Unnecessary Holidays...Or Holidays you Think Should be Created..

So I know this will be a wide open discussion based on how different countries operate differently, this is what will make the discussion interesting to follow. Here in Canada we have a holiday called "Family Day", it takes place in February and in my opinion it's not really a necessary holiday. I think I would enjoy it a lot more if it was during the summer months when families are out and about more often doing fun things, as February is usually very cold and dull here in Canada. Are there any holidays in your country that you find unnecessary? What about a holiday you feel should be started? If so, for what reason? Thanks for sharing.

According to your discussions, it seems many people if not most in Canada might feel the same as you if the holiday was given during the summer to let them have more fun with their families. There are many other types of holidays in my country which are mostly related to mark a special occasion and etc.

Pretty much any Holiday that isn't Christmas, Halloween, or Thanksgving is unnecessary. Like, President's day, Colombus day, etc. Why are they there?

i think Family day is there during the working months so that it's another way for people to get time off from work so they can be with their family. Of course, it's time away from work, and if you're needing the work, then that wouldn't help. The Philippines comes up with a lot of holidays, mostly related to cities and towns, or something related to a hero. I'm pretty fine with the holidays that we have since the previous president had a way of moving holidays next to the weekends to give us longer weekends.

i love holidays specially if its non-working holidays. you get to spend time with your family and still gets paid. i don't like valentine's day because you still have to go to work even if it's a holiday. anyway, today is Ninoy Aquino day in the philippines.

I guess all holidays are necessary since these are declared by our President. It may not be necessary to us citizens but for the public as a whole, I guess these holidays are created as commemoration of certain events which we citizens may or may not celebrate.

We also have that kind of holiday in our country but it is a working holiday. As far as our country is concerned I can not see any thing as unnecessary holiday.

No holiday is unnecessary to me as long as people get teh day off work If anything my country needs more holidays. We have quite a few during the first 6 months of the year and then we hardly have any for the next 6 months. I think I should demand one called "BabyCheetah Day" because I like baby cheetahs Or it would be nice to have a public holiday to do with animals or animal awareness that would be cool

Well the most ridiculous holiday ever is "Valentine's day". First of all its on the same day and named after the "Valentine's massacre". That in itself should be taken off the calendar. But even after that its the most ridiculous thing in the world. Its all for money and it DOES generate probably the most money than all of the holidays but ugh! I for one don't need a day to spend with the one I love. I love them all the time. And I hate all the hearts and fake looking love symbols... but I'm sure a lot of people like this holiday and probably were proposed to on Valentine's day etcetera.
