Raw corn in the cob

My doctor wanted me to eat raw sweet corn for a week, at first because you know most of my life,I eat corn as steamed and piping hot.My parents raised me to eat corn being cooked and then splattered with butter. At first I was so devasted to make my first bite, as I never ate raw corn before.the moment I make my first bite, its actually not bad at all. Its succulent and very sweet. I think raw corn can work in salads and smoothies. Its not the most delicious thing ever but its palatable, I think its a vegetable eating experience people can try.

Raw? Why did he say to do that? I'm curious. I have never had it raw, and thought it always had to be cooked. I have heard of people using corn in puddings, and other desserts, creamed corn soups and such. More so than they used to but raw not yet. I would try it though.

Wow I have never heard of eating corn raw. But yes foods do lose a lot of their nutritional benefits when they are cooked. It seems like it would have that much flavor but maybe if you add melted butter to it if you are able to maybe that would make it taste better. When we eat it we boil the corn on the cop and then cover it in butter and eat it. So yummy. My daughter loves it. I will have to make it for dinner for her when I get to walmart to get some more corn.

The only corn you can eat raw are sweet corn and Blue corn, the other types are risky to eat. so dont try it with maize and white corn.

Wow, now thats something I have not heard of before. I didnt think that you could eat raw corn. I always thought that it would be hard to chew, get stuck in your teeth. Seems like something that you need to chew for a long time. It has a taste also, I would think that it wouldnt. I guess thats great that you have found a new thing to eat. I really dont think that I will eat corn raw though. Thanks for sharing.

I think this only works for sweet corn and blue corn. Blue corn juice is very popular juice drink in mexico. the other types of corn and maize, would be impossible to eat raw.

Raw as in no cooking what so ever? I think I may have had it like that once or twice but it's harder to chew. Not sure. I like corn on the cob slathered in butter, it's delicious that way. Sorry you have to eat it raw but atleast it's not so bad for you.

Yes, the sweet corn on the cob is very tasty. Its the slop they grow for the cows to eat and then try ot pawn off on us that I can't stand. And why does a doctor want you to ingest that much starch in a week? Raw? I eat it raw out of the garden all the time. I wonder what it has that is so great.

I have never tried it but it makes sense. If I was going to eat raw corn I think the best time would be eating as soon it is picked. The fresher it is I would imagine the sweeter and more moist it would be. I love raw green beans. I think they taste best right off the vine. I don't know if they are ok to eat that way but I always enjoy a few like that before I cook them. Happy munching!

Raw sweet corn is delicious personally, I prefer sweet corn uncooked. Just tastes better that way. I can't even stomach cooked corn with butter and salt.

We used to pick the small sucker ears and eat them raw. They're really good and much sweeter than full ears of corn, even it it's field corn. Raw corn is better for you than cooked, like most vegetables.

What is the health benefit of eating raw sweet corn? Why did your doctor tell you to eat that? Do you have any health issues? We are not used and we don't even know we can eat corns raw. If it would give us health benefits then why not? Kindly share what your doctor told you about raw corn. Thanks!

Well, it's sweet corn anyway. If it wasn't sweet corn, the kernels would just be too hard and you'd end up losing your teeth. I actually tried eating raw corn and just one kernel wasn't easy to chew down.

the enzymes that got killed when it got cooked, I am not a raw vegan though, but I have to cleanse because of a certain health problem. I will go back to steamed buttered corn oncemy health is fixed though.

I don't know if I have ever eaten raw corn in anything. I can't imagine doing that unless it was very fresh and soft. Why did the doctor want you to have it raw?

It has something to do with my surgery. It has enzymes my body needed. Its hard to explain the taste when its raw but its very juicy and sweet.

That is really interesting. I have suspected for some time now that humans really shouldn't eat corn, but maybe it is because cooking it does something to this enzyme and makes it harder to digest.

sweet corn and baby corn are the easiest to digest I think, based on experience,

Just like with you, I grew up eating corn on the cob straight after it had been cooked and then slathered with butter and some salt and it always tasted so very good to me. But, when I was pregnant with my son we went to the farmer's market and one of the farmer's was trying to get us to try his corn so that we would buy it and he was shucking an ear right there and handing it to people. It was so very delicious and from that point on I got to the point that I started to actually crave raw corn on the cob.

I managed to find many ways to enjoy corn raw, I tried mix them in salads and I also tried juicing them. Anyway sorry for my late response, i was not active in the last few days. In Mexico they juice blue corn and its one of their most popular drinks I think. After the fasting my doctor forced me, I steamed corn with lobster. Surf and turf.

I already tried eating raw corn kernel but few peices only. You are right that these can be also used in salads and smoothies. May I ask why your doctor recommends you to eat raw corn kernel?

Interesting. How does fasting get rid of the itch? Is it a complete fast?
• Philippines

That was really interesting. I haven't knew that eating raw corn can reduce itching. All I know is to stop eating eating foods derived from chicken (including eggs) and fishes, both freshwater and saltwater fishes.

I looked at some comments at a glance. You did not mention whether you have certain sickness or something wrong with your function. It may be privacy issue, which you are entitled to keep. Still, I would be curious about a specific part that makes your doctor recommending you to eat raw corn. I know that you have refer people to look for its benefits.

lets say its something I need to keep for my self. Lets say i tried a raw vegetable cleansing, I hate lettuce without Mayo so I was given a non lettuce option and corn is one of them.
