Why does a travel agent offer trips to usual destinations?

Today I had a chat to a travel agent and we were talking about different flight destinations and airlines. I told her about some very cheap flights I had got a few years ago on First Choice Airlines and I had trips around the Maldives and Central America. I said that I had been to the Seychelles on the Air Kenya. I wished to visit Mauritius but the cost would be way too much. She said a few years ago it was cheap to go to the usual destinations like Spain and Greece but now prices are much higher. I told her about my trip to the Caribbean coastline of Colombia. She thinks all of Colombia is very dangerous but it is not. They offer packages to Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Cyrus mainly. I wonder why they don't offer more exciting trips. Why do you think this is?

I think that airlines and travel agencies have to do what the mayority likes. Any unusual trip is more expensive. As to what travel agencies call dangerous, it has a lot to do with what the media tells them. They repeat that without bothering to check. I have been in Colombia and in Mexico alone and I have not had any problem. But everywhere in the world you can have a bad experience.

Thanks for your excellent response my dear friend. You make some very valid points. If the media say it is dangerous to go to a particular country and the travel agency will drop them from the brochures. I look at the country up to date notes from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. They mentioned a shoot out at a restaurant in a place I visited by day trip from Santa Martha. Two tourists got mugged by gunpoint in Santa Martha in the day time. I still went there. The travel agency offers vacations to Cancun. Yes, anywhere there can a problem. I learned that in the Maldives and stayed safe in Colombia, Mexico and Nairobi in Kenya.

I'm not sure why they do that either. It looks like they would offer things that would people would be more interested in.

Yes, the majority and mainstream idea people. Many people have a low budget and can just afford a two week vacation to Spain.

Sometimes I also wonder why most travel agencies don't offer trips to unusual destinations. I guess it is because it is too hard to sell packages to unusual destinations. Many people want to visit wellknown or popular destinations and many travel agencies offer trips to the same destinations. Some time ago I was surfing the internet and I found a travel agency that offers trip to Papua New Guinea. I was surpriced to see that, because most of the other travel agencies focus on Spain, Greece, Turkey, Thailand and the other popular countries. If I had my own travel agency I would specialize in trips to unusual destinations
