Is it possible for a topic from years ago to be get deleted?

I responded to a topic that was here for 2 years and has been responded to by other members. I didn't think it could still get deleted, because again, it's been here for some time. Has this happened to you? It doesn't make sense at all.

There are some very good discussions from two, three, or even more years ago, and if you respond to one, it should not be deleted. However, as Lamb says, if the discussion violates the guidelines, responding brings it to the forefront, and it's likely to get reported and deleted. The thing is, those of us who have been here for a long time are getting fed up of seeing plagiarised discussions and guideline violations. We come here for intelligent discussion, and to learn from others and pass on our own knowledge. It kind of sticks in your throat when you see a lot of rubbish, so we;re probably hot on reporting now, and things that may have slipped through a year or two ago now get the thumbs-down treatment.

jureathome a lot of older discussions could have brokent mylot do nots as the rules had changed several times. mylot admins cannot be everywhere all the time so they do miss things. itf they saw an old discussion being resurrected with new responses and it broke one of the rules we now have yes it would be deleted.the admins says it needs help and for us to let them know if we see a discussion that has broken a mylot rules.it does make sense if you have ever bothered to read the g uidelines at all.the i nfo is'there now.

I do know about the guidelines, but it didn't cross my mind that even older discussions could still get deleted. I mean, the fact that it has stayed there for such a long time. I just wasn't expecting this. I have been responding to a few older discussions before and none got deleted. So, it must be the topic. And, well, probably that was just among those that myLot missed out --- afterall, they're also just humans.

Yeah Hatley, everyone here having the responsibly to let the admin know post that violate the discussion guidelines so as to keep this site healthy and stable. I agree that only well read the discussion guidelines would avoid to join in posts that against the regulation. Hi jureathome, a discussion being deleted or not totally depends on whether it violates the discussion guidelines or not. It doesn't matter whether it's old or new. Both old and new having the same fate to be deleted if the invalid content is being reported.

Hi jureathome, an ages old rejuvenated topic would face the fate to be deleted if, the content really violates myLot guidelines. Or it may not be deleted as well, if there isn't any responsible user noticed the invalid post and makes a report then. Only quality discussions that do not violate guidelines will last long forever. To prevent post to be deleted we have to read the discussion guidelines thoroughly with patient. I did participate in old discussions that were deleted earlier. Yeah, when I was new here I didn't read the guidelines carefully Happy posting and have a nice day

Why does everyone think I haven't read the guidelines. I certainly know about the rule on deletions and removal of posts if it so violated the "guidelines". But, what didn't occur to me, was that a "guideline" may not be followed and imposed until after 2 years. I hope you get my point of asking the question on this topic.

jureathome i have had no such experience. A topic which has been there for quite some time with guideline violations --may be deleted after the violations are reported. it is sad that such a thing should happen for a topic more than two years old.

Normally I have in my mind 2% to 5% deletions whenever I post responses or start discussions. It is because knowingly or unknowingly sometimes there may be some violations like repetition of ideas etc. This is part and parcel of this exercise. have a good day.

This is totally another lesson learned for me. It was just unexpected for such long time topic to have only been reported and removed this time. I had just thought that it was a safe ball. But, NOT!

True, very unlikely, but it happened and it ought to be.

Hello Jure, Why not it be deleted?.It will be deleted if someone reports it to admin and if admin finds it violating the guidelines but it doesn't matter because most of the res-ponders would have got the money for their responses.

That's the thing.. I mean if it did violate the guidelines, why only after years of existence would it be deleted. But I realized that the deletion process is manually done, and that's where the loophole is.

It is exactly as answered by the previous responder. Answering an old discussion will make people especially the mylot moderators noticing it. If there is some ill minded people report that discussion which sounds a bit like some other discussions, then it may get removed. Some of my post got removed too even though not exactly the same with other discussions. People should really make sure they only report discussions that really do violate the terms and conditions.

The people who report violations are not "ill-minded"! They are responsable people doing exactly what mylot ask of them and are trying to keep this site the way it has been kept for all these years - a healthy paying site! If more people understood what the word 'comunity' signifies then they might get on better here

If the discussions are reported it does NOT mean they will automatically be deleted. If they are removed it was because admin saw a valid reason why it should no longer stay. If a discussion starter feels that a topic was wrongly deleted then they, and only they, can contact admin, even if the topic was an old one.

However, if these discussions got reported, and the owners would reason why it shouldn't be deleted, do they respond to that, too? I mean, some discussions may be worth keeping, but its just how the title is written. Like, I had a topic before which I believe wasn't of a poll-type nature, but I think it was with how the title was phrased that made it look like one, and it got removed, somehow. I was new then, and I didn't bother to email myLot about it.

Yes, I have that happened to me many times. Mylot will send me a message notification that one of my replies to a discussion has been deleted. Apparently the discussion writer have violated some of the rules set up by Mylot so the discussion and all the replies written under it was deleted too.
