Right from my childhood since i was the youngster one no one was compelling to do any specific work. I was totally illiterate as far as cooking is concerned. I was not able to make a tea too for myself. Everything was handled by my mother and sisters. I remember, when i was 25, my parents were to come from journey and they don't eat outside food. My sisters were not with me since they were at their home after marriage and i was all alone at home. So i dared to cook something for them. I asked aunty who stays next to us. She was so happy to explain me thoroughly a simple dish. Accordingly i have prepared a Dal rice, cucumber and potato vegetable and served this all after a hot tea with biscuits to my parents after their arrival. They were so happy and surprised to know that it was my preparation and fortunately everything was fine and tasty enough. It was my first experience of cooking and i realized that noo work is impossible unless and until doing it honestly.

You are so much better than my sister in cooking. She does not know a single thing about cooking, even as simple as making steam rice using a rice cooker. Our mom blames herself sometimes for not putting enough force to my sister to learn basic things when she was younger. But I think it is more about my sister's attitude of not wanting to learn. As you said, nothing is impossible if one has enough will to do so.

Hi, Your sister does not willing to cook. There are many girls or women who don't like to cook. But when they start cooking they may become expert in cooking. You can understand this as I am the example of this. So your sister will learn to learn to cook and can cook very well. Don't worry.

That's what we think when she was younger... She's now married with teenage sons and it's kind of embarassing sometimes that she does not have any clue about cooking. Even her sons are better; at least they can now prepare food for themselves. Fortunately, her husband is not a picky eater. He's very easy going and also takes care of his own food; in a way, his attitude does not really compel my sister to learn either...

Hi, My wife is taking tuition of some students. She has a student named Pooja. We have taken all the responsibility of her food and education. She is very nice girl. My wife has difficulty in walking because she is suffering from the muscular disease Myopathy. Pooja helps her in cooking. Sometimes I also cook and give some rest to both of them .Both become happy when I help them.

Cooking is such a gift. It comes from the heart and soothes the soul. I can always rely on a good meal to make me and loved ones feel better. I have been cooking now more than ever, and it gives me such great feelings of joy. It is something that is a pleasure to learn and do. Who does not eat? It would be absolutely beneficial for someone to discover his or her cooking skills. I have so many wonderful memories of cooking at home as a kid, and I am making more as an adult.

Hi, I don't have memories of cooking in my childhood. Because I don't have to cook in my childhood. I don't have any interest in cooking. Because I have two elder sisters so my mother has two daughters to help her. So I didn't have to help her in the kitchen. Thank you for the response.

HI Roshigo, Thanks for the response, yes that is nice own cooked food is ambrosia to us even it is not good. This is the tendency of the people, just like a piece of paper from mother's house is more value than the gold from mother-in-law's home. I am not pointing out this thing, though the food cooked by us is best for us,have a nice day.

Cooking as well as other chores can be learned. If we have not done a chore yet, we think that it is difficult. Doing everything for the first time is really exciting.

The first experience that I ever had with cooking was not nearly as good as the one that you had. I had decided one weekend that I was going to make breakfast in bed for my parents. I wanted to make them scrambled eggs and biscuits. Well, the biscuits came from a canister, so that part of it was easy. The eggs, on the other hand, were a disaster. I had put the cheese in them before I put the eggs in and that caused to cheese to melt and burn to the skillet. My siblings still make fun of me about that despite the fact that it was over 20 years ago that the egg incident happened.

Whenever my wife would go her fathers house I would stay at home alone and I had to cook something for myself. I would try to prepare any easy dish but would mess up very often. I could not balance salt. I could not have any taste from what I would cook myself and I would have what my wife would prepare. Usually cooker loses its appetite while cooking. I think kitchen is quite a science laboratory where all highly educated (specialy in food and nutrion) people should enter. No awkward should not enter the kitchen. I, myself have not achieved any mastery over cooking though. I would like to ask if if so happens that you added salt a little bit more that is supposed to be or you added salt a little bit later then what change of taste will be brought abought? Surely this misperformances will change in the originality of taste. I feel tn say and make you listen that three things are badly necessary in a kitchen room. *attention *sense of ratio of the quantities of ingredients *sense of timing *an experience kitchen assistant Wish you learn cooking yourseld. Its quite an art as well.

