Did you ever had a dissection when you are still a student? I did it last Friday we dissected a frog, since it was my first time to dissect a frog I have no any idea what is the feeling when dissecting. We dead frog with formalin but even it has formalin the frog is still have noxious odors, even I worn my mask I can still smell its bad odor! huhu, I enjoyed it but I didn't eat lunch afterwards! haha It was gross but memorable because it was my first time, And next meeting will have dissection again but this time the frog is alive. Guys! Which do you think is easy to dissect frog the preserve one or live? Happy Mylotting Friends! :) (sorry for my English)

hi, i did, it was a very good experience for me, i was very excited, when i did it for the first time, dissecting a preserve one is easy, than live one, because, live one moves, and it wont be stable, and also pinning the live is difficult, formalin , oh my, huhu i too dont like the smell of that, even after leaving the lab , still we can feel the smell till the evening or the next day, cant have lunch , but as time goes on it becomes normal..have a good day ahead.

Yes, I had to dissect a frog in science class but we worked with partners. I let my partner do all the cutting. I still remember the smell of that formeldahyde. I can't believe you are dissecting live frogs. I would think that would be considered mistreatment of animals. Good luch in your studies.

I was homeschooled, but one time some other homeschooled friends got a cow heart. My dad is a nurse so he got out some scalpals and had us dissect the cow heart. I don't remember any lessons from that day. It was so long ago! However not so very long ago I had to go to a cadaver lab for college and had to look at human body parts. It bothered me so much to be there. I broke down crying just thinking that these people were all someone's loved one at one point in time. Of course I had just lost my brother 6 months before so it was probably just bad timeing for me.

When I was in high school, I didn't have the opportunity to do a dissection when I was taking biology one. However, I did opt to take anatomy when I was a junior and we got to dissect cats that year. It was really interesting to me and didn't bother me at all because at that point in time I had not realized that I was a cat person. Now if I had to do it, it would be a lot more difficult for me because I do have pet cats. Now in college, I had the opportunity to operate on live rats and that was really something interesting. We castrated them one week and they were supposed to stay alive for a week (which ours did). The following week we had to euthanize the castrated rats and uncastrated rats so that we could observe the differences in their bodies as a result of castration.

Frog is used because it's structure like organs, muscles and bones are similar to humans, if you are in a medical course better get started getting used to the smell of formalin, Does your course have comparative anatomy? I won't tell you what other different things you will be dissecting there, it's a surprise, it will prepare you if ever you decide to continue to med proper in human anatomy. Good luck on your studies

we have had several discussions like this while i were a student and i have seen several biological students finding it hard to dissect a live one since it jumps and leaps in the air.but a preserved one is treated with some substance like green powder and he behaves well,so it will be scientifically easy for us to dissect and have a look at the anatomy

I know this comes in the zoology section of studies. I have never dissected a live frog but i have seen other students doing it in the zoology lab. I just pass by without peeping into what they are doing. I have seen live frogs in my native place and in my colony. The ones in my colony are very big. People in some countries eat frogs but i do not like to eat these reptiles other than normal food. Be careful when you dissect a live frog, it should not jump on you or escape away.

Hello my friend RSantos026 Ji, Well, I being non-science student during school days, never had a chance, but my hubby had such experiences, and after first time, he left Biology and took PCM, I remember, once he was to carry out dog-shooting as per his turn in our Military area, after shooting first and last dog, he never took food for two / three days and even today, he is haunted by feeling why at all he shot taht poor guy. We are pure Vegetarian without garlic and onions. May God bless You and have a great time

Not only did we dissect frog, we were even the ones who tried to catch them to have them dissected. It's hard to catch one so we paid the kids who loves catching frogs do it. Anyway, we did it to study it's muscle and bones. We have to learn it's names. Boy, was it too hard to memorize all of it with the muscles almost always look alike as well as the bones. We soaked it in formalin as well which was very hurtful to the eyes. I believe it hard to dissect one that has been preserved already because of the formalin. The fresh ones has a bad smell but we could take it with the use of a mask.

Every student who opts for Zoology as a subject has to do it as practical.

I remember my time when I dissected a frog. it was when I was in highschool. I really pitied the frog :( I was the one chosen by the teacher to inject the sleeping medicine to the frog so it would stay still and sleep. I really pitied the frogs. It kept moving while I was injecting it. We were instructed to cut their organs. :( Our group felt really sad for the frog so we decided not to cut its organs. Little did we know that if you didnt cut the organs, the frog will still be alive and it will die slowly because it has been dissected. When we threw the frog in the garbage bin, it started to jump around with all of its organs hanging around. It was a pretty disgusting sight! I think I would like to dissect a preserved frog. But my best option is that the schools should take out the dissecting project once and for all! hahaha

We didn't have to do a frog, we did a fetal pig. It was really gross. The pig stank and I couldn't focus on what we were supposed to be doing.

I haven't had that experience, thank goodness! My mom told me that she had dissected a frog though when she was in college. She said the easy way to do it was to pour boiling water on the frog and the rest would come easy. I could just imagine the smell of formalin and stuff. I don't like medical stuff and science that much

I had to dissect a frog in biology my freshman year of high school. Then, in my junior year I took an anatomy class and we dissected all sorts of things. We did a sheep eyeball, a heart I think, and a few other things that I can't remember. The last dissection we did was a cat. That was really nasty. The first day we did it it wasn't so bad but then class ended and we had to put our cats back in the bag. When we came back the next day to continue our dissection the cats really started to smell because the embalming fluids had been drained from the bag since we used them the previous day. I remember I almost threw up because of the awful smell and having to dissect it.

That was our first subject in the afternoon during my high school days, biology. I remembered I was not able to eat my dinner after that. That is also the reason why I had not taken any medical related course.

I also did it in college. I don't like the smell too but we had to do it. There's always a first time for everything. Just wait till you dissect a cat, you will not eat for days. lol. :)
