Predictions, prophecies and real life.

I have heard many times here about predictions in the Bible or in the sacred book of the Mayas about the end of the world. The Bible is not a book to be read lightly.and it´s meaning is far more deep than what we can ever understand. It seems that the Maya believed civilization went through predictable cycles. That sounds a lot more reasonable than just an end like a Hollywood second rate picture. Global warming means changes, technology means changes, we could name thousands. We are alive now, with the capacity to shape our mortal destiny. Why don´t we use our energy in that way instead of predicting doom or evading reality? I know it is hard to face reality and easy to evade it. Let us try it. What do you feel about this subject?

I agree that there have been a lot of changes and that we should do something to shape our destiny. It just seems like so many times people will just take information from sources and predict gloom and doom instead of trying to do something about it. We should definitely do something about the world as we know it or it could be, like the song says, "the end of the world as we know it". Thanks for the new perspective!

We may each be no more than a small ant, but if many small ants attack a meal at a picnic, it will soon be gone! Change does have to start somewhere and if we can be the instrument of change then we are showing our true strength. It is nice to know that others take after you as far as planting veggies in their gardens because you did. Even a small change like that can be the start of something good! Thanks for sharing!

I have always thought that it`s high time that us, ants, get together to share the picnic of a decent life instead of letting a few tell us what to do. It hurts me to know that 2 billon people are undernourished while there`s enough food on Earth to go around.

I am aware that each of us is no more than a small ant, Deb. But yet, I think that we have the capacity to make small changes and show others by our example. I feel very happy that several of my friends are planting some veggies in their gardens just because I did. And last year, my Winter homegrown veggies made all the difference in my diet. Even these conversations we have here are so important: we get to know people and we realise we are all the same, no matter what our race, creed or culture.

Well , there are some incredible things at the bible if looking in it and reading the letters in other orders. A computer program was fed with the bible letters and an algorithm could search for words according to some patterns and not only the straight forward reading. There were some words from the same context close to each other and on the same page. Hey , one person who investigated it , tried to warn our prime minister about a possible assassination and was ignored but the assassination happened to that prime minister.
It is hard to tell according to the bible what will happen in the future but it gives us an opportunity to think about the future , try to shape it together as we want , and maybe think about things that we don't want and prevent them.

I think that we must think about the present and the future, whether we read the Bible or other sacred book or not. Sometimes life is a powerful book that will make us think about how we have lived and how do we want to live from the present on.

I sometimes wonder that too and don`t understand why power goes along so many times with lack of respect for others. Maybe the normal, common people, should stop letting others tell them what to do and how to act.

You are right , that's why they teach history all over the world. That the book of life that you have just said.
I just don't understand why the history repeats itself when it comes to bad things: killing many people , hating others , radicals of any religion...
Why doesn't the humanity learn from the history and act differently ?
It's like we are afraid of good reality where everyone is nice and lives in peace with all...

Whenever I face reality I think it is soon time for me to lose everything. See I'm a pessimist. I never thought I was Suppose to be this happy in the first place so I am Still wauting for Everything to be taken away. Please don't tell my guyt. He is my polar opposite in this. He is trying to keep me hopeful but... sometimes it doesn't work. So predicting doom is nothing new to me. Whwn they said the Maya said the world would end in December I thought Ok. A good time. I'll miss the next Stanley Cup but all my dreams that could come true Have come true.

I have been blessed to see my favorite team hoist the Cup 4 times! I am not so sure I will be here next spring but that is ok. All the dreams that could come true have come true.

Don´t worry, friend. You will not miss the next Stanley Cup
. Last year I had no idea if I would ever be able to go for a vacation again in my life. The rest of my life looked ahead like lots of big tests, fights with health insurances and chemo with complete hair loss (to begin with). Now I´m coming back from a 2 week trip to St. Maarten, full of sun and happiness. There´s alway a bend on the road. I hope your team wins

I tend to believe that the bible is a source that we are able to trust more than believing the prophecies of the Mayan civilization. With that said, the bible does say that no man will know when the end of the world is going to come. With that said, all of this talk about December of this year is something that I don't give a lot of credibility to. Instead, I tend to think that there might be something that does happen on that date that will change the way that all people look at the world and at our lives.

I don`t think there is any way we can know what will happen in the future, meaning that we can hardly predict our own future, let alone the future of all mankind.

How can we prepared for the end of the world? What does the end of the world mean? I am hardly prepared for the next day. Today I had to check three times the weather out to decide what clothes I should wear. Today I was planning on taking my mom to the doctor after lunch and then have a nice nap (end of the day for me). A dear friend called me and said she`d come to spend the rest of the evening with me

Why is god threatening us,to end the world?
Why people are accepting his dominance when they can't accept hitler's or saddam's?
They also produced and killed people, just like the god does.
When will his autocracy end?If I was God,I would have established democracy!CHANGE!!!
God should be custom made,he should never impose his will on us.
God grant us our free will,we don't want your script written on our head.

Who told you that God was threatening to end the world? Only if you create a God that is evil, you will have him (her?, it?) think of a world end. Killing for no reason is something that few creatures besides human people do. And many use pompous words uch as "freedom" to kill and terrorise.
Let us each lead a life with respect and understanding for diversity and maybe we (not a God) will create a better world.

This is a good subject may be some sectors[of people]prefer to live on the prediction of doom to ignore reality when others just go about their business of living and shaping a good future with what we have at hand...the here and now is important to shape a good future...I guess people our age have the privilege to see the advance of technology which can do good[ and bad in the wrong hands]but if we use it in the right way I think humanity has a great chance to cope the predicted cycles our earth have to go through.

I agree with you. Unfortunatly, technology has always been ahead of ethics. Alfred Nobel, the creator of dynamite, gave his fortune for prizes that would be for (not against) human beings. Unfortunatly, sometimes those prizes are given for political reason. Such are we, human beings
