The Imelda Marcos jewelry collection has hit the headlines again. It was aired on the major TV net during the prime time news at six thirty in the evening. One could hold back the drool watching the intricate designs of the gold, silver, ruby, diamond and other precious metals, mostly necklaces and bracelets. Now who can say that the Philippines is a poor country? Why do people spend their miserable lives in dumps and on the streets almost living on nothing but false hopes and politicians promises. The jewelries could be worth of billions of dollars by today's standards. I can't help but wonder why? Why do they have these treasures and how do they acquire them? Do the money they used to buy them from their own pockets or from elsewhere? Where it should belong to? The 10,000 pairs of shoes and a whole department store of clothing pales in comparison to these extravagance, it also pales in comparison to the wretched condition of the subjects and slaves of King Philip of Spain.

I remember watching this in the news about a month ago... and i must agree that these jewelries should be exhibited for all to see... but i am against putting them in auction... i know they were acquired through corruption but we can make use of them by putting them in a museum... for sure people from all over the world would pay just to see these precious jewelries...

So it would pay more just to exhibit them there. Nice idea. Some people don't like to see the result of that regime, erasing the memories of the bitter days, for some who experienced it, I mean.

Beginning from Imelda and until now still the corruption still continue. Have you watch the news about our senate president give millions to senators as bonuses. Have you think that it was good? Where Mr. Enrile got that money, that money from the people. From us, avid tax payers. I am a businessman and sometimes I am thinking to stop doing business because of the taxes that collected from us. What the used of strict collections, is that for personal pockets only and we the businessman and employees suffering for paying our taxes to encourage government officials to hide the funds to their own pocket. That reason alot of people aspire to run for any position in our government because of rampant corruptions.

It is quite refreshing to know that Imelda Marcos is not just an avid shoes collecter, she is also a jewelry and precious stones lover, she does has variety of hobby and no doubt is a woman of unique taste. She must have acquired tremendous amount of wealth from her late husband Marcos living office and later wills while so many Filipino are finding food in the dump and living off the squatter land with hardly any sturdy roof on top of their head, I am sure you will have a hard time trying to find any shoes department store today to beat her shoes collection record, and to come out with a figure that reflect the value on all those gems and jewelry she has in her possession. Yes, it is true that she is living more like a queen of Phillippine instead of a wife of a former president in a nation. It is just hard to pinpoint exactly where is all these jewelry and gems come from and how she acquired them, during the long reign of Marcos in Phillippine, she could have possible get whatever she desire without any problem at all as the first lady of the country, it is merely a joke that she had spend her own trillion of dollar to acquire those jewelry make by precious stones and gems.

Thanks for the details, a friend in Davao had told me about this, she works in a pawn shop, and strangely her name is Imelda.
