I am joining the ranks of the traveling lecturers on the topic of MyLot

I hate to do it, but I see people that I know from another site on here, and they are posting as if they are there. I see potential deleted discussions. One of my referrals from that site quit, because the rules were different, so here goes my lecture. All of us keep reminding people to read the guidelines, and one I see violated a lot is the very last one in the don't list: (don't)Start discussions promoting a milestone, such as birthdays, anniversaries, reaching a certain myLot rating, etc. This is best celebrated via private messaging with your myLot friends. However, you can post about your achievement or milestone if there is something to discuss. Like "How did you celebrate your birthday?" "I went to the local restaurant for mine." Everyone can talk about their own birthday. If you just said "It's my birthday!" people can only say "Happy Birthday" or maybe "how old are you?" and another one that gets violated a lot says: (don't) start discussions dealing with an individual issue with MyLot. Use the contact us link. "I am so mad, I am leaving this stupid site. They deleted my discussion because I was talking about the four footed furry friend that has a mask that my uncle had. All I did was use the shortened name for that animal." (I did loose a discussion or a post over this) Contact with the contact us link or send a private message to GoAskAlice, explaining the situation. also, something that my friends have been bothered by is our censor. If we use certain words the system just will not post. Do not get mad about this. It is a way of avoiding some things that are politically incorrect. I know the system cannot differentiate between me talking about a masked four footed animal that washes his food, in a shortened form (raccoon) and using a racial slur by using that same shortened form. It cannot even realize that I am talking about a friend who lives in a town in Minnesota. C00n Rapids. I also got censored talking about someone or something who had water on their backs. . .not realizing I was using a term about people who came to my country by swimming. A term used as a slur. Guys, MyLot is fun. If you lose posts over violating the guidelines, it is not fun.I have lost posts or been unable to post certain content in the past. Do not let errors like this chase you away, just remember this site has different guidelines and rules from other sites you may be active on and you can still have a terrific time.

I like this place way better than Gather. I guess since you can post what's your favorite color over there they might expect that here. Although you may be talking about another place.

Nope, that is the other place. I have a friend or two posting the last few days that I am afraid to answer as some of the things are milestones. Ed was a great referral but got mad at the censorship and losing some discussions. I try to warn people, and I specifically wanted to warn someone who has just posted that she will make her first cash out. Not sure, but to me, that is a milestone post. I am making some helpful and supportive friends on Gather, but I still never know what really gets me points. I still like some other sites, but I always prefer MyLot.

Thank you for posting this. I had a discussion that was deleted because of being "Adult Themed." I will leave that up to your imagination. I was referring to a post about COOKING BUT, the censor didn't take it the way that I meant it to be taken.

I know, but that particular thing seems to have changed. I even used the offending word, I think. That white meat part of the turkey.

You didn't!!! RFLOL. Everyone can use a reminder about these topics. Personally I like the censor because I'd rather not see certain kinds of language on a family site. However the innocent name of a delightful children's book happens to include a popular first name for boys that some miscreants also use as a "dirty" word, so even I get hung up by the censor now and then. Back when it was not against the guidelines to discuss recipes, the censor got me for an alternate name we used to use for vegetable broth and I couldn't for the life of me understand why that was not an acceptable phrase, but just about every term can be paraphrased. I think people need to lighten up about the deleted discussions even though sometimes things are deleted when we think they shouldn't be or in one case NOT deleted when we think they ought to be, because nobody said myLot had to pay anything and we all learn a lot here and have fun here and it really isn't supposed to be all about getting paid.

That is the whole point. I love it here, and sometimes I lose a point or two but it is easily made up. I am tired tonight, and I am not catching the vegetable broth reference. You can still post recipes, just not as the entire discussion. There was a member once who copied and pasted recipes, with no commentary. I told her it was against guidelines, she said "Well everyone likes my recipes." She went on to post thirty "discussions in less than thirty minutes and they nailed her. Deleted her account as well, I guess. I have never seen her back. I do have places that I can go and put up a picture of anything and a recipe for anything, but it just is not so much fun or organized as MyLot is. And it is not international, either. That is one of the biggest charms for me, being able to have friends around the world.

hi gardengerty thats the big charm of mylot for me too as Im partly physicallky handicapped and also have not m uch money so I can travel'and make friends all over via my fingers on the'keyboard. last night my carpal tunnel sydrome kicked in after my son left and my right hand was completely numb but it returned to normal shortly.my doctor had checked me to be sure it was not some blood flow restriction and then pressed on a spot on my wrist and my right hand went to sleep at once,. so he knew then I w as okay as long as I stop typing for awhile occasionally,.lol.,I truly do value all my friends from all over and have learned so much from them too.

