My husband and I are going to spend two days in Amsterdam in November. We are from Denmark, but it is cheaper for us to fly from Amsterdam to Bangkok. Originally we were just going to spend half a day in Amsterdam, but our flight was cancelled and we got tickets for the following day instead. We have decided to visit the Anne Frank museum while we are in Amsterdam, but aside from that we don't really have any plans. We don't have much money to spend so we probably won't be able to visit any other museums or places where you have to pay an entrance fee.
Have you been to Amsterdam? Which places did you visit? Can you recommend some free or cheap activities or places to visit in Amsterdam?

Hello Porcospino,
I myself are living in the Netherlands but honestly do not come in Amsterdam very often, I did though conduct a minor search and maybe you could find some more informations on this website. Atleast this is a free guide and some tips on what to do.

Thanks, that site looks interesting
I have bookmarked it and I will return later and read more about the different places. I have read a lot about the places that we are going to visit in Asia, but I didn't have much information about Amsterdam, because we weren't really supposed to spend much time there. We got an extra day there because we are going to fly to Asia one day later, and I look forward to exploring Amsterdam. I have been to the Netherlands before, but I was a child at that time and I don't really remember much from that trip.

I’m sure you will find some time to enjoy yourself here, on many places the Dutch culture is not much different from the Danish - after all, I‘m supposed to know since I'm Danish of native and have been living here in the Netherlands for the last 3½ years.
But maybe look on it as a bonus; you get an extra day for sightseeing in a country you didn’t plan for on your way to vacation. I also think November is a great month, mainly because most of the tourists may have left the country and you don’t get a 3hr queue to get into Anne Franks House…

Thank you
The Van Gogh museum sounds interesting, because I am very interested in art. I am going to find some information about the other places that you mentioned because I don't know them. A canal boat tour sounds really nice, I will suggest that. I think that my husband will like the idea, too. I have never been to Amsterdam before so I look forward to visiting the place in November. I have been to the Netherland many years ago when I was a child, but we didn't visit Amsterdam and I don't remember much from the trip because I was very young.

I am delighted that your flight plans to Bangkok are back on track. It is interesting to know long haul flight prices are cheaper in Amsterdam than in Copenhagen. I have visited Amsterdam when I was 17 years old with my friend. I found it sad but interesting in the Anne Frank Museum. We liked going on a boat down some of the canals. I visited Amsterdam a second time in my twenties and I enjoyed hiring bike, riding on a big wheel and visiting one of the art galleries. I was studying in the Netherlands for one semester. I loved doing a day trip to Delft which I thought was very pretty. I went to Corrie Ten Booms House and in a town in Haarlem. I would advise walks along the canals and a drink in a picturesque spot. You could sit in a park and have a small picnic. I know you will find Anne Franks House interesting but rather miserable due to what happened to her. If you see a free museum or art gallery you could visit it. It doesn't cost much to hire a bike for a few hours. Good luck.

I am so glad that we didn't just buy the plane tickets in Denmark, because it is a lot cheaper for us to fly from Amsterdam. We got some very cheap train tickets from Denmark to Amsterdam ($65 for two tickets) We bought the train tickets early so were got a large discount
I look forward to visiting Anne Franks House. I can imagine that it is sad experience and interesting as well. I read the book many years ago, and now I finally have the chance to visit her house. A picnic sounds like a great idea. I am sure that we can find a nice place. We could rent some bikes and visit some of the places in the area, that also sounds like a nice idea. We have two days so we have enough time to visit Anne Franks house and some of the other places as well.

Hi Porcospino,
It is very nice to hear that you and your husband is visiting Amsterdam for days, I think there is no direct flight from Copenhangen to Bangkok. so you have to change the flight at Amsterdam there you can spend two days, but I think you have to make your own arrangements to stay and visit places at Amsterdam. I have not visited Europe till now and I does not have any hope to visit Europe, have a nice day.

Hi Porco, November is around the corner and i am sure you are happy to be able to continue your traveling adventure to Asia for the first time. So far, i haven't been to Amsterdam but hope in future have the opportunity to travel there. Try to search and buy a map as a guide for you to get the chance to travel some nice and interesting places without the need to spend much money. That's what i always do, whenever i want to visit any new places, i would firstly search for their map in the town. When i get hold of the map, i am able to get to know many interesting places through it. Do take care well of your belongings while traveling in foreign countries. Have a nice traveling adventure...
