Today I read about a new food festival in my country. It is going to take place in August and it is called "Restaurant day" On this day everyone can open their own restaurant for one day and they invite people to open the kind of the restaurant that they have always dreamed about. You can place your restaurant wherever you want: In your home, in your car, in a park, on the sidewalk etc and they invite people to donate the money that they earn to charity but it is your own choice. It will be interesting to see which unusual restaurants that people are going to create. I have to work and I will not participate, but I would like to see the restaurants that other people make.
What you think about the idea? Which food would you cook if you were going to open your own restaurant for one day? How would you decorate your restaurant? How would you attract customers?

I look forward to seeing the different food that people are going to offer. I hope that many people from my island are going to participate in the food festival. I am not going to open a restaurant, but I am would like to see which kind of food that other people are going to serve.
Hi Ravi! Yes, on that day everyone can start a restaurant. There are no rules. You can create your restaurant anywhere you choose and you can serve any kind of food. I have thought about the thing that you mention about the hygiene. I wonder if there if there will be any kind of control and if the people behind the festival will check if the restaurants are clean. I imagine that there will be no control, and I hope that we won't get ill from eating the food.

I hope that many people on my island will be interested in participating. I will definately visit the food festival on that day and taste some of the food. I will write an update about the arrangement when I have been there (later in August)

Honestly if I was in another country whom may not have one particular type of cuisine I would try to create dishes from that cuisine and offer them as dishes one can purchase. That way they can enjoy a new food they may not have had before, or may not have had much of before.
I may also go to a local salvation shop and buy say ten or fifeteen dishes and serve the food on those dishes, allowing the customer to take them home but say charging 25 cents (in USD) more to keep them.
That would help with the charity aspect of it.

I think that it is a great idea to create dishes from a different cuisine. It is always interesting to eat a kind of that food you haven't had the chance to eat before. When I visit a new country I always try to find some of the food that isn't available in my own country because I love to eat new kinds of dishes. I am not sure what kind of food I would choose if I was going to participate in that restaurant day, but I wouldn't choose the local food from my country, because I prefer the food from the Asia or other countries around the world.

It's an interesting idea. It would actually be a fun thing to do within my own community, and I think that a lot of people in this area would be inclined to participate in something such as that. Hmm... I think that I may actually have to see if I can help make that happen. My boyfriend and I know some of the right people, and we are both interested in community-building. So...

I also think that it an interesting idea. As far as I know it is very new idea in my country and this year the Restaurant day will take place for the first time. I don't really know what to expect, but I look forward to seeing the restaurants that people create and the food that they choose to serve. Maybe people in your community would find it interesting as well and be willing to participate if a simalar things is arranged in your area.

Porco, this type of food festival is really very interesting. So far, my area here don't have this type of food festival. Have you visit and taste one by one of those food that being displayed? How about the price of those food? Are they going to sell them much expensive than the ordinary days? How do they decorate their restaurant? I haven't got the idea as how to open my own restaurant yet. But, if i was going to open one in future, i think i will cook my local delicacies, to serve my customers.

Hi Porcospino
This is one news that I loved to read - you can open up your own restaurant for one day.
-I could get a chance to cook for others
We have that kind of things here in India too but it is not a part of any special day or anything. Normally, when we stay in colonies (like an apartment complex - a place where many apartments are in one campus) - families get together and organize such fests - the days are decided by the participating families and then, the people who cook sell the food at make-shift stalls kind of thing. My dad stays in one soch campus and they have this special fest day sometime in December during the X-Mas holidays. Last year I wanted to participate as the seller but the cold weather triggered my arthritis and I could not. I have recommended to have it sometime during oct-nov this year and hope they would agree

In California, we have some places that do this, but you usually have to pay for it, and it can be expensive. The restaurants involved usually have great food as well, but if you cannot afford it, then it wouldn't be worth it to go.
