Quite a challenge

A man called Michael Hodson wanted to go on a challenging train trip taking one month. In that time he traveled by train all the way from Lisbon in Portugal to Siagon in Vietnam. That was more than 15,000 miles journey all by train. He did it it with two friends. They managed to raise money for a charity. Which is the longest distance you have traveled overland? Would you get bored on a months journey by rail do you think? Which long train journey would you like to go on?

It was interesting to hear about his trip from Lisbon to Saigon. I haven't heard about anyone else who has travelled that far by train. I have only travelled by train in Europe and I think that the longest distance was my trip from Denmark to Greece. That took 3 days and I was very happy when I finally arrived in Greece late at night. I was ill and exhausted when I got to Greece and I didn't enjoy the trip much. If I hadn't been ill I think that I would have enjoyed the trip a lot more. I don't think that I would get bored if I had to travel by train for one month. I would enjoy the view from the window and I would bring plenty of books and magazines. I would also bring a notebook where I could write about my thoughts and experiences. I would like to travel all the way from Moscow to Vladivostok on the transsiberian railway. I would fly to St Petersburg and explore that city at first and then I would catch a train or a bus from St Petersburg to Moscow and start my train journey across Russia. I hope that I will manage to travel on the transsiberian railway one day, but I want to improve my Russian first so that I would be able to talk to the locals that I meet

Thanks for your excellent response. I think it was very unfortunate that you had the flu on your train trip to Southern Europe. On the trans Siberian Railway hot water is provided so it would be convenient for making hot drinks and cup soups. You might need an e book reader instead of loads of books and a few magazines. Yes, a net book on board is a very good idea. Russian seems like a very challenging language and it is lovely you want to improve your knowledge of that language before planning that kind of trip.

The longest distance I have traveled is from Seoul Korea to Fiji Islands. It was about 14hrs in the air. I did not get bored because one Fijian lady was returning from Germany and i was returning from India. She was in my neighbor seat and she was full of stories from Germany and I told her stories from India. and there was a cute kid next to us and we had lots of fun. On the other hand, I have not been on a train yet so I don't know how it feels. have a wonderful day.

That must have been a delightful journey on the plane from South Korea to Fiji. I believe when chatting to friendly people on a plane the time seems to pass quicker. I hope that one day you will travel on a train and have a very happy time. Have a lovely day.

I have driven from Washington state to Texas, not all in one trip, but in stages. When I was a child we once drove from Austin to New Jersey and another time we drove from Austin to the Grand Canyon up to Salt Lake City and then down to Oklahoma City - actually Norman OK. Then finally back to Austin stopping at 6 Flags in Arlington TX - it was pretty new back then.

That is quite a journey. I would love to travel the whole length of Europe by train and into Asia. I would want to be able to get off fairly regularly though and explore different cities. The longest train journey that I have done was from Melbourne no Murwillumbah in Northern New South Wales. I was travelling the the Gold Coast but the train lines do not go that far these days due to corrupt politicians with ties to trucking companies tearing up the lines years ago. That was a 24 hour trip with a stopover in Sydney for an hour or so where we had to change trains.

my largest pleasure is to enjoy the process in the road to destination. if i can travel by train,i won't by plane.because in the train,we can know many various persons, and we can chatted happily.and this is one reasons i like to travel.
