I had made a lunch for yesterday for work; I went and did my mystery shops. I didnt think it would take that long but it took a few hours (the items were out of the fridge). It takes 25 minutes to get to the town then was about 40 minute in the shop, then went and did the other. It had meat, and veggies in it, and it was really hot that day. I threw the container of food out. I didnt want to eat it being out in the heat that long. Me personally I get sick from any fod thats a little off. So I didnt want to take the risk since I work basically everyday and cant afford to miss days. My parents, and my friend were giving me slack about wasting food. Now one I paid for the food, two Im not taking the risk of being sick no matter how expensive it cost me to buy the food.

I am with you on this. I have a sensitive system and get sick very easily. I would rather throw out food that might be bad than risk jeporadizing my health in any way.

People who don't know the whole circumstance should just shut up! Ok, I can understand wasting food . . . but it's not wasting if it's for the sake of not getting sick! And then you get the domino effect . . . you pay for it with your pain, then you can't work or do anything else, and then you waste those days just trying to get better. Why go through all that? If they think it's wasting - then let's see them eat it - ha ha!

No way would I have eaten that. I'm really careful about food being left out and no thank you, do not want to get sick. Maybe next time give it to them to eat and let them puke their guts out all day. They should have stayed out of this one, especially since you paid for it anyways. Why do people do that, I'll never understand. They would really prefer to take the chance?..ugh and yuk.

This is just one of those times when I would have said "If you want to eat it you go find it and get it out of the garbage". I've had people tell me I shouldn't throw MY OWN food out, and I just ignore them. They didn't pay for it so they can't tell me what to do with my food. I've not told the person themselves, but have told others "If they want to dictate what I do with my food, they can pay me for what I spent, but then and only then will I listen." I don't blame you for throwing it out, if it's not kept cold someway or another it can be dangerous.

I can't afford to get sick as well, so I am pretty careful with the food I eat/ It's okay to throw those food away instead of eating them 'cause it might have cost you a lot more if you did and ended up getting food poisoning. In my case though, I do tend to be very mindful of the food I eat and the places where I eat. I just couldn't risk being sick and after seeing a few people getting hospitalized for eating bad food and acquiring some illnesses that are food related, I have already learned my lesson from them especially since getting hospitalized would cost a lot more than I could have ever imagined.

You shouldn't eat food that has been sitting too long under unusual temperature. Bacteria builds up during, hot and moist conditions. Better be safe than sorry. Stay healthy!

I agree, better be safe than sorry. I just ignored them and their comments, I would be the one paying for it.

You shouldn't let your family and friends get under your skin that way. I have to admit that I would have done the same thing that you did. When I was working outside the house and I would take some lunch with me, I would never leave it in the car where the changes in temperature could really have an impact on the quality of the food. Now, if they would have choosen to eat the food, that is their issue, but you did what was best for you.

The only thing you could have done was put it in a small cooler type of thing t keep it fresh but I realize we all don't have those handy either. So sometimes it happens although we don't want to, we throw away some food in order to not risk getting sick or whatever. I sould have thrown it out too, as the slightest thing wrong with some foods could mean I get ill. I even resort to taking a capful of apple cider vinegar in some water before I know I'm going to eat at a party, or if I think some food might be spoiled (or not) and can't get anything else to eat as that helps the stomach if something goes wrong. My mom was bugging me the other day about the plums I got from Costco, nagging me about wasting them and I better eat them, etc etc. and she doesn't just say it, she says it like I were 3 years old as if she's speaking to a child. Now at my age I think I would know not to waste food like that on purpose,. and besides you should should see all the food she and my brother throws out. I don't get it. It's OK for her and him to o this and then if I just do this one time or so I get the brunt of the reprimanding here. It's just so wierd with them I want to scream. I just threw out a half container of strawberries with mold as high as the top of the container cause my brother told me to save that one for him and he wanted to make a smoothie. So I did and he used some of the strawberries leaving the rest to go to waste. Then there was a good portion of a watermelon the other week. I throw out green peppers alot, tomatoes, bananas that get too brown and so forth so why the heck would she waste energy speaking to me like a little kid about wasting something I rarely waste, unless it can't be helped. I did finish the whole container without throwing any away. My dad might have ate 2 of them cause I asked him if he would help me eat them and he said yes. I just don't get my family. What am I- their scape goat to take everything out on, sheesh. If I would have told her that they throw out food too it would have ended up in a huge argument over it and I just wasn't in the mood so I left the room, rather than fight with a double standard kind of person with a control issue. Unbelievable. Why would anyone want to talk to a 49 year old person that way--- daughter or not???

I wouldn't consider this wasting food; you were taking health precautions. I've had food poison before (I am going to make a guess that you have as well), and it is AWFUL. Why take the risk of getting sick? If it was me, I would have thrown it out...and just be careful about it the next time. I also would have looked diplomatically at my parents and friend and said...you want to take care of me while I get sick? LOL!!!
