I hate being a cashier sometimes

A lot of people here know that I am a cashier. Sometimes I really hate it while other times I feel rewarded. Sometimes I see people I haven't seen in years, while other times I meet new and intersting people. Sometimes I treat people like crap and sometimes I'm on the receiving end. I guess that's why I hate it because we all have bad days and sometimes we take it out on the wrong people... I KNOW I am guilty of this, I've done it here and regret it... I hate being on the receiving end, too.. I just wish we could all say "let me take a second to calm down before I say something I could regret" Sometimes while working that isn't possible...

I was a cashier for a long time (5+ years), myself. But I actually enjoyed my job, most of the time. Most of my customers were repeat customers and we built up a rapport. Lots of joking and silliness at my register, many of them even gave me cards or presents when I got married, and I got 'good-bye' cards from them when I left. It was a lot easier to be in a good mood at work when I knew I was going to be treated like a human being, not a pack mule.

When I wrote this discussion I had been having a bad time at work, this has since changed. I only work certain shifts now and see all the same people, though I did seem to see all the same people regardless. I even have customers whom come on days when either myself or another cashier will be there only. I'm in a job that sometimes I want to leave, but a lot of times I don't.

It is hard to keep emotions in check all the time and being a cashier, I can see how you would be on both sides. I used to love working with people like that but I remember having some grumpy people come in..lol. I always tried to stay positive but we can't always do that. I think the worse ones were the ones that were in a hurry and would come when the place was the busiest..lol.

Yeah! Those people expect you to hurry. I try to hurry especially if I know it's a mom needing to get her kids, but if she's just late for work? Uhm sorry sweetheart you shoulda come in earlier! Lol. No that doesn't mean I won't try to hurry but if I can't because of a price check, or needing an over ride, I just can't. I can't hurry other people, especially when it's busy. I do have customers I ADORE! They treat me right, they understand and they love to talk.. THose are my favorite.

Well, it really seems no matter what type of job a person has, there are the Good and the Bad. Many times I miss being a Cashier and working with the general public especially when I worked at a convenience store and seen a lot of the same people all the time. I can honestly say being a call taker and answering phones and inputting information for people wanting cabs has it's good and bad days as well.

Working in PR area is not an easy task. You must leave all your personal problems a side and still not enough ... the ones you interact very easyly may be or become annoying , disturbing, unbearable. But .. that's the life, that's the job and show must go on ..

I totally understand how you feel. Up until 6 years ago I was a cashier as well. I started working when I was abut 16 years old so I've met all types of people over the years. For the most part my customers were always nice, polite & understanding that sometimes my job as a cashier isn't always easy. But then there are those other customers who don't care about what kind of day you might be having or that your not trying t be mean but there are rules that each store we work for that we as the employees must follow or it could cost us our job. It's these customers that can put you in a bad mood even when you start the day out in a good mood. So believe me I do understand how you feel.

I hate those days, but I do like it when one of my favorite customers comes in and turns it around for me. I mean I try to understand, I try to be on both sides but I find I'm more comfortable being on both sides when I'm the customer and not the cashier. When I'm the customer wherever I go I try to ask "how are you doing today?" etc to brighten their day.

I know what you feel. Well, we are only human and we are not perfect. I have also experienced this. Sometimes, I do not mean what I say. And I just said it because I was not in my best mood. This is normal. I bet everyone has already experienced this. If they haven't, well I guess they are perfect then! Have a nice day! Happy mylotting.

hi SomeCowgirl...the things about imposing our bad days on others is that it is not always a good thing..sometimes it is easiy detered but then other times, it can get out of hand and cause to much unnecessary drama...I am not one of those people who believes the customer is always right.. But we are human beings and some people just push the wrong button at the wrong time...lol... Good Luck!!!!!!

Hi friend, good to know that you are a cashier, most of the people will love this job, as it deals with the money. Each and every job is having its own pros and cons, some times we like our jobs and some times we hate it due to the situation, whatever it is, our job is our source of income and we must learn it to love
