops freeze. I think this is only the beginning. People in government poo pooed when one ex Vice president did a docudrama(heehee) on just what was happening around the world. To be honest i feel sorry for my daughter and her kids that go on after I am gone. It will only get worse. Extreme weather, gas prices, food prices and lack there of, government acting like idiots, etc.

Oh yes this heat is something else this year and I know so many places are in need of just a good ole downpour for a little bit. I know here in PA that it will look like rain and say it is going to rain on the weather and it either doesn't do anything or it will sprinkle for a few minutes and that is all and it is definitely not enough to water any plants or crops. So many of the yards are burned and dried from no rain you can just hear the grass crunching under your feet. I know we are hoping for some rain to water our plants because while the watering hose works good we feel like the rain water really makes the plants grow a bit better.