Hi friend, good to know about your first cooking experience. Now i share my cooking experiences with you.Once my father mother and other family members went to a function. At that time i have an exam, so i am unable to go with them. On that day i come home at the noon time after finishing my exam. But my mother don't make any food for me, as she don't have time to prepare food for me. I prepared some food for me, it was the first time which i started cooking. Till today i remember the incident. I am not a great cook, but i am very much interested in cooking and know a little bit about cooking.I am interested in cooking healthy foods. Healthy foods always gives a good health to us with good taste to our tongue. Most of the time i like to eat salads, fruit juices. I always try my maximum to avoid oily foods, they are not good to our health. I like to use some herbs in my cooking, i use ginger, garlic and some other good items in my food at week ends, it will clear unwanted things from our stomach and give freeness to ourselves. I am interested in self cooking and i will cook food in the week ends. I know cooking very well and enjoy it a lot. I have the ability to cook food by my own with out the help of my wife, as i know cooking better than my wife. Some times i am getting bored with my wife's food and ready to cook by my own. My wife and kids will enjoy my food a lot and like to eat it a lot. My wife is a great fan of noodles, i will cook noodles with a great taste, every week end i will prepare noodles for her sake, some times if i am bored with my online activities and want some break from online, i will go to my kitchen and prepare some new recipes. Cooking is a great art, which have the ability to give lot of fun and pleasure to us as well as food is very essential for our life, so we must know about cooking, it will help us whenever needed. Cooking is an art which needs a lot of concentration, if we focus our full concentration in the food while cooking and do our activity with interest, surely our recipe will be liked by every one, even the person whoever hate some ingredient in the food also enjoy the food, if it is prepared in a good manner. Anything which is done with our full interest will give a good result to us.

I have a lot of experience in cooking and it started when I was very young. No body forced me to cook food but it eventually happened over a period of time that I found great interest in cooking. Firstly I started by preparing Maggi noodles for myself and my younger brother. At that time I was in 6th standard I guess. My mother and father both are working and my mother was unable to return on time that day so I tried with this. I still remember that day how I was making very conscious efforts to make everything fine. I searched for a pair of scissors first to cut open the packet as I was not known about the things related to kitchen. Then I struggled and very precariously I boiled noodles and prepared. After complete preparation I smelled my work and my mouth started watering. I believe everyone likes their own food no matter how well it is prepared and tastes. So noodles were well cooked but some vegetables were not as I have cut some really big pieces of them lol!! It was liked by my brother as well but I felt sorry as we could not have saved for my mother and father to taste my work. Later on I tried with many dishes but all were non-regular, I mean to say those were only special dishes or side dishes or snacks not regular meal. I tried french cuisine and chinese cuisine. Later on while I was away from my home and was working I started preparing myself complete regular food comprises of pulses, rice, chapattis etc. I really find interest in cooking as I get more time to explore myself and to know myself better and to experiment new, different things. Though I am not a good cook rather a lazy one as I only cook when I am in a mood to cook otherwise for a person like me outside restaurants are good place to eat sometimes. Thanks for making me remember some wonderful experiences of my life.

Mushroom with Beef - Doing the cooking for the first time is a very challenging job.
It is always good to be knowledgeable in the area of cooking. If alone and nobody can cook for you, it would be quite costly to eat out all the the time. You don't really need to be an expert but at the very least you should know the basics. You can't always rely on your Mom or your sister or maid or your spouse to do this for you because even if you are living with them there would be times you'd be compelled to it for one reason or another. When I was single, I did not know how to cook either. It was Mom who was doing the cooking and if not my eldest sister. However I'd always find time to watch whenever they cook and that gave me some kind of learning. So when I got married, I was never really ignorant of the task. Of course watching and doing it yourself are two different things. But if you do just how you've watched them do the cooking, at least you have the right idea on how to have it done right. You know what when I cooked my first dish and served it to my husband. It was a mushroom with beef recipe. I was really so proud when he liked it and praised my cooking

That's a great story. I believe all men and women for that matter should know basic things like cooking and cleaning for themselves. One never knows in life what will happen and it is a wise person that is prepared for any and most life changes. One can marry and the spouse gets sick, who would take care of the home until the partner is able. A person could be forced to live alone because of a job change or being away at school. That is just 2 examples of why a person should learn to be self-sufficient.

good day roshigo58, its nice to hear what you have been experienced. and it is true that no work is impossible especially if you are determined to do it. hence, if your determination is high, for sure, the impossible will turn possible. as i have read your post, i can feel that you are determine to learn the process of cooking. as a result, you were able to prepare a meal for your parents. hence, that is the start of a great learning. and perhaps, you can try another dish next time. just be determined and be patient as well.

Well, there is a sentence about this, saying: "We are not born all teachers, but we could becomes." In your case, it is obvious that you have not learned to cook until the age of 25, because you had your dear mother that made you find already all set. Then came the time where you had to somehow arrange, and, from what you've described, it seems to me that you do that. Since then, little by little I think you have learned how to cook other dishes. I, too, said frankly, are not very good in the kitchen (you know I am a man), however something I can cook, a dish of all, the classic Italian spaghetti. However, if this is any consolation, I too, I still have my mother makes me eat the ready on the plate all days!
