Do y'all find that breaD SEEMS STALE WHEN U FIRST BUY IT & OPEN IT. i DO ALL THE TIME & IT TICKS ME OFF. I bought a loaf of potato bread sat. It is one of my favorites. When i opened it u would have thought it was days old. Whatever happened to the good fresh bread we use to get?? The price of a loaf of bread is ridiculous like everything else is & i would love for it to be fresh when i get it. I think all bread is that way now. Do u have this problem w/bread.

Our bakery here has fresh bread around 11 every morning. By then we would have already had our breakfast. This bread is kept in the fridge and then steamed the next morning. It ibecomes as good as new when I steam it.

Companies have consolidated and this means there are less bakeries around the countries. So the bread is shipped and is atleast a day old before it reaches the stores. I would check in your area and see if there is a bakery locally and call them to see if you can pick up bread so it is fresh. THis may mean picking it up early a.m. or late night depending on when they do their baking.

Well, that's a bugger. Have you though of making your own? You get frozen dough or make yours from scratch. And you could invest in a bread maker too. Makes for delicious bread.

That is probably one of the main reasons I am now so picky with the bread that we are always buying and even the cheap bread anymore is outrageous. I find going to the Bread outlet places to be the better deal for freshness usually as well as price. We can get Franz bread 5/$5 and we freeze some of it until we are ready to use it as well.

Yes in fact it just happened today. I took it back tot he store and told them I wanted a fresh loaf. The lady behind the counter looked at me like I was crazy at first but I made her open the packages and feel the bread. Turned out that the bakery delivery man had put WIC stickers over the expiration date which had been three days before and put it out. They have a double money back guarantee so I got bread and my money back at least.

I don't bother to buy store bread much. As you say the prices are out of sight for them (and the cost of them to make it is around 37.5 cents). I will treat myself to 12 grain bread with sunflower seeds in it. The bakery that made the best loaves of it is nowhere to be found now. I started doing something a bit different with my bread to keep it reasonably fresh, I freeze the loaf in the freezer above the fridge...then when I need a couple of slices I take them out and "nuke" them for about 10 seconds for my sandwiches. If I want French toast I will use the white bread that I have stashed in the freezer, but again at the price of a loaf of bread I don't buy that very often. Plus I also will make my own bread since I can make it for a lot less and there is nothing in this world more yummy smelling than a loaf of fresh bread baking!!! Before I started bringing my bread home and immediately freezing it, the bread would mold in less than 36 hours! Since I am highly allergic to mold, I can't use any bread or other food if it has the littlest bit of mold on it. So I had the choice of finding a different way to keep the bread or keep wasting the money. The freezer won!

Wow, I've never really had that problem..at least not that I recall. I know if you go to a bakery I would imagine the bread is much fresher than store bought, but I always buy the store bought bread. Maybe it depends on where you buy it? I know the bakeries usually have it still warm from their ovens..yummy. My daugher had a bread machine and that bread was delicious and she really didn't have much to do. She just put the ingredients in, the machine did the rest as far as kneading and then it went into the oven. That was delicious bread!

Good morning!Potato bread is good I do like it too but I eat mostly wholewheat bread and there is only one brand that I trust...it's Gardenia. Other wholewheat bread do not taste and smell as good as that of Gardenia. This is the number one brand in the country. I don't really mind if this is more expensive than the other brands. Gardenia is always freshly baked and it does really taste and smell fresh and better than any other.I'm glad we can still buy freshly baked bread in the market otherwise, I'd just bake my own.

We haven't had that problem since moving back to this region. We buy our bread from local bakeries--never from the supermarket. Since coming to this area, we have access to good places for bread, so I have gotten my boyfriend out of the habit of buying bread from the supermarket.

No thank goodness. Here in Puerto Rico bread is big here and its made fresh everyday at the bakery or even at some supermarkets. They also store it in a bin keeping it warm. Its the best and it goes for about 2 dollars a loaf which is not so bad. Even though I remember living in New York and buying a loaf of Italian bread for $1.29 - $1.50; it has been over 5 years and everything has gone up in that period of time. What I really want to do is learn to make my own bread I think that would be fun.

No I haven't had that big of a problem with it, perhaps it's time to change the store you find it in it might be their delivery is just not that dependable anymore. I wouldn't shop there and find someplace where they could offer fresh bread. I have even bought bread in the dollar stores and it has never been stale. Sometimes when I get it home it will go stale quick but only cause the house is too warm in the summer usually. Or if we don't consume it fast enough. Then it goes to the birds.

Thanks for responding. We don't have alot of choice here where we buy things like bread etc.T here is just one regular supermarket, wal-mart & 2 dollor stores & then some convenice stores which i don't buy from because they are so expensive.Have a good one.

Fresh bread is a problem in Trinidad too. There are just a very few places I buy bread from and the worst is the supermarket where they sell manufactured bread like what you make in a factory. It is like dry paper. You need to find a small bakery where the owner is a better person than so many others.

Sounds like you didn't grab from the right shelf. When the bread people deliver (usually its a few days a week), they rotate the stock. So the newer bread will be on a lower shelf or behind the front loaves. Some brands use different codes so you can tell which is the older batch or different color twist ties. The best way to ensure fresh bread is to just buy from the bakery in the store.

Thanks for responding. There is not a bakery in the store to make bread. All the bakery things they make is doughnuts etc.I know how the people deliver bread. Worked in a convenience store for years. The only day the bread people don't deliver here is on wed.

I agree! This has been happening a lot for me too lately. If the bread is not stale, it is already starting to mold because of the humid weather. I'm always looking it over closely, but still find it hard to tell what it will be like until I get it home. Sometimes you can find a 1-800 number on the bag and can call the company to complain. I've done that for other products. There could be a problem with the product or the way it is shipped that they could look into and fix. If nothing else, they may send you a refund. OR, they could send you a coupon..... for more stale bread! LOL!

Not so far anti our bread seems ok I buy wrapped bread called kingsmill. The price of bread has doubled in the last year.we pay £1.20 a loaf now it was about 70pence last year.Shocking price so we eat the crust as well now.we used to throw it out for the birds not anymore.I would be very upset if my bread was stale ,check the sell by dates.

Go first thing in the morning. Ask for bread that is right out of the oven. This will help you avoid the problem of bread not being fresh.

When we were in the USA recently we found that all the bread we bought everywhere we went felt and taste stale. I was told by an Aussie living there that it is just like that there and you cannot get soft fresh bread like you can get here in Australia. We were buying it for our kids to eat and they did not like any of it. We did not want to have to buy expensive food for them while travelling and they are normally happy eating sandwiches here, but not in the USA they weren't. Seemed bizarre to me!

I think that's the problem with packed breads. They usually display it for how many days. There's nothing better than the straight from the bakery breads though the price is ridiculous at least you have your money's worth.
