Well, I just did last Saturday when we brought our dog to the veterinarian. We only complained about our dog having cough. the Vet immediately asserted it may be a kennel cough because it is rampant nowadays with dogs. It can make them lose their appetite, and the worse, make them weak and kill them. We already noticed her not eating the normal way. We were afraid she might get weak. We were also afraid because she also had experienced collapsing because of cough before. But it was not a kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious so they should be isolated or immunized with proper vaccine. We do not have any choice, we agreed to let our dog be confined in his clinic to avoid our other dogs to get the sickness too. She should stay there for 7-8 days to complete the medications - antibiotics, cough suppresant and anti-inflamatory for the lungs. It's just too sad to see her being left behind. I saw her facial expression like asking me "why do you need to leave me here?" He kept on jumping towards me like telling me "please don't leave me!" My mom and I were teary-eyed when we left the clinic. It was so sad especially for my mom because she's used to be with each of them everyday. Hope she'll get well very very soon...

I am sorry to hear your dog got kennel cough. In my country, there is a vaccine puppies have when they get their immunity shots. This should keep them away from getting kennel cough. I think your dog will be very sad during those 7-8 days without you. Can't you go and visit her during all this time? This could ease her suffering, maybe.

Have you asked the vets about the Kennel Cough vaccine? Maybe it is not too late for her to have that shot and be protected against this disease for future. I am sure it is less costly to give her a shot now instead of risking to pay for another treatment against Kennel Cough.

I hope that your dog will get well soon. I know what kennel cough is, because my parents' dog also started coughing. They took her to the vet and like in your case the vet immediately said that it was kennel cough. My parents' dog received treatment and she was cured completely. I think it is very important that your dog gets treatment and with the right treatment she can get ret rid of the illness and get well again so you definately did the right thing by leaving her at the clinic. It is so hard to leave a pet, and you just want take to the pet with you. I have many tried it a couple of times as I have many pets and I always feel bad about it, but sometimes it is neccesary to do it anyway.
