a small child

We had a visit with my Brother's Son and his family, we have not seen them in about 4 years. They are large people and they have a very small child. This beautiful little girl is almost 2 and looks more like 14 months. Mom said she is perfectly healthy and meantally ahead of her age group. This family has genealogy back to the Philippines, where this child's Grandmother came from. Now her Grandmother is small but certianly not under 5 feet so I wonder where this child has gotten her DNA from. I do know that people from the Philippines are as varied as people here in the USA so there are many combinations. Maybe when she gets alittle older they will run a DNA test on her to see where she gets these small genes. If they did that they would at least be relieved that she has no hidden illness that is causing this. Anyway I have faith that her parents have good sense and will raise her to be the charming person she shows she could be with no regard to her height.

savvypat: The height of the child at 2 years is important but I have seen my relative -- he was short -- in fact he was called in tamil as "kullan" (meaning short boy)-- after his 18th year or so he became tall. The child has to be given necessary food, clothing, shelter and affection and proper direction for it to face its life.

Hello savypat. I have a granddaughter that was very tiny when she was about twp and I was worried about her. When she was about a year old and cried you would think she was a very poor starving little waif. Her mother was small for a long time as a young child. She is rather tall and big now and the granddaughter is also at least over 5ft.5in tall so the size of babies can't tell you any thing. Nor I or her father have very short people in the family.

I hope they will find out about it all I only hope that she will never be bullied about her Height as that would be so sad

I hope it is just an inherited petiteness. I have a friend whose granddaughter is exceptionally small and she is undergoing some testing trying to determine if there is something wrong that is making her that small.

Hi savypat, The child is young and things may change but since she is a bright child she should do fine anyway. Let's hope that the parents don't say anything in her presence that would cause her to feel that she is somehow 'different' because of her height and size. Blessings.

The genes varies into type of passing on: recessive or dominant. Recessive genes are based on the family tree, could be from grandparents or great grandparents; on the other hand, Dominant genes are visible from the parents.
