My cousins from Holland just visited us here in Southern California. They brought lots of special and yummy food that we can't find over here. Or it's very expensive if we do happen to stumble upon it at a craft fair or specialty store. Anyway, I received about five bags of double salted licorice, some of it sprinkled and sticky with sugar. It's my favorite. What strange candy have you eaten and what is it made of?

Yours sounds interesting. I like licorice so I would be willing to try it. I haven't had many different kinds of candy that aren't normal or common. The only one that I can think of - it was from Mexico. A different spiced candy than cinammon and it was okay. It wasn't my favorite candy but I didn't mind to try it.

I've tried some Mexican candy. Not bad. If you ever come across the salted Dutch licorice I hope you try it. It's pretty fabulous.

I know that stuff. It's pretty good!!! Danish candy is similar to Dutch candy. Some time ago some people we knew went to Mexico and bought us some Jalapeno Pepper flavoured candy. That was very interesting! :)

I have made red pepper jelly with red bell peppers and jalapenos and I have added jalapenos to my home made cooked whole cranberry sauce. Both are quite good.

The inside of my mouth already hurts. Sounds like I need a lot of water.

Woew ... Jalapeno Pepper flavored candy??? I'm not sure if I would be brave enough to try that. And it would make sense that Danish candy would be similar to the Dutch. I love Danish pastries.

"doubled salted licorice"? As in coating licorice with salt? That sounds easy to make, but I don't think it sounds good, especially since I don't like licorice in the first place. I guess the most weird candy is horehound candy. It isn't real common, but I can find it at a reasonable price, but my husband hates it and rarely buys it. Here is a link, I usually purchase the second item locally..http://search.acandystore.com/search?keywords=horehound+candy&gclid=CJOumfKL7LECFcZrKgodDVkAvA

No, the licorice is actually very salty, there's no salty coating. Sometimes they coat it with sugar. It's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. I tried the link but my browser wouldn't go there. Just the name alone, horehound candy, sounds very dangerous.

When I was teaching I had a child who was Chinese. His parents where immigrants and for a holiday one year they brought me candied crabs. Each crab was about the size of a thumb nail and they where glazed in a hard candy type shell. The wee little things still had their shells on and where kinda cute. I of coarse couldn't be rude and tried one and to my surprise they where quite tasty.

Wow, shell and all? Interesting. I must say I have never heard of candied crabs. Was it homemade or something we can go buy in a Chinese supermarket or something? I'm always up for new things and I do love crabs.

The closest market to our home does not carry them but many of the ones by my mother in NJ do. I think they just have a larger market for that type of ethnic cuisine.

Wow I have never heard of double salted licorice. I'm a simple person and don't really take chances on candy that sound strange and weird. But I should. I wanna try to make coconut no bake candy which would turn out weird or so says hubs but I think they are already out there. In white chocolate.

I love coconut, so if there's a coconut no-bake candy I would definitely try it. And in white chocolate??? I'll be looking for that recipe.

I have read a lot about salted caramel lately, and I might be inclined to try that. I do not normally care for licorice. I think the strangest candy I ever had was over fifty years ago. It was cactus candy. I do not remember much About it, just that my uncle broght it to grandma, after he had been on some kind of trip. I am tempted to say a cattle drive, but I am not that old.
