Do you really think that the future of test cricket is in danger? Or is it a temporary phase, and in future we will see more turnout at the test venues?

Oh certainly not. Future of test cricket is not on danger and will never be considering the elegance of this format. It is this format in the sports where one needs to perform to get credits and reach a level of respect. Even the players who flourish in shorter formats speak about their dream of getting well into test cricket. With the 5 days of play, test cricket tests the sporting spirit, endurance and many more of a qualities player. In fact it is also our duty not to let test cricket go down if at all it is happening so.

However, keeping interest level high for 5 days at times could be tough. Some good, close matches can evoke more interest among spectators. Thanks for responding.

Yes test cricket is at times boring when someone can be sure shot that no result will be produced at the end of the day. But fast cricket misses many links which I think is given to us only by the very test cricket. It is a sport and what will take it through is our interest. If we just give up watching it thinking it would be boring, that will be unfair.

I actually think that Test Cricket is now becoming more popular. Now that the tests are beginning to get results the matches are becoming more and more interesting. Of course, when the teams are not evenly matched then the match becomes one sided and bit boring. But when teams such as South Africa, England, Australia, India play each other the matches are keenly competed and interesting to watch. The recent South Africa - England series was outstanding. Cheers! Ram

Yes, some of the series have had some very closely contested and tightly fought matches which evoke better interest.

Hi friend, test cricket is facing some drawbacks now, but surely it will come back with a new energy, once up on a time lot of cricket fans are interested in watching test matches, but now are living in fast world and people don't have enough time to watch test matches and prefer 20/20 matches, so it is facing some difficulties

I feel that there should be some limit on overall number of matches in each format of cricket, so that spectators do not become bored faster. Else, we would lose interest in all formats quickly, if too many matches are being played.

Nice question. I believe that if not totally scrapped, but number of tests played will surely be very low. I also think that days are coming, where you'll see a tour consisting of only ODIs & T20s. Once there was discussion on making the ODIs of 40 overs and Sachin suggested to make 2 innings of 25 overs, but not to reduce the overs. Although these discussions didn't remain for long and washed out. But this makes us think. It further shows the threat on test matches. Hayden recently quoted that, "Every batsmen love T20. When you ask them they'll say the test, but deep down they like T20." If a great batsman like him says this, there exists a definite danger on the future of test cricket. We can only predict and assume, whatever the ICC decides its final. No one knows for sure that which way the ICC will swing. So till the final verdict, lets just enjoy test. Test cricket, is a true test of players, umpires, match officials, spectators and every stakeholder. So before it becomes a thing of the past, lets just watch as many games as we can. Very nice discussion you have started though. Good day!

I think one way of making test cricket more lively could be to reduce the playing hours for a test match, say by one hour. Or, suppose, if a test match is heading for a dull draw till its 4th day, limit the number of overs for both sides, and make it a kind of one day match. May be some rule changes will help it.

No its not in danger as you can see we have got many test series to see.Like England-South Africa,India-NZ and many more. So, by seeing this your doubt must be clear that test cricket is not in danger.

May be, some of the media reports are over-hyped, and begin to cause alarm about Test cricket.

Yes, we are cricket crazy. During matches, many of us who work on computer systems, keep a track of the scorecards.

I think test cricket is going down because it's not played much and people are getting more interested to t20 and ODI's. I don't even watch test match any more, I only go for the highlights. I think in over a period of 10 years it could be predicted if test match will go on and if ICC introduce day and night test match it might change ....

Hi, In olden days there is only test cricket. People used to love test cricket. But after introduction of one day matches people started to love one day cricket. Tehy are more excited because we get the result in one day only. Now T20 is more fast game. These matches are more exciting. So test cricket is not in danger but fans fo test cricket is reduced. Test cricket is important for only making records.
