Festivals - A Time To Celebrate

India

Festival is a time when despite the busy schedule of daily life, people spare some moments and spend time together, share joy and happiness and cherish the memories of past. Festivals give us an opportunity of having a get together, to laugh together and to enjoy together. Yesterday was an auspicious Indian Religious festival of Raksha Bandhan. I enjoyed this day by tying Rakhi to my brother and dad. We had Rajasthani sweet and snacks. In the evening, my brother and I were sitting together, I suggested him to play Ludo. He agreed and we began plying Ludo. It was so much. We were playing with the same childish enthusiasm. Screaming on our victory and laughing on each other's defeat. It was one of our favorite childhood pastime during summer vacations. Do you ever play childhood games with your siblings and refresh your memories of past days.

Well you had a brother to tie Rakhi at least.I am not so fortunate enough to have a sister but only a brother who is almost like me in most regards,i.e-LAZY! But no regrets since we all say in the pledge-ALL INDIANS ARE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS.In that that regard I have millions and millions of sisters, leaving a few........I mean like my mother and teahers!!!

@Shine10Mathew - It is not just real sisters who can tie you rakhi. Also, your cousin sisters or bua could tie that. @Shivendra01 - You are right. A girl can tie rakhi to any man she considers as her brother, who can protect her and help her in every situation. @Shine10Mathew - Well friend, Rakhi is a thread that a girl ties to someone she sees as her brother or the one who takes care of her as his sister. It cannot be tied to a lover or a life partner.

Yo man,you should probably get a rakhi tied on your wrist by your "CRUSH" after all you love and care about her ,DON'T YOU? For you she may be the same, but for her you may be just a brother now and nothing more!

After reading this, I want to say: I admire you so much. I'm a quiet person. so most of the time , even during the festivals, I always like being quiet. But after I became a mum, I changed a lot for my daughter. Because little child don't like being quiet. By the way, what's "ludo"? Can you tell me? Thank you.

Wow! So your daughter is your motivation for being active, busy and lively. That's great. Well Ludo is a board game for two to four players, in which the players race their four tokens from start to finish according to the dice rolls. It is known by different names in different countries.

to be honest, I do not really play with my siblings simply because they are way older than me. Both my siblings are already on their 30s. This why they do not really play anymore. But despite the wide age gap, we still enjoy the festivities together :) happy mylotting.

I have also turned 31, but still I enjoy playing such indoor games. When my nephew and niece come here for summer vacations, we play cards, carrom and ludo. It is a real fun seriously.

I enjoy playing childhood games even now. If my health condition wouldn't have been this bad, I am sure I would have been playing outdoor games as well.

Rakhi is undoubtedly one of the most popular cultural festivals in India. It is an occasion that speaks of the undying love between a brother and a sister. Raksha bandhan is a promise to protect and cherish forever the sacred bond that symbolises this relationship. This is one of those rare ancient cultural occasions that does not limit the rituals to a brother and a sister. You need not be a related by blood or family to tie a rakhi and do pooja on Rakshabandhan.

Very well said, this festival is not just confined to brothers and sisters by blood. As we choose our friends, likewise sometimes we also choose to make somebody our brother or sister. Such relationship is also equally sacred and pious.

Hello Sagayamary, It's true that festivals are now crossing the state boundaries and are becoming equally common in every part of the country. Certainly we all should pray for the wellness of our family, friends, near and dear ones. Take care!

Hi Inderjeet... My sister has been tying Rakhee on my wrist from our earlier days and this time i have missed that. My sister has given birth a baby for which she cant be associated with any religious activities for one month. Yes we played a lot in our childhood like ludo, badminton, chess and many more.... sis cried when i defeated her later i gave her chances to win. Have a nice time.

Oh Yes! I have seen your sister's baby's pic on facebook. Hope they both are doing fine. Oh never mind... the precious gift that you have received this year is more valuable than any other thing. Next year again your sister will tie you rakhi. Oh ho! So you were a sweet brother. My brother would never let me win just like that. I had to pull my socks and give him a tough competition, whether it would be ludo, badminton, cards or video games.

I think everywhere in India, people celebrate festivals with their family, friends and life partners. The true essence of festival comes when we celebrate it with our loved ones. How do you celebrate Rakhsha Bandhan in South India?

I too wish for get together like you mentioned. And as you said festivals are the right most occasion. I am in my initial college years and miss such times. It helps me know the importance of family and friends. I like being the part of festivals where each of my family members are engaged. Everyone is happy and you cannot find a better moment than finding your loved ones happy. I really cherish my past memories and the time I spent when I was a kid. But then I am preparing myself for future and hopefully I will get returns of these hardship.

Hello Gautam, When we are away from our family, we understand its true importance. I had seen the hostelers in my school and college, how they would miss being with their family especially during festivals. I am sure your hard work will bear fruits and surely you will have a bright future.

My sister also tied me a rahkhi.. Even after my busy sechudle in evening i took her to shop and ask her to buy what ever she wants.. I am able to see her a lot of smile and happiness in her face. That happiness shows why in india we all celebrating this type of festival.. i feel every day must be festival so that all of us will be united and be happy:-) how many of you wishing every day want to festival like me?

Oh! That was really sweet of you to take your sister for shopping. My brother also asks me what gift I would want for Rakhi and for my birthday. I always tell him to buy me whatever he likes. He mostly gets a salwar suit for me. Giving and receiving gifts add a special charm to the festival. Well, your idea of celebrating festive mood everyday is very nice, but I personally think that if everyday would be a festival, then festivals will soon loose its charm. Only because festivals come once in a year, we feel enthusiastic and excited to celebrate them.
