Why have a pet that you are going to give up?

I really do not understand people. To me a pet is a commitment for life. You work with them through the tough times - like potty training - and you are there for them when they are sick. I do not understand people who adopt an animal that they know will not respond good to training, act shocked when they act up or out, and return them to the shelter. Or - even worse in my opinion - have a pet for years then decide that its too much work or they have to many health issues and bring the pet to a shelter. I can understand some situations. I had a friend who had a baby, their dog was okay with the kid until he started walking and then the dog would separate himself from the family. They were worried that he was depressed, tried helping him, but he really loved being with their neighbors so the neighbors took him. Love your animals. Do not abandon them and break their hearts by leaving them behind because it is inconvenient for you. /rant over

I know it's horrible how people treat animals. You don't see people often going and giving up their own child because they are too much trouble or costing them too much. It always happens after Christmas too when people will get a new pet and they decide they don't want it or when they grow and aren't as cute anymore

Easter is another time when this happens alot. I had not noticed other places I lived, but where we are now at Easter so many rabbits and baby chicks were being sold. Made me versy sick because even if a family takes excellent care of a baby chick, the majority of them die It's one thing if you have a farm or acreage, a place for them to roam, but just in a teeny backyard with a ton of predators around, poor things don't have a chance.

Yeah it is tough. I got 2 chicks once when I was young and they roamed the backyard but we built them a coop to be protected from cats. When I came home from school I noticed one was gone and then the other. I was so upset, my mum told be they had flown away. I found out years later my stupid deadbeat of a dad came over and killed them. I also have no doubt my grandmother let him do it as she never liked having animals. I wasn't allowed to have a cat or a dog or anything and the one time I got to have pets they do this to me

I also find it hard to understand people who give up their pets. Of course there are some exceptions like a situation where a couple split up have to move to an apartment where pets aren't allowed. In my country it is extremely difficult to find a rented apartment where pets are allowed and I understand why some people are forced to give up their pets, but I don't understand people who give up their pets simply because they get tired of them. I would never do that. My pets are a part of my family and I don't ever want to give them up.
