I looked into my veggie garden yesterday and noticed some of my rounder eggplants are turning a yellow color. I took one off that hasn't had alot of yellow color on it like the others but you can still see how it is starting that way. They're not mushy or anything, just changing to this wierd color. I had a summer where the cucumbers turned orange one year. What do you suppose this is from? Would you still eat these yellowing veggies or throw them away into the compost? They're just not appetizing to me, they're supposed to be light purple and white. I attached a photo of the yellowed eggplant.

I have seen like that happen to my eggplant but I have not got a reason for that. I think is grows too much than it becomes like that because when I cut across it, the seeds are become hard an so I concluded that is becoming ripe. Did you cut it? I have never made any dish out of yellow eggplant. It is too hard to be cooked. I like the soft ones and spongy ones with soft seeds. good day to you.

Will turn your face yellow (hahaha)
You remind me of a friend who wants to have a glowing skin and heard that carrot juice can make her face rosy.
So what she did is, she drinks carrot juice everyday- 5 glasses a day.
Too bad she turned yellow all over due to over drinking of beta-carotene :p

It looks like the newer variety of egg plant that has come out. There is one that turns yellow. I can't remember the name of it right now, but you may have gotten the seeds by mistake...or when the bees were pollinating the flowers they might have brought a pollen from that particular variety and cross pollinated your egg plants. They are perfectly healthy to eat, they just are a different color. I'll see if I can find the name of the egg plant that looks like that. I tried to grow them without much luck as my soil is very poor and nothing wants to grow in it.

Well, I don't think that is it cause I did take one off a few weeks ago and it was the right color, with no yellowing. So that is why it's confusing me, it's not really getting too much water as far as I know and that only usually makes the leaves turn yellow anyways. I wonder if it cross pollinated again with another veggie, but most of the veggies in the garden are green if not all of them. No yellow squash or anything.

I'm trying to think of the word for what has possibly happened. Ah yes, it may be a hybrid of the normal veggie. It certainly looks very, very healthy. I've tried cooking eggplant once and it was awful so it's not something I'm terribly familiar with.
Someone offered me a cucumber last year and it was a new colour but I cannot remember if it was orange.

It is probably cross pollinated but can't for the life of me think of why it did it and with how as I don't have any yellow veggies in the garden here. I like to cook eggplant, it always comes out pretty good when I do. Maybe you just need more practice with it?

This is probably caused from the heat. Do you have a agricultural annex there? I would call them. They would be more apt to know what the problem is. Or if it is normal or a problem. They are very knowledgeable and when my ex and I had a garden with grew a mixture cantaloupe and cucumber. They found it very interesting.

I never thought of that celtic. I don't know what that agricultural annex is or what they do. I will do some research and try to find out though. Did your cucumbers and canteloupe get mixed up in colour as well? What did they say about it? We don't have anything yellow growing with the other garden things this year.

The agriculture annex is here to help with garden pests and they have all kinds of information on plants and can help you identify plants and such. All kinds of information they are able to help with. They told us they hadn't seen a mix like this. it was a lovely green color and the orange of the cantaloupe. Looks more like a squash with alot more innerds than usual and lots of seeds.

This kind of eggplant is common here in our place.
But I am not sure from what variety of color it belongs- such as white/green or violet one.
Mostly the white with green rounder eggplant shows yellow stripes and doesn't looks odd here in our place.
The violet rounder eggplant sometimes shows white stripes too.
Try to cut one and see if there's wrong inside-rotten or mushy.
But if it looks good, then I guess there's nothing wrong

It belongs to a voilet/white kind of variety with no normal yellow colour in it. That was why I found it to be odd. I did cut this one open and it was white inside with normal looking flesh and seeds. Nothing mushy at all. I couldn't eat it though, as I don't know what the other colour means.
