As most of you know we are leaving for Asia in two months and we are both looking forward to the trip, but there is one problem - my husband is very worried about the flight between Europe and Asia.
He has travelled on a plane before and he is determined to do again. He doesn't want to cancel the trip, but he has started to get very worried about it.
He is afraid that the plane is going to crash. Are any of you afraid of flying and what have do done to overcome the fear? Do you have any advice for my husband in this situation?

This would be a great trip and your husband knows that the flight is the only way to get there. Maybe it's useless to remind him that car crashes happens more often and it's really more dangerous to travel on the road. Maybe you should keep him busy and not give him time to think about the flight. I like the planes and the fact that you cover huge distances in little time. Only once I almost panicked in a plane - after some fortune-teller has told me that it was better to travel by car.

Yes, he knows that it is neccesary to fly if we want to visit Asia. It would be much too time consuming to travel through Russia and China by train, so flying is the only realistic option. It is true that car crashes happen more often than plane crashes and when you think about the number of people who travel by plane every day withour problems a plane crash doesn't seem like a big risk compared to other kinds of accidents, but I am not sure that I will be able to reassure him that way, because he still thinks that it isn't safe to travel by plane. I hope that I can keep him bsuy so that he doesn't have too much time to worry about the flight.

Hey all the best for your forthcoming trip. Well initially i had this fear of flights but then i soon started thinking about our trip and my fear vanished in seconds. Make him feel comfortable inside the flight by keeping him busy by asking him certain questions. This is the best thing u can do with him. Ask him to use the headphones and watch a movie that will keep him engaged. What say?

Thank you. I am happy to hear that you were able to get rid of your fear. It sounds like a good idea to help him find something else to focus on and I will talk to him during the flight and try keep his mind off his fear. I also hope that we will be able to see watch a movie that my husband likes, because he loves movie very much so that would help him focus on something different.

I am sorry to hear that your husband is scared of flying. I would suggest taking him to an airport to the viewing point where you and your husband could watch the planes taking off or landing. You could show him some videos of safe trips by plane and talk about the details.
My drive my car and know some cars do crash. I just have to be as careful as I can. Therefore I put my trust in the pilot and feel confident that he will get the plane safely to its destination. I know pilots do ever such a lot of flying and have much flying experience.
I suggest you show your husband lots of things about the Asian countries you will be traveling to. Your husband could try relaxation techniques to calm his nerves.

Porco, hope both of you will enjoy the first trip to Asia. But firstly, you should try to calm your husband down, to have a wonderful trip to Asia. Try mentioned to him about the beauty of Asian countries and your wonderful plans while in those countries. Let his mind do all the wonderful planning as well. I always mentioned that way to my hubby when he is panicking. So, when his mind start to do the planning, i am sure you won't hear any complaining anymore from him. By the way, everyone of us do have our share of scare to fly for the first time. Even both me and my hubby do had this same feeling when we first fly to a nearby island for a holiday. Have a nice trip, friend...

Flying is the most comfortable way for long distance travel. Accidents can happen to all types of transportation may it be land, water or air. I still do have fears in riding any of these for I already experienced a vehicular accident once which almost cost my life for i have to undergo two major operations to survive. Since then, i was not able to overcome my fears while on board any form of transport. But the joy of seeing other places help me set aside this fear and my best remedy is prayers. i pray while traveling asking the Lord to bring us safely to our destination and prayers drive away my fears and help me enjoy the trip most of the time.

Wow Europe to Asia how long is the flight. If your husband drinks I suggest a stiff drink that will help him snooze at least halfway. Also some snacks are a good way to distract you from being in the air. Its a good thing you'll be their to console him. I sympathize with your hubby. I took my fourth flight a week ago and I remember the flight tilting midair and I couldn't wait until the plane resumed its normal position, sigh...

Hi Porcospino,
But mostly while on traveling either it may be day or bus what ever the travel mode bus/train, I am chanting the name of Guru and thinking that he saves me from accidents. Even at nights also I am chanting the same name also running in my mouth regularly, but I have not fear to travel when traveled first time in the first time on the flight. Have a nice day.

Hi porcospino..
I dont find anyway to overcome such a fear. Just you need to convince him that there are many persons and planes as well and crash happens very less.
Well, Asia. India is also belonged to Asia. Any plane to visit India?
Have a nice time.

Not really, since i have flown in a plane a lot of times and there is rarely a plane crash on the news. Has he watched the Final Destination movie? That movie must have scared lots of people who ride planes.. But i read somewhere that a plane crashing is not that possible, since it's regularly checked.

Hi,
I haven't been to faraway places that requires travel by plane. With the recent spate of plane accidents in our place, right now, I feel quite uncomfortable riding in one, if ever I have the chance.
In perspective, plane travel nowadays are relatively safe, especially commercial flights. Rigid regulations are in place to warrant the safety of the riding public that it is more safe than sitting down in one's living room.
Personally, I would prefer the more leisurely way of traveling by sea, on a cruise ship or some respectable shipping lines around, with on board amenities like restaurants, private sleeping cabins/bathrooms, entertainment bars and the like. That is, if time allows it, no hurry and arriving at the destination with lots of time to spare.
