Grease My Musical Experience

I'm sure everyone has heard of the film Grease, its known worldwide and surely has to be one of the best musicals and films of all time. A few years ago when I was at 6th form (college) they were putting on a production and it was decided that is was going to be Grease. Loving the film and doing abit of singing myself I was definetly going to audition and a number of my friends did too. I was a little skeptical about which part I might get since the only singing I do is with my band which is Punk alot different and my dancing experience was very limited but I got the auditon script and went did Danny Zukos lines and the Summer Nights song. I was delighted when I got cast as the lead role. The dates were announced and in 2 months time we would be doing 8 shows over 4 days all of which sold out (250 capacity) so that was nerve racking. What was magical about the whole thing though is that many of us had no acting experience whatsoever, basically we took a bunch of people and turned it into a very high quality production in 2 months. The whole thing is an experience I will never forget and for that reason Greae has a special place in my life. Anyone else had a similar experiece?

Hi Freeman.. You just brought back very fond memories from my High School years (in another lifetime. Hehehe)... Our High School did a three day production of "Grease" way back in the 1990's... It was our high school play for that year. The teachers who were setting up the show took it as an after school activity. Since I could not commit my after school hours for it, I became part of the backstage crew - the people who set up the scenes by placing props, accessories etc on the stage after every Act or Scene. It was a learning experience by itself. My sister was acting in the play. She was assaying the role of Mrs. Lynch - you remember the cranky teacher with a "British" accent?? My sister had the exact accent & did justice to the role of Mrs. Lynch very well. So, she was immediately asked to come on board. It was a learning experience by itself.. I can never forget it... :)

Well I'm very happy to have brough back some very happy memories :) As much as it is a shame you could not commit to a part, without backstage crew then you have no production, or a very badly run one! I wish I would have took more notice of the people with such roles as they really do a good job. I agree the experience is an amazing one, I was lucky enough to do one the year after, Joseph but it wasn't as magical as Grease was. I do remember the Mrs Lynch character, for whatever reason our Mrs Lynch had an American accent like the rest of the characters, I'm in the UK so we all had to do American Accents which were really bad at first lol.

My local high school did this musical and I helped back stage. There is no question there was so much to do getting everything ready. I went to a small high school, so everyone did something to help.
