Okay, Some how some way we all have been affected by this. It is one of those things known in the early days in the south that families just don't talk about, Be it depression, anxiety or schizophrenia the disease is real and millions suffer from it. It saddens me that no one has taken the time to study this illness as they would cancer or HIV. This illness takes over your life, When suffering from it, you can't function as you normally would. It seems to me instead of getting to the root cause of the problem Doctors today over medicate the patients so much to the fact that they are just silence. The problem is still there and if the patients goes a day or two without meds all hell breaks out I just can't wait until the day this illness is taken more seriously and patients receive proper care

I think thst you are very wrong, ladyhill. Neurology has made considerble advances in these last 50 years ans the meds have changed alot so now they have less side effects. Just remember that not so many years ago, electro shock was a common practice to treat a lot of mental illness. We are now talking about neurotransmiters and synapsis. It`s just that the media find some illness more "interesting". Not so either scientists nor doctors.

Health and research are still the learning process to cure illnesses like this. Some has theories, to combat the diseases. In the long run, it will come in due time.

It is true that mental patients face highly awkward situation in every sphere of life. In the name of treatment they have undergo lengthy trial and error process and being ridiculed in social life too. Mental illness is such a problem that the sick person is unable to express exact reason behind his illness. Even if he can express cause of his illness, medics can't rely. In case of cancer/AIDS etc, patients can almost correctly discuss about their problems. However, the situation for mentally sick persons is altogether different. Identifying the root cause of mental illness is a highly difficult and sophisticated job. Considering the agony of such patients, it is imperative that medical science explore methods to easily pin-point root cause illness without inflicting further mental strains on the patient. Hopefully, such methods will be found soon and mentally ill patients will be taken care of in much delicate way.

Oh definitely yes. This is something eating us from within. Since these have been so common in our lives, we do not feel it as disease anymore, infact we haven't any day. These should be paid equal attention as we do for our hygiene and surroundings. These have a very simple origin but give birth to a number of problems. We should pay some attention over this getting prevented rather than just cured.
