My Dad Found Me A Used Mixer

He called me to go to the kitchen and I didn't know what he wanted, then saw he had a used mixer in his hand. He said he bought it at a estate sale awhile ago and went to put it on eBay and it never sold. So he gave it to me. My mixer broke a month or so ago and I've been going mixer-less since. Now I have one again, woohoo. The only thing is I won't be able to use one fro awhile as I'm having this darn surgery tomorrow and will be down for about 4-6 weeks. I'm just going to see how it goes, but the summer is when I least like to bake. It makes the house even hotter usually! Now I can at least use it after I start to feel better without having to pay another $25+ for a new one. I just hope it lasts alittle while at least. I used their old one they got for their wedding anniversary (over 45 years ago) for like 35 years and it just broke, mom never used mixers and doesn't like to bake. Isn't that a long time to use an appliance without it needing to be fixed?

That was a good mixer. Lasting for ten years is good for a product now days. Things doen't last like that anymore. Baking is brutal during the Summer. I try to get groceries that we don't have to cook. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow. I hope all goes well and you heal quickly.

I don't think it's really unheard of to use an old appliance for a long time without having to fix or replace it. A new one is a little bit different. Years ago, things were built to last because people didn't really have the money to replace them. But anymore it seems so much of everything you buy is built to be disposable. Even (or maybe especially) the expensive things.