Hi, Hatley! Good to see you here. Gertie, the reference was to "pot liquor" which is what we called vegetable broth, as it is what is left in the pot after the chunks have been strained out. Let's see if it is still a forbidden phrase.

D,i.C.k is looked at as a slur for male anatomy lol,.i hope everyone reads your discussion and remembers it, good for you GG.

I did this to entice some of my friends to come play as well. Lambie cannot do it all by himself. We all have to help him out.

Way to go GG! I think that every once in a while somebody needs to lift the torch up from the regular 'traveling lecturers' and educate the newbies. Or maybe even remind the 'veterans' of the things they might have forgotten.

It certainly gives us something to talk about. Veterans and newbies alike we need to pay attention or we will be losing posts.

I've been here also for many years and I always been like a newbie when Im posting a new discussion still Im searching and aware of my topic might deleted for violation. Im just been careful not to loose any part of my earnings.

I came in and found lots of notifications of other peoples' discussions being deleted. I sometimes just respond even if I think it might be deleted, just to have a word or two with the person so they do not get discouraged; Most of them were poll type questions. Those are so easy to post and easy to answer. I do not mind sometimes losing a point or two if we all have fun

what a wonderful discussion here. i can tell you have a diplomatic way with people now thats how you explain things. by the way, ive had a few deleted over dumb things i said etc. i think we all do it now and then. but if a person truely loves mylot, they get it. they continue to post no matter and soon catch on to all they may not have took time to read lol. as my late hubby used to say when people would ask him, how he knew how to fix almost anything and everything, he'd say by trial and error. when i lived on the farm, times we didnt have and couldnt afford some things, so we had to learn how to do things another way. lol!! sorry for the long post. ive been raceing on about things lately to keep my mind busy.

Yes, myLot is a fun site. If one reads the rules, it should be pretty clear what is and isn't allowed on here. I would also have to say that how one earns on here is a lot clearer than on some other sites. I have different sites to meet my different moods and different needs. However, I do find myself spending a lot more time on myLot recently.

i have several of my discussions posted too...as mylot said it was too much lol but then it did not dissuade me to stop using mylot as i enjoy it here and i love the people who are here too.. so yes let us not be discourage just because of one deleted post.. or one error.. or too many glitches..as well it is just like life, we receive those ups and downs yet it is up to us how to get over it and stand up again right?

All of us make mistakes from time to time. Earlier this week I responded to some that got deleted after all. I am not sorry I responded, however. I do not comment unless I want to engage in a conversation with the poster.

Great advice! I think that this place is a good place and it is due to some of these guidelines they have. I know that I am by no means ms. innocent but I don't think I would be here as much if there was a lot of profanity strewn throughout the discussions. Not to mention that there are a lot of people on here and if every time there was a birthday...well...that could be pretty aggravating after a while.

I don't know how many more comments you'll get on this, but as far as I'm concerned this is a must read not only for newbies, but also for everyone else. Just from reading a few of the post today seems like a lot of people that have been here for awhile need reminders on the rules. It far as I'm concerned it's not that hard. If you have a doubt whether you can post it or not go back and read the rules, if you don't feel like doing that then don't post it. My father in law used to say "When in doubt throw it out." he was talking about food at the time but I have taken that saying and used it and still use it today for just about anything. Great post GardenGerty

I am not always the best judge of whether or not a discussion will stay, but I do not want people to be disappointed if they very blatantly post things that will be deleted. It was good for me to go back and read guidelines and frequently asked questions and I should do that even more often.

Hello, GG. I never belonged to any writing sites before mylot. When I joined I read all the guidelines and try to abide by them. But I've never started any discussions, either. So, in joining mylot I learned from the best. All the seniors that posted do's and don'ts were very helpful. But I notice that in these types of discussions the responders are mostly seniors or people who've been around a while. The newbies, who should be reading these things are elsewhere posting things they shouldn't be. That's my .02

I think that one can be TOO politically correct though. If you think about it, nearly everything is offensive to someone else, somewhere in the world. It also gets frustrating at times, having to figure out ways to get around it (like you did). Seeing discussions that don't really encourage further commenting (ie, It's my birthday today!") are frustrating. I knew of at least one member who would write a story about her day-and leave you wondering if she was just venting, or if she expected people to answer back. I can only take someone's whining about their life for so long before I want to rip my eyes out! But sometimes, if you're bright, you can find a way to draw them out, taking a discussion that didn't appear to have any potential, and make something great. As for racial slurs-we really don't hear too many these days. I can't even remember anyone using the two you mentioned in at least 10 years. And I can think of a number that ARE allowed here, but I'll refrain from saying more.
